New York Times Names Accra, 4th Of 46 Best Places In The World To Visit In 2013
Nigerians, Most Educated in the U.S.
J a n u a r y 2 0 1 2 Page 6
By Oral Ofori with credits to The New York Times and Karen Leigh
OK, there's no way I was going to let this slip by unnoticed by the world, especially by fellow believers in #TheAfricanDream and kinsmen from my native Ghana... so on January 11, 2013 The New York Times USA published its list of 46 best places to visit on earth in their travel section and yes, Ghana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana) came in fourth. The Brazilian Eastern State of Rio de Janeiro topped the list with the Mediterranean town of Marseille claiming the number two spot closely followed by the largest country in Cenrtal America resting at number four―Nicaragua. Did I say Ghana came in at number four? Well 'Accra, the capital of Ghana, has welcomed business travelers for years. Now tourists are streaming in, a byproduct of the fact that the country has Africa’s fastest-growing economy and is also one of its safest destinations. The Movenpick Ambassador Hotel: http://www.moevenpick-hotels.com/en/africa/ghana/accra/hotel-accra/overview/ (with poolside bar and waiters on roller skates) opened in 2011, and the Marriott Accra ― the chain’s first sub-Saharan offering ― will feature a casino and upscale shopping when it opens in the spring.' according to The NY Times. 'On Accra’s packed beaches, you’ll see everything from snake handlers to plantain peddlers. Head to the upscale neighborhood of Osu and hit the treehouse-inspired terrace at Buka for fine West African food. The best Ghanaian adventures start with a giant plate of tomato-smothered tilapia and banku ― a fermented yeast paste that’s tastier than it sounds ― washed down with local Star' beer as explained by Karen Leigh of The NY Times.
Up until the 6th of March 1957 (Ghana's independence day) the country of Ghana was called The Gold Coast and you can find out more about Ghana pertaining to travel here: http://wikitravel.org/en/Ghana Ghana is a West African nation with a southern coastline that borders on the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of about 21 million people. The capital city is Accra and the official language is English. This blog wouldn't be complete if I don't mention Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president who led the former Gold Coast to independence from British colonial rule in 1957. Prior to independence, The Gold Coast was a former slave trade hub that became a British colony in 1874. Ghana is the first British colony to become independent.
If you're my wife and you're reading this then you know where I'll be taking you very soon in my bid to escape the winters of northern America, and in order for me to not be too biased, I'll let you read for yourself about the remaining other countries that made The New York Times list of 46 best places to travel to in the year 2013 right here: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/01/10/travel/2013-placesto-go.html?hp
The Next time you hear Akwaaba, Fufu, Banku, Accra, Kente, Akosombo, The Gold Coast, Kumasi, Pesewa, Elmina Castle, Cape Coast, Kakum Park, Mole Park, The Village on Stilts of Nzulezu, Ashanti Gold Fields, Amedzofe, Yaa Asantewa; Queen Mother of Ejisu, Akosombo Dam, Bolgatanga Museum among many exciting others and not forgetting Ghana's first president Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, then you know I have Ghana on your mind as the struggle to realize #TheAfricanDream continues! If you have no knowledge of these places mentioned then consult Google or just visit Ghana, I insist.
Analysis of U.S. Census data and other surveys show Nigerian immigrants and their descendants score highest when it comes to earning degrees. By Naeesa Aziz
USA education, college, Nigerian immigrants, most educated in the United States Nigerian Americans have long been known for their community’s intense cultural emphasis on education, and now an analysis of Census data coupled with several local surveys shows that Nigerians don't just value education, but surpass all other U.S. ethnic groups when it comes to obtaining degrees.
"Being Black, you are already at a disadvantage," Oluyinka Olutoye, an associate professor of pediatric surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, told the Houston Chronicle. "You really need to excel far above if you want to be considered for anything in this country."
According to 2006 census data, 37 percent of Nigerians in the U.S. had bachelor's degrees, 17 percent held master's degrees and 4 percent had doctorates. In contrast, the same census data showed only 19 percent of white Americans had bachelor’s degrees, 8 percent held master’s degrees and only 1 percent held doctorates, the paper reports.
The census data was bolstered by an independent analysis of 13 annual Houston-area surveys conducted by Rice University and commissioned by the Chronicle.
"These are higher levels of educational attainment than were found in any other...community," Stephen Klineberg, a sociologist at Rice University who conducts the annual Houston Area Survey, told the paper.
However, despite the strides in education made by many African immigrants, including Nigerian-Americans, discrimination still colors their prospects for employment. A study of 2010 employment data by the Economic Policy Institute showed that, across nationalities and ethnic groups, Black immigrants carried the highest unemployment rate of all foreign-born workers.
In addition to cultural expectations about obtaining higher education, the paper reports that many African immigrants are more likely to pursue higher education as a means of maintaining their immigrant status in the U.S. "In a way, it's a Catch-22 — because of immigration laws you are forced to remain in school, but then the funny thing is you end up getting your doctorate at the age of 29," Amadu Jacky Kaba, an associate professor at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, told the paper. "If you stay in school, immigration will leave you alone." Source:www.onlinenigeria,com
Washington Discusses Ondo State’s Maternal Health (ABIYE) Program 2015, respectively.
DR. OLUSEGUN MIMIKO
Ondo State Governor Mimiko
The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) today examined Maternal Health in Ondo State, Nigeria at its headquaters in Washington, DC. Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, a physician and architect of the ABIYE (safe motherhood) model, together with Dinesh Nair (World Bank) Murtala Mai (Pathfinder International) and Jennifer G. Cooke CSIS Africa Program lead the discussions attended by several stake holders. The Abiye program of Ondo State is winning praise as a promising model creating incentives for expectant mothers to seek care and for health providers to deliver quality services. Nigeria today remains one of the 10 most dangerous countries in the world for a woman to give birth, accounting for an estimated 14 percent of maternal deaths worldwide each year. But despite these bleak national statistics, there are signs of growing opportunity. In recent years, the federal government has devoted greater policy attention and resources to maternal health than previously and a handful of state governments are beginning to tackle the challenge in a strategic and comprehensive way. ABIYE
The Abiye (safe motherhood) project, partly sponsored by The World Bank, was launched in October 2009 and piloted in Ifedore LGA with a mandate to develop sustainable equity-based healthcare services that will provide universal access to the people. The Abiye project was a bold paradigm shift from what obtained previously because it sought to bring qualitative and effective healthcare services to people where they live, work and play. The initial goal was to reduce child and maternal mortality in Ifedore LGA by at least 50% and increase facility utilization by at least 60% by the end of the year 2011. With the success of the program, the goal has been reviewed to achieve the Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5 which mandates reducing child and maternal mortality in Ondo State by 67% and 75% by the year
Ondo State in Nigeria
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is the 13th governor of Ondo state, not counting 4 administrators who served between 1993 and 1998. He assumed office on February 24, 2009 after contesting results of gubernatorial elections held on April 14, 2007 in which he allegedly lost to the incumbent Governor Olusegun Agagu. His is currently the first and only member of the Labour Party to win gubernatorial office in Nigeria. After serving for three and a half years he recently won reelection on October 20, 2012 and is serving his second term, making him the first Governor in Ondo State to legitimately win a second term election. Before he became Governor, Dr Mimiko was the Federal Minister of Housing and Urban Development during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo. In this Ministry, he coordinated the Obasanjo Administration’s Reform Program in the Housing and Urban Development sector. He was also a two-time Commissioner for Health in Ondo State and one time Secretary to the Ondo State Government – (20032005). In his state he is affectionately referred to as the architect of the ABIYE program which is an extremely important and internationally acclaimed “safe motherhood” program.

