In an interview with VOA Hausa Service in Washington DC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said stories that he was banned from the United States was ‘disinformation’. Atiku He spoke on Thursday, after his arrival to the US capital, where he lodged at Trump International Hotel. Here is the transcript of the interview conducted by VOA’s Aliyu Mustapha Sokoto. VOA: What has been in the news for many years has come to past right now I’m together with the former Vice President of Nigeria and the Presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after he had just returned from some interactive session with some high ranking Congress Men and Women. Your excellency, now that you have visited Washington D.C, does it have to do with those who said you cannot come to the United State of America or the visit is for what purpose? How long more can Nigerians wait?
Atiku: Aliyu, I told you before that my coming to the United State is in the hands of Americans if they decided to issue a Visa to me I will definitely come and if they refused to give me I cannot come. And now they have issued it to me and I am here. I’m having some positive discussions with some of the officials. I was in the Congress and I had discussions with some high ranking Congress men and Women about Nigeria and how Nigeria intends to improve her relationship with the United States of America.
VOA: After visiting the Congress, do you intend to meet with some other people?
Atiku: Yes, by tomorrow (Friday) I will go to the State Department in order to have vital discussions with some of their officials.
VOA: Will you also meet with the members of the United States Chamber of Commerce?
Atiku: Yes, I will meet them tomorrow (Friday) by the Grace of God.
VOA: Who invited you to the United State?
Atiku: I was invited by many organizations in United States.
VOA: Before, some people are saying that you cannot come to the United States of America but now you are here people will stop doubting.
Atiku: The whole thing is about misinformation.
VOA: What do you mean by misinformation?
Atiku: Because for a very long time they have been lying to them (Nigerians) and they agreed; I tried to explain to them but they refused to listen. And I hope now people are going to understand.

Atiku Abubakar has confirmed his arrival in the United States.
In a post on Twitter, he said: “Just arrived Washington D.C for meeting with US government officials, Nigerians living in D.C metropolis and the business community. AA”, with a photograph, showing him clutching a bouquet of flowers, along with Senate President Bukola Saraki and a lady.
Mr Abubakar would be speaking at a forum by the American Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. and attend other meetings aimed at boosting his presidential election standing.
Mr Abubakar's arrival in the U.S. may rattle the ruling All Progressives Congress, which has taunted him for his inability to enter the U.S. for over a decade. Mr Abubakar has not visited the U.S. since 2007 when he left as Nigeria's vice-president. He served under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Mr Obasanjo accused Mr Abubakar of fraud while in office, and he was also linked to corruption charges filed in the U.S. The politician denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
For the over 12 years that Mr Abubakar was unable to visit the U.S. American authorities had declined to issue him entry visa and there were speculation that a secret indictment had been entered against him by that country's authorities.
VOA: Your coming to America has shown that you are going to have some interactions with some top officials of the United State are they in support of your candidacy?
Atiku: Yes.
VOA: Are you convinced that the United States Government are in support of your candidacy?
Atiku: There is no doubt because the United States is ready to support any country that is practicing democracy.
VOA: People know you as a businessman; do you think that your business background and experience will influence the United States Government to support you?
Atiku: One good thing is that Nigeria is a country that is practicing democracy and everyone knows that we have played a significant role and have done a lot to sustain democratic governance in Nigeria and it is very important.

It is opening its borders to one million more immigrants, according to a report tabled in parliament by Ahmed Hussen, minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship.
“Thanks in great part to the newcomers we have welcomed throughout our history, Canada has developed into the strong and vibrant country we all enjoy. Immigrants and their descendants have made immeasurable contributions to Canada, and our future success depends on continuing to ensure they are welcomed and well-integrated,” the report said.
Hussen is also one of the immigrants. He arrived in Canada in 1993 when he was 16 from then-war-torn Somalia.
According to the report, Canada welcomed in 2017 more than 286,000 permanent residents including 44,000 resettled refugees, protected persons and people admitted under humanitarian, compassionate and public policy considerations.
The country also adopted plans to increase the number of immigrants to 340,000 annually by 2020.
“This increase is also helping us improve service, as we have been able to address many chronic backlogs in our immigration system. Key results include reuniting spouses and other family members within 12 months, reducing citizenship processing time from 24 to 12 months and processing caregiver applications in less than 12 months,” Hussen added in the report.
Already, Canada is facing an influx of immigrants from the United States following President Donald Trump’s policy that has sparked fears that some people would lose their temporary protected status.
Though Trump’s move to end the TPS program was temporarily blocked by a federal judge, Haitian-Americans are still moving in their numbers across the northern border with fears that they will be deported if they stayed in the U.S.

Burundi To Change Its Capital City January

The Burundian parliament has voted to move the country’s capital from Bujumbura back to the ancient capital of Gitega.
The vote took place on Wednesday and the leader of parliament said the move would take place over three years.
The first to move will be the upper house of parliament, the Senate - starting on Friday.
President Pierre Nkurunziza, who has to sign off the change, promised in 2007 to move the capital, saying Gitega was geographically more centrally placed in Burundi, AFP reports. Others have been more sceptical about the motives behind the move.
Journalist Abdi Latif Dahir suggests in an article on the Quartz news site that it could be linked to Bujumbura "increasingly being an opposition stronghold, leading to continued clashes between protesters and police".
Bujumbura will remain the economic capital of the country.

