Benin's former President Mathieu Kerekou, the man hailed as helping to usher in multi-party democracy in Africa, has died at the age of 82. Mr Kerekou had two spells as president totalling nearly 30 years, first coming to power as the head of a Marxist regime in 1972. But he then accepted the idea of multi-party democracy and organised elections, which he lost in 1991. He became the first West African leader to admit defeat in an election.
The peaceful transfer of power in Benin in 1991 showed people in the region that a change of president can be achieved without violence. The 1991 election was followed closely in West Africa and Mathieu Kerekou's willingness to step down - becoming the first regional leader to accept defeat at the ballot box - was welcomed. His ideological shift, from hardline MarxistLeninist to believing in multi-party elections, was in part due to the poor state of Benin's economy at the end of the 1980s, but also because of a change in global politics as the Cold War came to an end. A speech in 1990 by then French President
Francois Mitterrand to African leaders calling for an opening up of democracy on the continent also had a big impact. Mr Kerekou responded to this call and is remembered with pride in Benin as the one who ushered in a new era in West Africa. Mr Kerekou abandoned Marxism-Leninism as Benin's official ideology in December 1989. He was under pressure because of the difficult economic situation and faced a series of protests. He stepped down in 1991 after losing to Nicephore Soglo in a multi-party poll, but returned to power in 1996 having beaten Mr Soglo at the polls and then went on to win a second and final five-year term in 2001. Current President Thomas Boni Yayih described tthe Former president as a great man and declared a week of official mourning.

October 2015 Page 6
Linda Agyapong Honored as Project Management Institute 2015 Professional Award Winner
A woman who dramatically gave birth on a plane headed to the United States of America has been sent back home.
The Taiwanese woman was on an China Airlines flight from Taipei to Los Angeles. She allegedly lied about the stage of pregnancy when asked by airline officials before boarding the flight.
She went into labour and eventually gave birth with the assistance of a doctor on board and flight attendants. Her on-board labour and delivery led the plane to be diverted to Alaska so she and the baby could get medical treatment.
Due to the fact that her child was born while she was over US airspace, her child has been granted US Citizenship. The woman was allegedly “desperate” to give birth in the USA. According to Chinese News Website – china.com.cn, She allegedly refused to lie flat to give birth and kept asking “are we in America yet?“.
She has been sent back to her home country, Taiwan for US Immigration violations. Details of which remain sketchy but it is speculated that she got her visa using false declarations. It is legal for non-citizens to give birth in the USA. However, intending mothers need to prove financial capability and truthfully declare intentions.
Her baby is currently in the USA with family members as the baby is too young to fly.
In addition, the airline plans to seek damages from the woman for the additional costs incurred due to the diversion especially considering that she lied about the date of her birth.

Top 10 Africa’s Most Powerful Passports best access to the world, sitting in 28th position worldwide.
2. Mauritius – No Visa Required in 125 Countries
More than a SIMPLEgrant of access to country, passports and the visas stamped on them are a reflection of geopolitics – the relationship between two nations and a country’s stature relative to the rest of the world. An infographic recently released by Good Magazine ranking the most powerful passports in the world has listed the Mauritian passport – which grants access without a visa or by receiving one upon entry to 123 countries – as the second strongest passport in Africa after Seychelles.
3. South Africa – No Visa Required in 94 Countries
While all passports around the world may roughly be the same size at 125 mm × 88 mm – its power ultimately boils down to whether or not you need a visa to visit certain countries or not. Seychelles is the African country whose citizens have the most freedom to visit other countries around the globe, while Eritrean passport holders have the hardest time travelling. A new infographic, designed by Rosie Spinks for GOOD magazine, ranks countries according to the number of places their passports can enter either without a visa, or with a visa on arrival. The research shows that passport holders from Seychelles can visit 126 countries without having to apply for a visa. Mauritius, South Africa and Botswana are the African countries ranked in second, third and fourth places respectively. Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, features in joint 33rd position. Globally, passports from Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom are the most powerful, allowing citizens easy access to 173 countries. Afghanistan is the lowest ranked country. Strict visa requirements between African countries have been blamed for holding back economic growth. “Africa is one of the regions in the world with the highest visa requirements. Visa restrictions imply missed economic opportunities for intra-regional trade and for the local service economy such as tourism, cross-country medical services or education”, said Mthuli Ncube, chief economist and vice-president of the African Development Bank, during a conference last year. Note: The original infographic doesn’t include Liberia or Somalia, and both the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of the Congo are referred to as “Congo.
1. Seychelles- No visa required in 129 Countries
Many of us can only dream about the freedom to travel without any visa restrictions and while South Africans enjoy one of the widest ranges of visa-free travel options on the African continent – with its visa-free access extending to 97 of the world’s 194 countries – the slow progress in the approval of something like a Uni-visa for southern African Development Community (SADC) Countries only serves to add more pipe than pleasure. The South African passport is the 3rd most powerful passport.
4. Botswana – No visa required in 73 Countries
The fourth most powerful African passport is that held by citizens of Botswana, which is ranked 58th in the Index. However, the Botswana passport only offers visa-free entry to 73 countries, which makes it 57% poorer in terms of access than the five highestranked passports: citizens of Finland, Sweden, the UK, Germany and the United States are able to travel visa-free to 174 destinations around the globe.
5. Gambia – No visa required in 68 countries
The Gambia has the fifth most powerful passport in Africa. The Gambian passport allows holders to visit 68 countries without having to go through the tedium of obtaining an entry clearance visa. Ooni of Ife: New Yoruba king named in Nigeria
8
A 40-year-old accountant has been named the new Ooni of Ife - a revered monarch in south-west Nigeria.
Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi is the new king, one of the most influential among the Yoruba people, Nigeria's second biggest ethnic group, who number about 35 million in West Africa. He is a prince from one of the ruling houses in the Ife kingdom. The previous Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuwade, died in a London clinic in July aged 85. Mr Ogunwusi was selected from 21 candidates who included his older brother. The BBC's Chris Ewokor in Abuja says the selection criteria have not been made public.
Traditionally, kingmakers from within the family choose the Ooni of Ife from descendents of the Yoruba god Oduduwa in consultation with their oracle, known as Ifa. Mr Ogunwusi will be one of the youngest traditional rulers in Nigeria, our reporter says.
Ooni of Ife: The Ooni of Ife's kingdom is in present-day Osun state in south-west Nigeria The monarch should be a direct descendant of Oduduwa, who is a Yoruba god The practice of burying someone alive with a king who dies has long been abolished.