How did she do it? From beauty pageant Queen to a politicianParliamentarian….Awesome right?
In 1997, 20-year-old Benita Sena Okity-Duah then a student beat 19 other beautiful contestants to take the Miss Ghana crown and last Friday at age 35, the former beauty queen beat six candidates to take a seat in Ghana’s next Parliament.
She polled 52,554 votes beating the next candidate by a 10,516 margin. Benita, the firstever Miss Ghana beauty queen to enter Parliament, started her journey to Parliament House when earlier this year, she resigned as the Ledzokuku National Democratic Congress(NDC) Women’s Organiser to contest the primaries.
She defeated the incumbent MP, Nii Nortey Dua who also doubles as the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports to pick the ticket to represent the ruling NDC for the Ledzokuku constituency in the Greater Accra region at the just ended general elections.
When Benita was crowned Miss Ghana, she had just completed Achimota School and soon after her reign, she left for the UK to study.
“I studied fashion for four years at the London College of Fashion. The first year, I did an access to fashion programme and a three-year degree programme in fashion designing and technology,” she told Showbiz in 2007 during Ghana’s golden jubilee.
Benita returned to Ghana in 2003 and has since carved a niche for herself in Ghana fashion circles. “In school, most of the things we learnt were based on theory. I needed to have a feel of the real thing so I learnt from my mother who is into fashion.
“My first major assignment was to make clothes for contestants of the 2004 Model of The Universe competition. I did evening wear for all the 26 contestants who were from all over the world.”
Touching on some of the projects she will embark on as a member of Parliament for her constituency, Benita said the water situation in the area is not 100 percent complete and we will make sure that is improved. Also, with a population of about 250,000 people, there is the need for a central market so that people will stop trekking to other places . It will also boost commercial activities in the area, she said.
Benita does the designing and the cutting and supervises her workers. Although she is attached to her mother’s outfit, she has Source: http://www.ghanacelebrities.com/ separate workers and her own clientele. The former beauty queen tied the nuptial knot with Steve Okity-Duah the man she describes as “wonderful” in 2007.
Talking about her victory, Benita told Showbiz that she had been humbled by the love shown her by the people of the Ledzokuku constituency. “ I am really humbled. The people have shown me so much love that all I can say right now is a big ‘thank you’ to all of them. With the mandate given me, I will work hard with government to make sure we fulfil our promises.
“ I keep saying I am humbled because it hasn’t been an easy road. I had to work very hard. I mean put in double effort. My opponents kept hammering the fact that I am not an indigene of the place. It was their major campaign tool but I had to go round assuring the people that it is not about where one comes from but what one can do for them and I believe they saw reason in that and voted for me.