This revelation was made by the country’s Minister of Aviation, Mr Joseph Adda, at a stakeholders meeting.
The finance minister who presented this year’s budget to parliament last year had disclosed the intention of the government to have its own home-based airline.
This according to the Aviation Minister will by the second quarter of this year be implemented. According to the minister, the ministry had already entered into an understanding with Ethiopian Airlines and was also engaging with some investors who wanted to participate in the effort.
He further added that negotiations will be held in February that would be concluded by the end of March when “hopefully the operationalisation of a home-based carrier will commence”.
Mr Adda was optimistic that the intervention will bring a lot of improvement in the country’s economy since it will create jobs and attract a lot of investors.
“This would be an opportunity for those Ghanaian youth who are technology inclined and would like to become pilots and airline technicians to get themselves trained to achieve their goals,” he said. Source: https://howafrica.com

Head pastor resigns after confessing to sleeping with his married daughter A UK-based Zimbabwean pastor who has obviously lost what it takes to be the man of God for his followers to look up to, thought it prudent to step aside after confessing to having slept with his married daughter.
The incestuous and scandalous act of Pastor Walter Masocha, leader of Agape for All Nations Church reportedly came to light after his daughter’s husband chanced on the explicit messages and nude pictures she had been sending to her father.
Walter’s shocked son-in-law took evidence of his discovery to his mother-inlaw, Judith to complain to her.
Being equally surprised, she also confronted her pastor husband who reportedly confessed to the incestuous act, probably because of the strength of the evidence.

In a statement that announced his resignation, one of the church’s leaders, Francis Aturia referred to the incident as a “serious moral fall”.
Dr.Walter Masocha was once in the news for allegations of sexual molestation of his female church members. This particular incident happens to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The statement from the church’s leadership apparently addressed to the congregation reads: "Sadly, as a result, we would like to inform you all that Dr.Walter Masocha has with immediate effect taken leave of absence in order to deal with a serious moral fall which he has informed his family, the Board of
Trustees and the Commissioners.
"He is broken-hearted and distraught at the result of the misdemeanours and feels that he is not fit to continue as Spiritual Leader of Agape.
"This has come as a significant shock and blow to Dr Judith and the family, and no doubt to many Agape children and other people worldwide. A full investigation will be conducted in due time, and the appropriate disciplinary action shall be taken.
"Many on hearing this will be deeply shocked and disturbed by such a disappointing revelation. We implore you to remember most especially, his gracious wife, Dr Judith and consider a Christlike response to all who are involved at every level of the church family.
"We would like to kindly ask you to remember him and his family in your prayers. In view of the fact that he is on leave from his official role, we would like to ask you all at this time to avoid contacting him. We also urge you to avoid contacting Dr Judith and the family in respect of their privacy at this difficult time. At this time, we encourage prayer fuelled with loving action to support one another and keep our focus on our Lord Jesus Christ who by His Holy Spirit is the only one that will enable the current tragedy to be worked out ultimately for His own glory somehow, sometime." Africa is one of the continents of the world with diverse traditions. Earlier today we reported about how some African countries prepare their women for marriage. However, there is one tribe in Uganda whose way of preparing its women for marriage differs completely from other African tribes. The question now is ‘How much influence should aunties have on their nieces? In many African cultures, aunties provide counselling to their young nieces as they age from adolescence to adulthood. When it comes to marriage, these aunties prepare their nieces for the challenges that lie ahead.
But for the Banyankole people in Southwestern Uganda, the aunt does more than the above, especially during the marriage.
When a couple wants to get married, the primary responsibility of the bride’s aunt is to carry out a sexual check on both her niece and her nephew-in-law. Essentially, the aunt does this by having sex with the groom to check his potency and virility.
She also has to “test” if the bride is still a virgin before they are allowed to consummate their marriage.
In other traditions, the aunt is said to go as far as listening in or watching as the bride and groom have sex in order to prove the couple’s potency.
Inasmuch as this practice may sound weird, it shows how the people of Banyankole hold virginity in high esteem.
As soon as a Banyankole girl is eight, she goes through a lot of restrictions to prepare her for marriage.
When other children her age in other cultures are out having fun and playing, a girl in this part of Uganda is mostly kept indoors, where she is fed beef and millet porridge and forced to drink milk in large quantities so that she becomes fat.
Being fat is synonymous with beauty among the Banyankoles.
When she starts developing breasts, she is also asked by her parents to abstain from sexual activities.
It is the duty of a Banyankole father to find a wife for his son as he pays the bridewealth as well. This consists of some cows, goats and pots of beer, depending on how rich a person is.
Once the bride price is paid, the marriage preparations begin. On the wedding day, there is a lot of feasting at the bride’s home, where the father is expected to slaughter a bull.
At the bridegroom’s home, there is another feast where the marriage is consummated. This is after the bride’s aunt has “tested” her niece’s purity and slept with the groom to also check his potency.

hen the children of Israel wailed, groaned and desperately prayed for their deliverance from 400 hundred years of the slave-holding hands of Egyptian ruling power, the Lord heard them and called upon a stammering, unassertive, fearful fugitive to save them. God was making a way with Moses. He was answering the Israelites’ prayers. When Moses made his reluctant return to Egypt, he sought the much needed assistance of his brother Aaron, as the Lord had provided, and they proceeded in their painful, tiresome, and often discouraging mission of fighting to secure the emancipation of the oppressed members of God's future army. It wasn't trouble-free.

It can be difficult, even excruciating sometimes with employees who have set their eyes against you, perhaps because they wanted that position or perhaps simply because they are illwilled human beings. Even when God has spoken on your life, even when He Himself has opened the door, take note and accept that it does not come contingent upon your understanding, though we think it does. We think that just because a way has been made, we will have it gloriously easy, that there might not be a pharaoh to obstruct our path, that there may not be a Red Sea that will encourage a capitulation from us, a hindrance that tempts us and suggests we should return to our former state, that we should surrender and relinquish the blessing and render void all our sacrifices, prayers and maybe even tears. The very long and sometimes perilous journey of the Israelites from bondage to freedom is a teachable tool that will never lose its effect. The fact is while this miracle of an entire nation did historically occur thousands of years ago, it can repeatedly be recalled as a narrative to instruct, to warn and to encourage today and future generations in their relationship with God and their conduct when engaging their own spiritual journeys and answered prayers.
When we pray to God from our desperation pleading for Him to hear us, to deliver us, to open a door, to make a way that only He can make, He answers, for the Bible tells us that “the fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much” (St. James 5:16) and Jesus Himself also assures us that if we ask anything in His name, He will do it (John 14:14). However, sometimes that answer is not how we expected our prayers to be heard. We want a beautiful and clear path to be made instantaneously. We want a path that presents no obstacles. We don’t expect to face a menacing Red Sea standing in our way.
We pray and pray for months and even years for a new job or another significant blessing and we get it, but this blessing, as much you believe that it came from the Lord, is not what you expected. It seems as if as soon as you walked into those new

They were often hungry. So they complained a lot and they bemoaned their lot. When your door is opened and you begin to encounter challenges threatening to strip you of your rightful blessings, do not be so faint and quick to surrender what was hard to come by. Stay the course, because God has greater things for you.

doubt if you were meant to be a parent and if it was a blessing to have had this baby. Take heart and hold still. Don’t let the struggles of your current situation lead you to regret and dejection. Consider that God heard your prayer and gave you a breakthrough. Consider that our trials do not end because a door has been opened and remember the Shunammite woman who, after being blessed with a son, saw him die. What did she say to the prophet Elisha when he asked how she and her child were doing? She answered, “it is well” (2nd King 4: 23). And after that response, what did God use Elisha to do? The child was brought back to life. Just because our payers have been answered, it doesn’t mean we should discard our faith. We will always need to use it even in the midst of our blessings.
I know it can become all too trying sometimes with life and even the very blessings that we receive from God can be the beginning of trials of tribulations to come, but we must remember that our God neither sleeps nor slumbers and that He sits on His throne with His eyes on us and His heart extended to us. We must remember that the enemy is always at work to counter our every move and even God’s own moves, but the Lord has already promised that Satan is defeated and has been made Christ’s footstool (Eph 1: 21 & 22). Furthermore, let us recall the very thing He told the Israelites, that they should be courageous and not be afraid of their enemies because He will go with them and that He will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6).
So let us trust God. Let us not lean on our own understanding, thinking we know the beginning and ending of all things. We do not. We do not have the mind of God to know all His plans for us, how He is going to remove those very people who are hounding us, how He is going to use their harassment of us against them. Because we do not know these things, we tend to want to quit and desert the blessing we have been given, renaming it as a curse. If anything, we should say it is well. If anything, we should sing songs of praise to His name rather than complaining and regretting where He has landed us, because in the end, we will realize that through the opening of that door although He has given us a new position, He is still working to smooth the way for us to get to our proper station and status within that new environment He has ushered us.
I speak from experience when I tell you God will use that situation to demonstrate to you how much He loves you. I speak from experience to know that it is better for you to hang on, take your daily strength from His word and plant your feet where He has landed you, because something greater is awaiting you. The Children of Israel had to see Egypt suffer ten plagues and then face the Red Sea, hunger, thirst, harsh weather conditions and many enemies that threatened and pursued them. But the Lord was true to them and as long as they trusted in Him, as long as they obeyed his word, He never forsook them and was right there serving as their banner and their fortress. Let God serve as your banner in this new blessing that seems to be a challenge. Kenyan Invents Smart Gloves That Translate Sign Language to Audio Speech
Roy Allela, 25, has invented smart gloves which convert sign language movements into audio speech. The gloves, named Sign-IO, have sensors stitched on to each finger which interpret the word being signed from the bend of the finger. Allela says he was inspired by the need to communicate with his 6-year-old niece who was born deaf. Allela is among 16 young Africans who have been shortlisted by The Royal Academy of Engineering Africa Prize for inventors from six countries to receive funding, training and mentoring for projects intended to revolutionize sectors from agriculture and science to women’s health.
The winner will be awarded Sh3.2 million (£25,000) while each of the three runners up will receive Sh1.2 million (£10,000).
According to Allela, his niece encountered difficulties while communicating with members of her family since none of them is conversant with sign language. The smart gloves – dubbed Sign-IO – have flex sensors that are placed on each finger and have the capacity to quantify the bend of a finger and process the letter being signed.
Using Bluetooth, the gloves are connected to a mobile application, that Allela also developed, which then converts the sign into audio speech.
“My niece wears the gloves, pairs them to her phone or mine, then starts signing and I’m able to understand what she’s saying,” says Allela.
Allela said the speed at which the signs are vocalized is one of the most important aspects of the smart gloves.
“People speak at different speeds and it’s the same with people who sign – some are really fast, others are slow, so we integrated that into the mobile application so that it’s comfortable for anyone to use it,” he said.
Through the app, users are able to set the language, gender, and pitch of the audio voice, with accuracy results averaging 93 percent.
“It fights the stigma associated with being deaf and having a speech impediment. If the gloves look cool, every kid will want to know why you have them on,” says Allela.
Allela’s innovation recently won the Hardware Trailblazer award from the prestigious American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) during its 2017 ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) competition.

Meet Graça Simbine Machel, the only person in history of the universe to have been the first spouse to two different democratically elected African leaders.
Graça Simbine Machel was born on 17 October 1945, in Gaza, Mozambique, and she was the last child in a family of six. Her father died three weeks before her birth and left an instruction that she must be educated through high school. A will that was carried out by her older siblings. After completing high school, the Methodist church granted her a scholarship to study at Lisbon University, Portugal. And she chose to major in languages.

Samora Machel died in a plane crash on October 19, 1986, and this made her to resign her post as the country’s Minister of Education.
Graça’s marriage to Mandela was dramatic as it was announced at the 80th birthday of the late icon. This was in the presence of over 2,000 international guests in 1998.
Having tied the nuptial knots with Mandela, Graça assumed the position of the First Lady of South Africa at age 52.