VMK announced the launch of the new Way-C tablet and Elikia smart phone earlier this week. To market the devices as authentically African, the budding tech company chose the names Way-C, which means “the light of the stars” and Elikia, which translates to “hope” in the local Lingala language. “Only Africans know what Africa needs,” says Congolese entrepreneur and founder, Verone Mankou. “Apple is huge in the US, Samsung is huge in Asia, and we want VMK to be huge in Africa.”
While the specs of the devices are not quite ‘top of the line’ compared to its competitors, its reasonable price tag is what Mankou believes is the biggest selling point for local African communities. The 27-year old entrepreneur says the aim is to get these products into the hands of African locals by making the products more affordable, according to his statement at the Tech4Africa conference in Johannesburg last month. Both devices use Google’s Android operating system. Although the company has high ambitions to compete with mobile juggernauts Apple and Samsung, there has been some negative speculation amid the tech community surrounding the authenticity of VMK’s products because the devices are manufactured in China. This reaction is due to the tainted reputation that other African tech companies have garnered in the past for producing copies of other products.
For instance, Smartplanet reports that a Nigerian-based company a few years ago first claimed to have released Africa’s homegrown tablet; however, it was soon discovered that the device was simply an OEM product sold throughout the world under different names. While Africa’s tech reputation has plummeted in recent years, VMK firmly states that the design and engineering of their products are authentically African-based, even though they are manufactured overseas.
“We are somewhat offended by the disregard of those who persist in denying the authentication of our products, despite evidence,” according to statement from VMK’s website. “Most of those critics are either Afro-pessimistic (who argue that ‘nothing good’ can come from Africa’), or just (future) competitors who have [an] OEM on the market or are planning to market and/or commercialize one.”
He says that their reason to outsource the manufacturing process to China was due to lower costs and limited availability of factories in the Congo. To make it even more clear, Mankou decided to engrave “Designed in the Republic of Congo, assembled in China” on the devices, which mimics the engravings on Apple’s iPhones and iPads that read “Designed by Apple in California.”
The three-year-old tech company also says that unlike previous “Africanbased” smartphones and tablets, there are no products on the market matching VMK devices in other countries under different branding.
VMK plans to sell the devices at retailers across 10 West African countries in addition to releases in Belgium, France and India.