Tyndale continued hiding among the merchants in Antwerp and began translating the Old Testament while the King’s agents searched all over England and Europe for him. WHO CONDEMNED TYNDALE TO DEATH!
How many Bibles do you have in your house? For most of us, Bibles are easily accessible, and many of us have several. That we have the Bible in English owes much to William Tyndale, sometimes called the Father of the English Bible. 90% of the King James Version of the Bible and 75% of the Revised Standard Version are from the translation of the Bible into English made by William Tyndale, yet Tyndale himself was burned at the stake for his work on October 6, 1536. He translated the Greek Bible into English. Simple.
That you have a Bible in a language you can read is largely due to his labors, and many of the very phrases you read in it retain the flavor of his understanding of the Greek and Hebrew. A graduate of Oxford and Cambridge, Tyndale had a burning desire to make the Bible available to even the common people in England, in order to correct the ‘Biblical ignorance of the priests’. At one point Tyndale told a priest, “If God spares my life, ere many years pass, I will cause a boy that driveth the plow shall know more of the Scriptures than thou dost.” Today, 90% of the King James Version of the Holy Bible and 75% of the Revised Standard Version are from the translation made by Tyndale, a man to whom you owe more than you’ll ever know. TYNDALE’S WORK WAS ‘ILLEGAL’!
It was a nice dream, but how was Tyndale to accomplish his task when translating the Bible into English was ‘illegal’?
He went to London to ask Bishop Tunstall if he could be authorized to make an English translation of the Bible, but the Bishop would not grant his approval.
However, Tyndale would not let the disapproval of men stop him from carrying out what seemed so obviously God’s will. With encouragement and support of some British merchants, he decided to go to Europe to complete his translation, then have it printed and smuggled back into England.
In 1524 Tyndale sailed for Germany. In Hamburg, he worked on the New Testament, and in Cologne, he found a printer who would print the work. However, news of Tyndale’s activity came to an opponent of the Reformation who had the press raided.
Tyndale himself managed to escape with the pages already printed and made his way to the German city Worms where the New Testament was soon published.
Six thousand copies were printed and smuggled into England.
A copy of Tyndale’s The Obedience of a Christian Man fell into the hands of Henry VIII, providing the king with the rationale to break the Church in England from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534. In 1535, Tyndale was arrested and jailed in the castle of Vilvoorde (Filford) outside Brussels for over a year.
Tyndale’s work was denounced by authorities of the Roman Catholic Church and Tyndale himself was accused of heresy. HOW DID TYNDALE DIE?
Tyndale, 42 was finally found by an Englishman who pretended to be his friend but then turned him over to the authorities. After a year and a half in prison, he was brought to trial for heresy — FOR BELIEVING, among other things, IN THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS and that THE MERCY OFFERED IN THE GOSPEL WAS ENOUGH FOR SALVATION. In August 1536, he was condemned and was executed [burned alive at the stake] publicly on October 6, 1536, in a small town in Belgium. TYNDALE’S LAST WORDS!
As he burnt to death, Tyndale reportedly said “Lord, open the king of England’s eyes.” WAS HIS PRAYER ANSWERED?
YES! The prayer was answered first in part when three years later, in 1539, Henry VIII required every parish church in England to make a copy of the English Bible available to its parishioners. Today, Tyndale’s prayer is fully answered, not only are the King’s eyes opened, but the Bible a universal instrument. RECOGNITIONS & AWARDS!

Authorities said Osei made no attempts to help the newborn or remove him from the water, and she did not ask first responders how he was doing or request to see him.
A woman gave birth to a baby boy and then left the newborn partially submerged in a toilet at her Lancaster County workplace, according to the district attorney's office.
Emmanuella Osei, 23, of Reading, is charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child regarding the Monday night incident at an apartment in Warwick Township.
Police say Osei works for Greater Hearts Human Services as a care assistant, and was working at a unit in the Newport Commons apartment complex when the incident happened (the Newport community is not an assisted living facility but does have at least one unit operated by Greater Hearts).
The district attorney's office said Osei called her supervisor multiple times to say she felt ill. She asked for someone to relieve her because she could not leave the patients alone. She eventually called her supervisor from a toilet around 10:20pm and asked the supervisor to call 911.
A responding officer found her in the bathroom with the door partially open. A large amount of blood and what appeared to be an umbilical cord were on the floor. The officer then pulled Osei

Police arrested 44-year-old Daniel Kankam over the weekend, charging him with murder.

Gabon President Bongo back home a week after failed coup
Gabon's President Ali Bongo has returned to his country just over a week after an attempted coup. The occasion, sponsored by friends from the United States of America (USA), including Sylvester, Jonathan, Linda and Alusine brought together hundreds of deaf people from Liberia, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria and across the four corners of Sierra Leone was organized at the Women’s Training Centre Hall, Kingharman Road in Freetown on January 5th 2019.
In her opening remarks, Chairperson of the event, Dr. Sarian Kamara who is former Deputy Chief Medical Officer welcomed all attendees on behalf of the sponsors and expressed happiness over the large turnout of members of the association. She emphasized on the essence for deaf people to live in peace and share love among them.
She deliberated that the sponsors decided to organize such a party not only to bring deaf people together but to also demonstrate that there are people who always think about transforming their lives and discussed that deaf people are living vulnerable lives in Sierra Leone. She advised members of the association to avoid dispute and work as one for progress and pledged to give her personal support to the union if they remain united. “I know there are challenges but we must praise God to keep us alive and gone through 2018”, she told audience and invoked the power of God to resolve all difficult problems faced by the deaf.
She demonstrated gratitude to all that were present for their ability to attend the merriment and paid tribute to all the people who lost their lives.
Delivering the keynote address, President for SLeNAD, Alhaji Mohamed Rahman buttressed that she was happy to see large turnout of colleagues to the program. He thanked sponsors for bringing together large number of deaf people for the first time in the history of the country.
He encouraged colleagues to unite and love one another as God loves us for development.
In a worrisome mood, Mr. Rahman explained that majority of the deaf are sleeping in the streets because they lack access to quality housing and mentioned that many of them have dropped out of school because they lack the necessary support. He said they have been advocating to government to give them piece of land to construct dwelling homes but all fell in deaf ears.
He complained that there are only three schools constructed for the deaf all over the country and narrated that SLeNAD has established many years ago and it is operating nationwide. He encouraged colleagues to learn vocational trainings like tailoring, hair dressing, gara tie dying among the lots to earn their living and be self reliance. He called on all members to always dialogue and resolve problems amicably for the good of all.
In his statement, Alhaji Lahai Vangahun thanked God to be part of the process and described the event as a big day for the deaf to meet and enjoy together. He welcomed all international and local guests to the program and spoke on the importance of deaf people to an umbrella organization.

Lauretta Krah is a Pastry Chef as well as a Cake and Sugar Artist from Ghana, She is also CEO of DLaurel Cakes; a firm bent on leaving its mark on the Ghanaian confectionary industry and beyond. Lauretta began her business in 2016 while pregnant, the newborn arrived the following year as she ran her startup.
During an interview with TheAfricanDream.net Lauretta shared her passion for the sugar art plus the history and drive behind her passion as an entrepreneur. She said “I learned how to bake after I completed St. Mary’s Senior High School for girls in Accra, Ghana. I worked a little to perfect myself in the art but then had to stop.“
She stopped because she gained admission into the University of Ghana to major in Geography & Resource development and French, “so I prioritized continuing my education and shelved my entrepreneurial ambitions for a while. I, however, picked up from where I left off after completing University and emersed myself into cake artistry while waiting for a job in the cooperate world.”
It was around this time that Lauretta Krah “started realizing how creative I could be with this passion and decided to pursue it further and seriously after I completed the university in 2013.“

Losing candidates can contest the results before the country's constitutional court in the coming days. The swearing-in of the new president is planned for January 18.
Some observers have suggested that Kabila's government sought to make a deal as hopes of a win for Shadary faded.
The result is expected to cause further suspicion that Tshisekedi struck a power-sharing pact with Kabila. Tshisekedi's camp has acknowledged contacts since the vote with Kabila's representatives but denies there has been any kind of deal.
Speaking to thousands of cheering supporters in Kinshasa, Tshisekedi paid his respects to Kabila, whom he described as "an important political partner".

The result, which was announced in the early hours of Thursday, was rejected by rival Martin Fayulu, who was backed by opposition heavyweights and had led in polling prior to the December 30 vote.
Tshisekedi had won with 38.57 percent of more than 18 million ballots cast, Corneille Nangaa, head of the election commission said at about 3am (02:00 GMT) in a news conference that appeared timed to avoid any immediate reaction on the streets.
Tshisekedi received more than seven million votes compared with about 6.4 million for Fayulu, who had warned against manipulation.
Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, the hand-picked candidate of long-time President Joseph Kabila was third with about 4.4 million votes.
Barnabe Kikaya Bin Karubi, one of Kabila's top advisors, accepted the loss of the ruling party's preferred candidate.
"Of course we are not happy as our candidate lost, but the Congolese people have chosen and democracy has triumphed," Kikaya told Reuters news agency shortly after Tshisekedi was declared the winner.
The announcement came hours after the riot police were deployed at the commission's headquarters in Kinshasa amid fears of violence due to a disputed result.
Election observers reported a number of irregularities during the vote and the opposition alleged it was marred by fraud.
The result could lead to the vast country's first democratic transfer of power since independence from Belgium in 1960, with Kabila due to leave office this month after 18 years in power - and two years after the official end of his mandate.
The Catholic Church said on Thursday the poll results announced by the electoral commission did not match its vote tally.
The African Union called for any dispute over the election to be resolved through dialogue.
"It is important that any disagreement over the proclaimed results, notably that they did not reflect voters' wishes, be resolved peacefully, by turning to the relevant laws and through political dialogue between the parties involved," Moussa Faki Mahamat, head of the AU, said in a statement.

"The results have nothing to do with the truth of the ballot box," he said in an interview with Radio France Internationale, calling on observers to publish the real results.
Tshisekedi, 55, is the son of the late Etienne Tshisekedi, the face of the DRC's opposition for decades.
He has promised a return to the rule of law, to fight the "gangrene" of corruption and to bring peace to the conflict-wracked east of the resource-rich country.
More than one million people were kept from voting on election day because of an Ebola outbreak and militia violence in opposition strongholds, mainly in DRC's east.

Uproar as Zambian energy drink causes ‘prolonged erection lasting 6 hours’
Energy drinks usually contain added caffeine and other ingredients that are supposed to boost mental health and physical performance, but an energy drink, manufactured in Zambia, is doing more than that – causing prolonged erections.
The drink, produced by Revin Zambia Limited, a company located in Ndola in the north of the country, contains sildenafil citrate used to treat erectile dysfunction. This was disclosed by the National Drug Authority (NDA) in Uganda, which said it had tested samples from a bottle of the drink – Natural Power SX – after a man complained of an erection lasting nearly six hours, constant sweating, and abnormal heartbeat. Zambian authorities have since halted the production and distribution of the drink pending investigations. In a joint statement cited by the BBC, the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority, the Ndola City Council and the Zambia Bureau of Standards said: “Officers from the three institutions are on the ground to collect samples of the raw materials and of the finished product for analytical tests that will determine if there is any truth to the claims being made.
“The outcome of this investigation will be communicated to the public as soon as results are released,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the drink is being confiscated in Uganda while the manufacturers have denied claims that their product contains any drug for erectile dysfunction.
Sildenafil is known by most as Viagra. This little blue pill has greatly enhanced the quality of life of men suffering from erectile dysfunction. What many people do not know is that sildenafil can also be used to treat pulmonary hypertension, heart disease and altitude sickness. It is important to note that because of its mode of action, men who are taking nitrates should not use sildenafil.
Apart from large amounts of caffeine, most energy drinks contain added sugars; vitamins, such as
B vitamins; and legal stimulants, such as guarana, a plant that grows in the Amazon; taurine, an amino acid that’s naturally found in meat and fish; and L-carnitine, a substance in our bodies that helps turn fat into energy, reports the CNN.
Although energy drinks have become popular among people, the World Health Organisation has warned that excessive intake “may pose danger to public health.”
A team of researchers from the WHO have suggested several actions to minimize the potential for harm from energy drinks:
Establishing an upper limit for the amount of caffeine allowed in a single serving of this type of drinks in line with available scientific evidence;
Regulations to enforce restriction of labelling and sales of energy drinks to children and adolescents;
Enforcing standards for responsible marketing to young people by the energy drink industry;
Training health care practitioners to be aware of the risks and symptoms of energy drinks consumption;
Patients with a history of diet problems and substance abuse, both alone and combined with alcohol, should be screened for the heavy consumption of energy drinks;
Educating the public about the risks of mixing alcohol with energy drinks consumption;
Further research on the potential adverse effects of energy drinks, particularly on young people.