The Example Her Page
Dr. Miriam C. Gyimah
It is said that writers, particularly poets, produce their best and most profound works after going through a painful and devastating experience or tragedy. I make no such claim today with this article, but it is a painful experience which prompts me to write this piece. Out of pain we grow and out of difficult and heartbreaking episodes we become more experienced, more careful and more philosophical about ourselves, our lives, our co-existence with others and our place and purpose in God’s world. To begin, let me ask: have you ever felt your heart break? I mean really feel it breaking and crumbling inside your chest and the pain is so real, so hurtful you cry, not because you want to, but because the pain forces itself out of you? Or have you ever been injured so terribly that again you feel the implosions in your heart and instead of acknowledging you have been hurt, you turn to anger, your go to defense mechanism, and express your rage and fierce disapproval with fire and brimstone all in display of disastrous proportions? But you are more hurt than angry. I am sure you have found yourself in at least one of these situations. You have felt the injury and succumbed to the tears or even the outrage and surrendered to the anger. Let me tell you about the aftermath of one episode. Hours and even days after, I was still in pain. I could still feel a terrible aching in my heart as it continually tore in pieces and crumbled over and over again. Then I would become angry once again that this person had assaulted me so terribly and what was more painful was that it was completely unwarranted, for I had not inserted myself in her way whatsoever, but somehow, she found it fit to assault me verbally and emotionally in the midst of several others. I relived the offense as it continually asserted itself in my mind’s eye and resound in my ears. There was no doubt I was hurt, for I privately shed tears. I, one who has been described as iron, choked up even days after the episode. And then the anger stirring in me begins to work its way into rage and all I
see is that my imagination runs wild depicting me having both hands around the neck of the offender choking her, stomping on her repeatedly, attempting to snuff the living daylights out of her, all because of the pain she had inflicted upon me. Then suddenly, I literally shake my head, attempting to snap the dark images out of my mind and return to my rightful consciousness, for how could one, how could I, ever entertain such violent and vengeful thoughts? It is completely against decorum and all dignity, but somehow, it felt as if it would be the only appeasement to my injury and more importantly, my fury. I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but if we allow it, our imagination and Satan, the enemy of all righteousness, can lead us to a very dark and foreign path. My mother says “Christ makes the difference.” It is a truth I hold dear, for repeatedly, He has been my salvation in more than one way. As flesh and blood, when we are injured terribly, we often become angry and want to avenge ourselves. However, it isn’t so much that we become angry, but that we choose anger. The fact is that we choose anger and not pain, for anger can empower us; it can justify us, while we believe pain only weakens us and reveals our vulnerability, our victimization, and who wants to be perceived as a victim? Certainly not I. Yet, although anger gives us strength and motivation to defend ourselves and dominate the offender by our own means, and hurt them as much as they have hurt us, it simply isn’t the best choice and to choose and/or yield to anger will not prove our best moments. Would engaging in a shouting match, terribly insulting or stomping the life out of another ever produce our best moments? As a child of God, while you are going through these severe feelings of anger, you begin to hear or feel a prodding advising calmness, calmness. It advises to let it go; forgive the offense; remain silent, but sometimes while you know very well it will be better to let it go, your pride and hurt will not allow it. You feel you have to avenge yourself. You have to give in to your anger and allow yourself to vent or even explode, giving that offender pound for pound. But it is for our best moments which we must strive. And it is for our finer moments that we have the benefit of Christ as our example. With all the mal-intended aggravations and conspiracies that Christ faced, He taught us through His life’s work that we must never succumb to or choose anger, but rather pain. Choosing the pain is enduring the hurt without avenging ourselves. For we have a greater purpose ahead of us. After all, that Man of Sorrow
bore all our pains and suffering so that we “may have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The one time that we see Christ angry was in defense of the temple of the Lord. The Bible narrates that, “… the Jews' Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise” (John 2: 13-16). The example of Christ demonstrates that the defense of the word, the Lord, His house, is the sort of anger we should respond to in righteous indignation. It should never be in defense of ourselves, for the Bible has already instructed us to die to the self as Galatians 5:24 states, "and those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires" and the Bible further teaches that even if we should become angry, we should not permit our anger to cause us to sin (Eph. 4:26). Additionally, the Bible warns, “… never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord” (Rom 12:19). So if God has already promised to deal with those who offend us, why do we bother? Time and again, Christ showed that it was best to remain silent when offended, when wrongfully accused and even when stricken, than to retaliate. Retaliation is a result of choosing anger instead of forgiveness. It is a sinful act of satisfying the self instead of obeying the ways of the Lord. By defending ourselves through our anger verbally or physically, we set aside God’s instructions and take matters into our own hands. We depose Him as our Lord and position ourselves as our own maker and god. We also say with our actions that instead of choosing Christ, we choose us. Of course it is painful to be hurt, disrespected, abused or betrayed by another, especially a loved one or someone we trust so deeply or even another that we snobbishly perceive is not our equal in many ways. But that offense serves as a temptation or test to which we must not succumb, but overcome. Christ was a model of restraint. He lived that exemplary life to demonstrate to us that we too can have those same virtues. He repeatedly forgave His offenders while also setting free those who were being persecuted because of their transgression. When falsely accused, He held His tongue. Even when He was painfully enduring the excruciating violence of crucifixion, He agonizingly cried out

“Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). Acknowledging the agony inflicted on us, though it might expose our vulnerability, is far more honorable than responding in anger, which will not only cause us to disgrace ourselves, but also fall out of the will of God. So don’t permit the enemy to take your mind, heart and actions to a place of no return. Do not allow anger to get the best of you. Certainly, do not entertainment any means of vengeance, for these suggestions of anger are all a plot of the enemy to alter the course of your life for the worse. Let’s be reminded that the Bible warns us that we should “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1st Peter 5: 8). Although it feels so natural and justified, anger is a tool of the enemy and he is ready to use it at minimum to compromise and complicate our lives and at most, to destroy us. Should we permit it to destroy us? If we do, we are giving in to the enemy’s machinations of manipulation. Can we afford that? Our only acceptable recourse is to turn to Christ and His example. The only prescription is to allow His word to heal the hurt and take away the anger, even as we exercise grace to forgive the offender. Instead of responding to an offense with a fit of rage, we should be strong, wise and humble enough to say, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”; then we can be sure that we are following the example of Christ and making our best moments.
Nigerian Pastors Adeboye, Olukoya And T.B Joshua Give 2013 Prophecies

this is necessary to avert debt and death that may ravage the industry in the year, due to some satanic covenant most of them have entered into unknowingly.
He also said, “it will be a year of horrible sinfulness; dangerous year to play with sin; unusually turbulent year; uncommon lawlessness; a year special prayers is needed in fragile areas of the world; a year of rage of waters and seas against ungodly nations and people; a year of shaking against nations that support lawlessness; unbelievable betrayers; prayers are needed to arrest civil war in many places; a year of resurgence of wickedness; uncommon destruction for the sexually pervert.”
The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said that the New Year will be better than 2012, just as he said that Nigerians must pray fervently over some issues.
Pastor Adeboye added that the Federal Government must learn from past floods and major disasters witnessed in the country last year and take decisive precautions to avert a repeat, otherwise the country might be plagued with another set of major disasters.
Also, except prayers are intensified, prominent Nigerians may lose their lives just as it happened last year.
These and more were the prophecies Pastor Adeboye rolled out during the crossover service held at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.
In a well-attended service by prominent people like Evangelists Mike and Gloria Bamiloye, among others, Adeboye, who mounted the pulpit at few minutes past 11.00 p.m. to speak on the topic: “Preparing for Signs and Wonders” said, 2013 would however, be a year of signs and wonders and would be better than 2012.
“The prayers of some of you minimised death of prominent Nigerians in the last year, so don’t stop praying in 2012,” he noted.
Adeboye, who enjoined Christians to intensify their worship, praises, prayers and devotion unto God to access breakthroughs for this year, said concerning Nigeria that at the count of the sixth month of the year, many will say “hope rising.”
For individuals, the man of God said although there may be temporary setbacks in the lives of people, God would eliminate them and speak peace to storms in people’s lives as well as make their stars shine brighter in the New Year.
Generally, he said God said 2013 would be better than 2012 in all facets.
On the international scene, Pastor Adeboye, popularly referred to as Daddy G.O, also stated that besides major breakthrough in Medicine promised in the New Year, God told him that nations that have promulgated and governed by “unholy laws should expect a taste of God’s divine fury this year, even as he warned that weather conditions may get worse if prayers are not intensified.
According to him, intensive intercessions are needed to prevent death of prominent world leaders in office, as well as booby traps set for world famous church leaders.
“The Lord says prominent world leaders need lots of prayers so as not to die in office. He says prominent church leaders all over the world need prayers against planned scandals,” Adeboye disclosed.
The crossover service, which ended at about 2.30 a.m, saw wife of Pastor Adeboye, Folu, before the close of the previous year, leading eminent wives of senior pastors, all clad in white and green traditional attire, rendering special thanksgiving songs to God.
Notwithstanding the surge in violence in some parts of the country, the year 2013 has been described as one which Nigerians and even the government should approach with all known caution, as it will be full of human rebellion.
General Overseer of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T.B Joshua has described 2013 as a year of judgment for politicians who rode to power on the crest of people’s support and later abandoned the same people, warning them to pray against death and sickness.
Joshua, in his prophecies for nations, continents and political leaders, said such politicians, especially those who got to power through the support of youths, would become helpless in the New Year and experience a plummet in their finances in addition to being traumatised by sicknesses, diseases and death.
This is just as he said prominent nouveau riche and famous people in the country would suffer the same fate this year.
“I am seeing great, famous, popular and rich men and politicians will become helpless in matter of sickness, disease, finances, death. One of the causes: they have failed to reward those who helped them to succeed.
“This is the year of judgment, especially for politicians who use youths to support their political ambitions without reward after winning power. Tell your neighbour: reward those who help you succeed now,” he said.
The cleric also predicted that there would be an upscale of natural disasters as well as increase in air and sea crashes, saying that those Also, the year will be inundated with mysterious happenwho move closer to God in the New Year would be spared the ings, disintegration and deception in high places, natural calamities. disaster and economic famine for the unrighteous and financial breakthrough for the righteous. According to him, while believers must be prayerful because of the violent nature of the year, he noted that two crucial things they must do is to pray that they should meet those whom God wants them to meet in the course of the year, and not to come across those whom God does not want them to meet.
Olukoya, who described the year as that of ‘fresh oil, and distinctive shining’ for members of the church, said 2013 is “A volatile year. Very short tempered, that is why I call it a fragile balloon. It is a dangerous year not to toy with.”
He said the year will serve as a year where there will be confusion in countries, among politicians and where organised destroyers will split and begin to destroy themselves.
Olukoya, who cautioned actors and actresses in the entertainment industry to engage in serious prayers, noted that