The story of Takyi, the Ghanaian king who led a slave rebellion in Jamaica in 1760 January 2019

Before finding himself as a slave, working hours on end and living in hard conditions on the Frontier plantation in Jamaica, Takyi was a Fanti king from Gold Coast, now modern Ghana.
There are no records of which group of Fantis he ruled over before becoming a slave but research indicates that he might have been the ruler of a settlement in Kommenda or Koromantse in the central region of Ghana. Takyi was also a wealthy merchant and slave trader himself until he was captured during the Kommender Wars and sold off into slavery when his state was defeated. In 1759, after years of toiling and suffering on the plantations, Takyi and his allies, Yaw, Sobadu and Kwarteng, who were also of Ghanaian descent, escaped into a cave far beyond their plantations to plan a rebellion.
They escaped during the day when everyone was occupied with work or at night and returning before daybreak. With full support from Queen Nanny, Takyi’s plan was to defeat the British and all slave masters and create Jamaica as a separate and independent black colony.
Known as Tacky’s War or the 1760 Easter Rebellion of Port Maria, the rebellion took place a year later to become the second largest and most shocking rebellion 30 years after Breffu led the Akwamus in the 1733 St John slave insurrection. The massive Akwamu revolt is considered one of the longest lasting rebellion recorded in the history of the Americas.
In May of 1760, Takyi and his followers started the revolt in the early hours of the morning, starting at the plantation where they worked, killing the owners and thus freeing all the slaves. The former slaves joined in the revolt immediately and a few run off to spread the word of the revolt on other plantations. With a good number of followers, they quickly made their way to Fort Haldane, where Takyi killed the storekeeper and instructed his men to pick up all the machines and gunpowder they could get.
According to oral history, Takyi and his slaves were strengthened and protected by the Obeah spiritual leaders, who had been labelled witchdoctors by the westerners in Jamaica. The British commanded the Maroons and their local army to fight Takyi and his men as well as kill any Obeah leader. The killing of an Obeah leader angered Takyi and his men, who by now had a strong army with close to 80 different groups and had taken control of a greater part of the land. Consequently, they killed several more plantation owners and white people before retreating into the bush to fight the Maroons sent by the white officials to stop the rebellion.
The rebellion lasted until July when Takyi was gunned down and killed. After he was shot, his head was cut and displayed in the centre of the town to indicate that the rebellion had been stopped and the freed slaves and Takyi’s army were now in danger.
Despite his death, Takyi’s military fought on hoping to realize his dream. Many slaves committed suicide to avoid capture and others were recaptured and sold off to different masters.
By the end of July 1760, the British had reinforced order and had conducted a mass unmarked burial for all the slaves killed during the war.A waterfall close to the cave where Takyi and his men planned the revolt was named Tacky Falls and is currently open to visitors. A school has also been named after the great enslaved Ghanian chief who led the rebellion.

UN Police Officer Phyllis Osei from Legendary Actor Ataa Mensah of UNSOM wins Female Peacekeeping "Showcase In Ga" Fame Dies At 91 Award
The annual United Nations Female Police Officer of the Year Award (formerly known as the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award), was presented today during a ceremony co-hosted by the United Nations Police Division of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations.
This year’s Award goes to UN Police Officer Ms. Phyllis Ama Tebuah Osei, from the United Nations Mission in Somalia (UNSOM). Ms. Osei, a Superintendent of Police from the Ghana Police Service, was selected for the Award as her policing work, directly and positively impacted the community and the host state police in Jubaland, Somalia.
Her contributions to enhancing the protection of women and girls, as well as her initiatives to promote women rights in the host state police, embody the spirit of the Award and embrace the values of international policing.
“It is an honour to work for UNSOM, where I assisted in strengthening activities on gender and child related issues,” says UN Police Officer Osei. “I also support the police in Jubaland on issues of Justice and Human Rights,” she added.
Officer Osei has been particularly successful at initiating an adult literacy training for 49 female police officers
in Jubaland. The training’s overall goal is to improve their literacy and increase their chances for future promotions. She also formed a Female Peacekeeper Network (FPN) within UNSOM and AMISOM to provide support to female peacekeepers. United Nations Police Adviser, Commissioner Luis Carrilho, praised the awardee for her exemplary conduct. “Ms. Osei was deployed to Somalia earlier this year in February 2018,” he said. “By April, she had already identified and trained two gender focal points in AMISOM who went onto mentor and advise police officers in the host state police, thereby contributing to the building of a much-needed capacity. Soon after, Ms. Osei established four gender desks in the host state police, facilitated a training on sexual and gender-based violence, and initiated a proposal that called for the establishment of a police post near the community thus ensuring access for SGBV survivors.” Mr. Carrilho explains that nominations are requested annually from all peacekeeping and special political missions where UN police are deployed. Based on criteria for high performance, a selection committee, comprising policing and peacekeeping experts, evaluate the conduct and achievements of the nominees with an emphasis on impact of policing service delivery. Burkina Faso's government and Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thieba stood down on Friday, according to a statement released by the country's president.
No explanation was given for the resignations, though sources told AFP President Roch Marc Christian Kabore wants to breathe new life into the leadership of the landlocked west African country, which is battling a rising wave of jihadist attacks and hostage-taking.
Canadian Edith Blais, 34, and her Italian partner Luca Tacchetto, 30, have been missing since mid-December, and late Wednesday a Canadian geologist kidnapped by suspected jihadists was found dead at a remote gold mine in the northeast.
"Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thieba submitted this afternoon his resignation as well as that of his government," the statement said.
"The president of Faso accepted the resignation" and expressed "all his gratitude to Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thieba and all its ministers for their commitment to the service of the nation," the statement added.
President Kabore chose experienced economist Thieba as prime minister in January 2016. However, in recent months several political opponents have been calling for his resignation and that of ministers in charge of security and defence.