Swaziland: Police In Mini-Skirt Arrest Threat
Page

The police warning does not apply to women in traditional clothes
Women in Swaziland risk arrest if they wear mini-skirts or tops which expose part of their stomach, a police spokeswoman has said.
Wendy Hleta said police would enforce an 1889 law which bans "immoral" dressing if they receive a complaint.
She also said women in the deeply conservative kingdom make it easier for rapists by wearing mini-skirts.
In December 2012, police reportedly blocked women in mini-skirts marching against rape in the second city, Manzini.
However, the colonial-era law does not apply to traditional costumes worn by women during ceremonies like the annual reed dance, where the monarch may choose a new wife.
In 2000, the government introduced a law requiring school girls aged 10 years old and above to wear kneelength skirts to curb promiscuity as part of attempts to halt the spread of Aids.
The country has a population of more than 1.2 million and one of the highest HIV/Aids rates in the world. 'Undressing people with their eyes'
Ms Hleta said the 1889 law had not been enforced recently, but police wanted to alert women about its existence after receiving complaints from some men in Manzini about women wearing mini-skirts.
Anyone arrested and guilty of "immorality" under the Crimes Act of 1889 could receive a fine of up to $10
(£6) or a jail-term of up to six months if they failed to pay the fine, she said.
Women should be careful about wearing revealing clothes, the police spokeswoman said.
"We do not encourage that women should be harmed, but at the same time people should note acceptable conduct of behaviour," Ms Hleta is quoted by the privately owned Times of Swaziland newspaper as saying.
"The act of the rapist is made easy because it would be easy to remove the half-cloth worn by the women," she said.
Women who wear "skimpy clothes" also draw unnecessary attention to themselves, Ms Hleta said.
"I have read from the social networks that men and even other women have a tendency of 'undressing people with their eyes'. That becomes easier when the clothes are hugging or are more revealing," Ms Hleta is quoted as saying. However, the law excluded exposure of the body due to breast feeding and wearing cultural regalia, she said.
Swaziland is a patriarchal society, ruled by sub-Saharan Africa's only absolute monarch, King Mswati III. He has 13 wives and is often accused of leading a flamboyant lifestyle.
But in a move that was widely welcomed by rights groups, Swaziland's Ellinah Wamukoya was in November 2012 consecrated as the first woman bishop in Africa by the Anglican church.

Sulley Muntari Spotted Driving His Lamborghini After Shopping In Milan
Sulley" Ali Muntari is a Ghanaian footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Serie A club Milan. During his time at Inter Milan, he helped the team win the Champions League in 2009–10, and the Serie A title in 2008–09 and 2009–10.
Unfortunately the combination of a polished catwalk, skyscraper heels and a floor-sweeping gown proved to be disastrous for this beauty queen
Eighty nine beautiful women from all over the world had gathered at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas to battle it out for the much coveted title of Miss Universe 2012.
This preliminary stage helps to determine the 16 semi-finalists that will be announced on pageant night on December 19 together with results of the ongoing online voting on the Miss Universe website.
‘Rounds’ at this stage in the competition included posing in bikinis and evening gowns, but unfortunately for Miss Guyana she became a fashion victim of her floor-sweeping evening dress and crashed to the floor in front of the judges in Las Vegas.
The remaining 88 contestants must have assumed they were all one step closer to winning the Diamond Nexus Crown as the combination of a shiny catwalk, skyscraper heels and a floor-skimming gown proved disastrous for the pretty South American.
The pageant began as a local ‘bathing beauty’ competition spearheaded by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, Califiornia and is now an international annual tradition.
The contest has evolved into a year-round international organisation that claims to advance and support opportunities for these young women.
The competition aims to award women who are savvy, goal-oriented and aware and believes that women compete with the hope of advancing their careers, personal and humanitarian goals. Source: Dailymail.co.uk
Muntari's abilities first came to light in youth tournaments, while he was playing for Liberty Professionals youth team. He became a regular member of Ghana U20 team at the age of 16 as they finished runners-up at the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina, losing out to the hosts in the final.Despite impressing during a trial with Manchester United after the tournament, he ended up joining Italian club Udinese. Victory Over False Labels
Post
By: MARIE-CLAIRE NABILA KUJA
“Two images from my childhood come rushing to mind when I think about the person I am today, and why I am drawn to sharing my story with young girls and women all over the world”, said Marie-Claire Nabila Kuja, Founder and CEO of False Labels Global Inc., and the author of “The False Label Series”. The first image was from the first time she was treated like an outcast and told by many that she will never amount to anything. Having a child as a teenager and out of wedlock was wrong, but not as bad as earning her the names she was called. The second image was from the way her son was treated. Not only did people call her useless for hav-
ing a child out of wedlock, they pinned that stigma on her son, calling him a bastard. It was so emotionally hurtful and destructive that it completely damaged any sense of self-esteem she possessed. Anytime she heard people call them names, it reminded her of what she was not. During that period in her life she was uncomfortable, insecure, struggling, and at war with herself; until she got tired of fighting, and one day decided to turn things around. She was determined to know why she was created, and to what purpose she was called in life. While on a quest to find her life’s purpose, she started writing to herself (a journal). Gradually she noticed it was becoming a journey, not just a simple destination. They were real life happenings at that moment. She’d completed two to three pages a week, and they were thick, full, and ripe with feelings and thoughts. Amazingly, anytime she was down and read from her journals, she felt like an angel was talking to her; it felt so uplifting.
People around her will read them and said: “Oh! I totally felt this way or I relate so much—”. She became so fascinated with people’s stories and truths, how they were perceived by others, and how that didn’t necessarily jibe with what they felt. People would say: “she’s so put together” but didn’t know what a struggle her life was. They also didn’t know how apart she was from herself.
She wished there was a book like this when she was growing up, because she had so many different struggles centered around negative belief systems she had formed, based on what other people said about her. This is a universal struggle. Women from other parts of the world were relating deeply to her daily struggles and triumphs as she walked with God. She realized that she was not alone. The question then became what she could do to help empower their minds and spirits, and the generations to come? At that point the idea of having a strong voice became very confronting. She made a pact to share her story with the millions of girls throughout the world, whose lives have been complicated in the past by cultural practices and religious beliefs. She strongly believed that there is a potential that could be unleashed in young girls throughout the world if they were given the opportunity to believe they are JUST ENOUGH.
Thus she established a nonprofit organization called, False Labels Global Inc.