Is 2019 the Year of Resolution or REVOLUTION
Dear readers, First and foremost, I would like to thank you for following and reading my articles. I take this opportunity to welcome you into the year 2019 and wish you the very best this year; a year full of extraordinary blessings. As most of you know, this forum allows me to share a wealth of information or resources with you concerning real estate. Since it is the beginning of the year, I feel compelled to ink something different that speaks to the heart of so many when a new year approaches. That’s New Year Resolution(s). The question then become, do we resolute or revolute when a New Year approaches. The Oxford Dictionary defines Resolution as “a firm decision to do or not to do something, whilst a Revolution is a forcible overthrow of something in favor of a new system.” I prefer and recommend the later. This is a year of Revolution. Typically, when a new year reigns in, we make promises to ourselves as to what we “should" do, or what we should stop doing or what other people suggest we should work on. The focus should rather be what YOU really want to do or actually what YOU want to achieve. Is not about anybody else, but YOU. To be successful in executing the new changes you want to make for the New Year, it requires a lot of commitment and motivating yourself. Here are some simple techniques to implement to make the goals a reality. Rule 1: Commit to Your Revolution Choose revolutions that you really want to achieve – and make them positive. The goal should be simply REASONABLE—a very small goal to easily attain. Announce your revolution to everyone around you – they will help hold you accountable. • Ask yourself; is this revolution my idea or someone else's? Does this revolution motivate and invigorate me?
• Does this revolution sit comfortably with other factors in your life, such as my values and long-term plans? Rule 2: Be Realistic This simply implies that; making sure the goal is in small increments, so that you can definitely attain it. Do not revolute to do something too big and probably out of reach. It can overkill the purpose and mission you’ve set your path on. Rule 3: Make the Revolution Stick This means reciting your revolution to yourself, meditating on it and finding ways to make it work daily. Last but not the least, the most common revolution for most people are to improve health and finances. If you plan on a quality health life, it starts by making small changes in portions of intakes. It is not recommended to do a drastic change, do it slowly in small portions day by day. If you plan on financial health it is also highly recommended you take steps to review your monthly bills such as Cable, Cell phone, Insurance, etc…. Take time to shop around and compare what competitors in the market are offering to save you money. Making these changes would position you to experience a revolution this year 2017. Former South Africa Striker Phil Masinga Dies at 49

Former South Africa captain Lucas Radebe says the country has lost a “legend” following his compatriot Phil Masinga’s death aged 49. Masinga played with Radebe at Leeds United between 1994 and 1996 and also had spells at St. Gallen in Switzerland and Italian clubs Salernitana and Bari.
“He lost his fight against cancer this morning which is very, very sad for us as a football fraternity,” said Radebe.
“We are mourning the loss of a great legend.”
Former central defender Radebe and striker Masinga were both signed by Leeds in 1994.
“For us, as Africans it was a great experience,” added Radebe, speaking to BBC World Service. “We weren’t used to the weather and we struggled a little bit – we kept each other warm at times.
Masinga made his debut for South Africa in July 1992 against Cameroon in his country’s first match following their readmission to international football by Fifa after the end of Apartheid.
He will best be remembered for his goal against Congo, which ensured South Africa qualified for their first World Cup appearance in 1998. “Very sad news for South African football. We lost a true football legend in Phil ‘Chippa’ Masinga,” said former South Africa and Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar.
“He paved the way for all South African footballers in the UK. That goal at FNB stadium that took us to our first World Cup will always be on my mind. RIP Legend.”

Dr. Trebi-Ollennu builds robotic components for planetary exploration, a dream that began as a young child in Ghana. He is in charge of the InSight mission’s robotic arm and hand. Born in Ghana, Dr Trebi-Ollennu has been working at NASA since 1999 and has risen to become the Chief Engineer of Robotics at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. After completing his secondarty education, he moved to the United Kingdom where he had his Bachelors in Engineering (B.Eng.) in Avionics at Queen Mary College, University of London in 1991.
Dr Trebi-Ollennu is also the founder of the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation that won the prestigious Google RISE Award 2013. The academy is dedicated to motivating and inspiring young Ghanaians interest and participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education through hands-on robotics workshops and competitions.