We understand from Genesis 2:8-14 that when God planted the Garden of Eden there was a river that parted into four heads which watered the land (country) of Havilah, Ehiopia and Assyria. A t the time there was no nation on earth bearing those names mentioned in the garden. It was not until Genesis 11 when Nimrod and his construction company tried to build what became the origin of occult (a religious system). Nimrod’s vision advanced Lucifer’s agenda for his presence on earth (Isaiah 14:12-15). God scattered them from building the tower of Babel out of which came Nations, Languages and Races of the earth. The nations were named after the sons and grandchildren of Noah, some of whom bear the name of the countries mentioned in the Garden of Eden. We thus understand that the Garden of Eden was a typology of the future. In the days of the Patriarch of the Bible names were given as a direct means of identification. The name of a person or nation depicts who they are. There is a strong tradition that some of the

Her passion also motivated and inspired her to write and publish two bestselling books [third one coming soon]; all of which are centered on the building and restoration of self-esteem and confidence in young girls and women. The book series and her NGO unveil a new energy that must take the whole world to action and a new vision of what must be done to save women and girls wherever they are. Prior to this understanding, Kuja was not fully aware that society makes millions of similar victims daily. She did not watch and cry over it, but decided to break her silence by taking a selfempowerment journey and going beyond her brokenness to work towards helping others stop the menace and inspiring millions across the globe to do the same. When all is said and done, her target is to reach young women and girls throughout the world, so as to help tip the scales and usher in a more compassionate world; one in which every woman can believe she is enough.

THE BLACK MAN IS NOT CURSED
Pastor George Annan

descendants of Noah through his son Ham were black. Ham had a son named Cush, which means "black" in Hebrew. Cush is the most common term designating color in reference to persons, people or lands used in the Bible It’s used 58 times in the King James Version. The Greek and Latin word is Ethiopia. In classical literature, Greek and Roman authors describe Ethiopians as black. Archaeology has found these people to be black. In the book of Jeremiah, the question is asked, "Can the Ethiopian change his skin?" Jeremiah 13:23. According to the table of nations which can be found in most Bibles, Genesis 10:6-20 describes the descendants of Ham as being located in North Africa, Central Africa and in parts of southern Asia. Psalm 105:23 mentions the "land of Ham" in Egypt, and Psalm 78:51 connect the "tents of Ham" with Egypt. THE CURSE OF HAM In the course of history, Ham looked upon the nakedness of his father and encouraged his siblings, Shem and Japheth, to do so. When Noah woke up from his drunkenness he knew what Ham had done and so pronounced a curse on Canaan, the fourth son of Ham Genesis 9:2227. This prophetic curse came on the Canaanites, the pagan descendants of Ham’s son, Canaan, who settled in the region which became the Promised Land. As punishment, God commanded the Hebrews to conquer the Canaanites in order to protect his people from their destructive ways including their idolatrous worship and child sacrifice. From the records of history, the Canaanites and their curse have long been extinct. According to Dr. Edwin Yamauchi, professor of history; Miami University of Ohio, on the day of discovery no other verse in the Bible has been so distorted and disastrously used for the exploitation of the African and the Black race than the curse of Noah. The curse of Noah on Canaan did not create the Black race of African descent neither did it sentence the entire Black race into servitude and slavery.
THE TOWER OF BABEL Merriam?-Webster dictionary gives the etymology of the word, Babel as from Hebrew meaning ‘the gate of the gods’. In the Garden of Eden Lucifer got man to disobey God, while through the Tower of Babel the fallen angel and his cohorts gained entry into all nations named after the descendants of Noah on all continents to infiltrate and destabilize every developmental activity. Occultism, which became the progeny of the Tower of Babel, has its roots in all nations on earth today the fruit of which are colonialism, slavery, divination, fortune telling, telepathy, witchcraft, idolatry and imperialism, political and economic instability among others. Why do you think advanced nations like the U.S.A. will go through so much uncertainty sending waves of instability, even depression among families, job creators, senior citizens, students and the entire world because of disagreement on fiscal cliff and death ceiling policies. Something all leaders in both parties admit it’s simple to solve. Why do you think U.S.A is struggling with gun control when children, parents, teachers and dear ones are been massacred in schools, theatres, synagogues and homes? Why do you think the African continent is lagging behind in development despite the inflow of knowledge, education and technology? The problem here is the forces of evil, darkness wagging war on developed and developing nations to get us frustrated in our developmental efforts and deny the existence, authority and the power of God and drag mankind be it white or black to join them in hell. No one nation is insulated from the onslaught of the forces of darkness.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance Psalm33:12 LEADERSHIP When Moses acted on his mandate to lead the Hebrews to the Promised Land, he requested the assistance of Hobab to lead them and be to them as eyes “give them direction”. Numbers 10:29-32. Hobab was the son of Raguel or Jethro the father-in-law to Moses who was a Kenite, a sub-division of midianites, descendants of Ham (people of color). It is recorded in Jud. 1:16 that the descendants of Hobab were settled on a portion of the Promised Land and became proselytes. In other words, a person of color provided leadership role in the conquest of Canaan by the Hebrews. All through history from business to education, technology, science, sports, military, music, entertainment, governance and politics, people of color have always given wisdom and outstanding leadership sometimes in the worse of situations. Scripture has said; The thing that hath been is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and THERE IS NO NEW THING UNDER THE SUN. Ecclesiastics 1:9 To read more about the subject, expect a book to be published soon in a year or so by the author. www.redemptionnews.org

They were believed to have been contracted to attend the event which they eventually missed.
Before the crash, Timi Dakolo was in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a state that shares boundary with Bayelsa State where the ill-fated crash occurred.

Just A Quick E-mail Note
A Illinois man who left the snowballed streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail.
Unable to find the scrap of paper on which he had written her e-mail address, he did his best to type it in from memory. Unfortunately, he missed one letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher's wife, whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor dead.
At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
Dearest Wife, Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Your Loving Husband.
P.S.: Sure is hot down here.

Pastor vs. Choir Director
Page 38
Church feuds are not uncommon, especially among cliques in the congregation. But when the pastor and choir director get into it, stand aside.
One week our preacher preached on commitment, and how we should dedicate ourselves to service. The director then led the choir in singing, 'I Shall Not Be Moved.'
The next Sunday, the preacher preached on giving and how we should gladly give to the work of the Lord. The choir director then led the song, 'Jesus Paid It All.'
The next Sunday, the preacher preached on gossiping and how we should watch our tongues. The hymn was 'I Love To Tell The Story.'
The preacher became disgusted over the situation, and the next Sunday he told the congregation he was considering resigning. The choir then sang 'Oh, Why Not Tonight.'
When the preacher resigned the next week, he told the church that Jesus had led him there and Jesus was taking him away. The choir then sang, 'What A Friend We Have in Jesus.'
River Of God
A southern minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great expression he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."
With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." And then finally, he said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." Sermon complete, he then sat down.
This little old lady goes to the doctor and says, "Doctor I have this problem with passing gas, but it really doesn't bother me too much. It never smells and it's always silent. As a matter of fact I've passed gas at least 20 times since I've been here in your office. You didn't know I was passing gas because it doesn't smell and it's silent".
The doctor says "I see. Take these pills and come back to see me next week."
The next week the lady goes back. "Doctor," she says, "I don't know what you gave me, but now my passing gas... although still silent, it stinks terribly."
"Good", the doctor said, now that we've cleared up your sinuses, we'll start to work on your hearing.
The song leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn #365: 'Shall We Gather at the River'."