Israel's PM Netanyahu signs deals with Chad's President Deby
Chad President Idriss Deby (right) welcomed Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Chad and Israel have renewed diplomatic ties in what Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described as "a partnership... to forge a prosperous and secure future for our countries".
His comments came during a brief visit to Chad where he was welcomed by President Idriss Deby. In recent years, Israel has made a big effort to improve diplomatic relations with several African countries. Chad, which has a majority Muslim population, cut ties in 1972.
Mr Netanyahu's visit reciprocates President Deby's trip to Israel last November, the first by a Chadian leader.
In addition to renewing diplomatic ties the two leaders signed several agreements, Mr Deby told a joint press conference, but did not say what those deals were. "The purpose of your visit is to bring our two countries closer and to cooperate," he told Mr Neytanyahu, the Haaretz newspaper reports.
Chad is interested in "security, intelligence, technology and a pathway to Washington", writes Jerusalem Post diplomatic correspondent Herb Keinon.
For his part, the Israeli prime minister is trying to separate the peace process with the Palestinians from relations with majority-Muslim countries, Mr Keinon adds. Way before Columbus, ancient Malians sailed to the Americas in 1311
Although it is now widely accepted that Columbus did not discover the Americas when he landed in the Caribbean in 1492, as there were Native Americans watching him from the continents’ shores, a more contested history of explorers who went to America continues to rear its head and cause fierce debates in many circles. According to a number of sources, Abubakari II, Mansa (King) of the Mali Empire in the 14th century, led Malian sailors to the Americas, specifically present-day Brazil, almost 200 years before Columbus arrived. Abubakari II ruled what was arguably the richest and largest empire on earth – covering nearly all of West Africa. BBC writing on ‘The Saga of Abubakari II…he left with 2000 boats’ by Malian scholar, Gaoussou Diawara, notes:
Abubakari wanted to find out whether the Atlantic Ocean – like the great River Niger that swept through Mali – had another ‘bank’. He had traveled extensively throughout and outside of the African continent, already owning most of the continent. His predecessor and uncle, Soundjata Keita, had already founded the Mali empire and conquered a good stretch of the Sahara Desert and the great forests along the West African coast”.
African-Guyanese historian Ivan Van Sertima, writing on the testimony of Emperor Kanku Musa recorded by the Arab Ibn Amir Hajib and transcribed by Al Omari in the 14th century in Egypt during the pilgrimage of Musa, and on the description of the empire of Mali made by Ibn Battuta in the 14th century, explained:
Lured by exploration, Abubakari II called engineers of the Lake Chad who were known to build ships like their Egyptian ancestors and studied all the ships on the rivers Djoliba (Niger) and Senegal to help him launch a massive fleet across the ocean.
He also hired a large and diverse crew of sailors, traders, builders, artists, warriors, and learned men, and supplied them with enough rations to last two years. The fleet then went across the great western ocean, relying on a unique system of drum communication.
When only one ship returned with a lone captain, telling the king “that after several days on the sea, the ships were sucked up by a sort of river with a powerful flow on the ocean and all the ships disappeared at the horizon”, Abubakari decided to sent off on the journey himself.
Abubakari II handed his throne to his brother, Kankou Moussa, and set off on an expedition into the unknown in 1311.
“The emperor gave up all power and gold to pursue knowledge and discovery,” historians say.
His brother, Kankou Moussa, popularly known as Mansa Musa, would become the richest man in all of history. Some historians say nothing was heard from or of Abubakari II after and for this reason, some posit that Malians did not sail to the Americas during this time.

But others say Abubakari II’s expedition is what helped Mansa Musa become as rich as he is. One site says on Abubakari II’s arrival in Brazil:
“He decides instead that he will journey across the ocean to rule this new land he calls “Boure Bambouk”, after the richest goldfields of Mali.
The third year in the fledgling colony of Boure Bambouk, the first under the direction of Abubakari II, sees its highs and lows. Abubakari establishes the first diplomatic contacts with the curious Tupi tribes of the region, encouraging trade with them. Through this trade, the colonists of Boure Bambouk are first acquainted with New World crops, including corn, beans, peanuts, tobacco, cotton, and tropical fruits. Such agricultural commodities will allow the colony to become self-sustaining. Likewise, Old World livestock, such as cattle, sheep, and guinea fowl, are first introduced to the Tupi, as are cereal grains like rice, millet, and sorghum.
In 1314, Abubakari sends a boat back to Mali to petition his brother for more support. Mansa Musa is impressed by the new crops presented to him, and garners more settlers and aid to send to Boure Bambouk. Thus begins a back-and-forth exchange of Bamboukian goods in return for Malian assistance. Agriculture of corn, beans, peanuts, peppers, and cotton will set off a population explosion in Mali, that will provide future settlers from across the sea.”
Although not all historians agree that there was evidence of Abubakari II’s journey and landing in the Americas, many do agree that there may have been Black African presence in the Americas way before Columbus.
Tiemoko Konate, head of the project tracing Abubakari II’s journeys told BBC, that Columbus, himself, said he found black traders already present in the Americas. Moreover, chemical analyses of gold tips that Columbus found on spears in America show that the gold probably came from West Africa.
Some say that beyond Columbus, evidence of African contributions to American civilization includes “importing the art of pyramid building, political systems and religious practices as well as mathematics, writing and a sophisticated calendar”.
Van Sertima cites the Aztec divinity Quetzalcoatl who is sometimes represented in Mexico as a Black man with a beard, dressed in white, who arrived 6 cycles after the last man who came from the foreign lands. Others also say the presence of stones heads with ‘African features’ of the ancient Olmec Civilization in South America, prior to the Aztecs and Mayans, is even more proof. With mounting evidence to suggest of African presence in the Americas before Columbus, it may be fair to say that Africa’s relationship with the Americas did not start with slavery. The Faithful Servants Awards, a project initiated in the United States to honour great police officers for their honesty and integrity, has honoured Mr David Asante-Apeatu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, Deputy IGP, received the award on behalf of the IGP.
The Faithful Servants Awards was initiated by the Divine Word International Ministry (DWIM), led by its Founder, Bishop Kofi Adonteng Boateng, of Northern Virginia, USA, in collaboration with police forces of the area, to recognise their great works.
Mr Asante-Apeatu was recognised for his commitment of fostering honesty and integrity in the Ghana Police Service.
As part of the award ceremony Sergeant Felix Kwaku Tefe, a Police Officer at the Tesano Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who was captured on video for refusing bribe from a driver whiles on duty, was also recognised.
Mr Moro Yaro, a journalist with UTV, who reported on the incident, was also honoured.

Bishop Boateng expressed the hope that these traits, coupled with the investment government was making, would provide a safe environment for all. He said Sergeant Tefe showed integrity and dedication by putting the country first as against his personal interest.
“If others could emulate this example, I believe Ghana will advance."
Mr Oppong-Boanuh, on his part, expressed gratitude to Bishop Boateng and the entire delegation for recognising the IGP’s efforts to foster honesty and integrity in the Ghana Police Service.

Mr Oppong-Boanuh said the Police Service, with a population of 33,000 and being a human institution, might not have everyone being as professional as one would expect.
The transformational agenda, which had been introduced by the IGP, would help reform the training regimes to re-orient the officers to perform better, he said.
He appealed to officers of the MTTD to emulate the example of Sergeant Tefe adding that policing was a shared responsibility and called for community support.