Eritrea Footballers 'gain Botswana Asylum' After World Cup Qualifier
Botswana has granted asylum to 10 Eritrean footballers who refused to return home after a World Cup qualifying match, their lawyer says. Dick Barford said he had been informed of the decision by Botswana's secretary for justice, defence and security, Augustine Makgonatsotlhe. Eritrea's footballers played the national team in Botswana on 13 October, losing the game 3-1. Many Eritrean footballers have claimed asylum recently after playing
abroad. Six players claimed asylum in Angola in 2007, 12 in Kenya in 2009, and another 18 in Uganda in 2012. A report by the UN human rights council in June accused the Eritrean government of systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations. The situation has prompted hundreds of thousands of people to flee the country, the report said. Eritrea has denied committing human rights abuses and says those leaving the country are economic migrants.
Ouattara Wins Cote d'Ivoire's Vote in Landslide
Ivorian President Ouattara has been re-elected for a second fiveyear term in office. The 73-year-old incumbent garnered almost 84 percent of the vote. He commended his countrymen on the peaceful, transparent polls.
Ivory Coast's electoral commission announced Wednesday that President Alassane Ouattara had won 83.6 percent of the vote. He needed more than 50 percent to avoid a runoff.
The second-place rival, opposition candidate Pascal Affi N'Guessan, got 9 percent.
The vote, which took place on Sunday , was reported as peaceful and transparent by international observers, which was news sure to give confidence to investors in the world's top cocoa grower. The Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) also put voter turnout somewhere around 54 percent, allaying fears that voters would avoid the polls .

Ethiopia Experiencing 'Worst Drought in 30 Years' Due to El Ni単o Conditions - UN Report
Ethiopia is experiencing its worst drought in 30 years according to the United Nations, with levels of acute need across all humanitarian sectors having already exceeded levels seen in the Horn of Africa drought of 2011, and which are projected to become far more severe in 2016.
A recent report published by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted that the impact of the failed spring rains was compounded by the arrival of the El Ni単o weather conditions that weakened summer rains, which feed 80 to 85 per cent of the country."This greatly expanded food insecurity, malnutrition and devastated livelihoods across six affected regions of the country," OCHA indicated.
Meanwhile, the water level of Wabishabelle River, in Somali region, has
reportedly been rising since the past week following El Ni単o-caused heavy rains in the surrounding highlands, and in East and West Imy woredas of Shabelle zone.
OCHA recalled that last week, the river broke its banks in East Imy woreda causing communities along the river bank to be engulfed by water. According to the Somali region Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Bureau, 700 households from Diray kebele, East Imy woreda are taking refuge in East Imy town. The Government and partners are monitoring the situation to identify intervention needs.
At the same time, local authorities in Mustahil and Kelafo woredas of Shabelle zone, which are administrative divisions affected by recurrent drought, were alerted about the rising river level. OCHA said mass community awareness will be conducted ahead of the floods in order to mitigate their impact. In addition, the National Flood Taskforce is currently preparing flood contingency plans for all at-risk areas in the country.

Italy's First Black Minister: I Had Bananas Thrown At Me But I'm Here To Stay pared her to an orangutan before bananas were lobbed at her as she made a speech.
To top a vituperative summer, a rightwing deputy mayor in Liguria compared Kyenge on his Facebook page to the prostitutes – often African – who line a local road, while a well-known Italian winemaker, Fulvio Bressan, shocked wine lovers by reportedly calling Kyenge a "dirty black monkey".
It has been a tough reception for a woman who moved to Italy to work as a home help while she trained to become an ophthalmologist, marrying an Italian man and plunging into local politics in Modena to push for greater rights for immigrants before winning a seat in parliament in February.
Cécile Kyenge pushed for greater rights for immigrants before winning a seat in the Italian parliament in February. Photograph: Nick Cornish/Rex Features Tom Kington in Rome Saturday 7 September 2013 19.06 EDT Last modified on Wednesday 21 May 2014 23.51 EDT
Three mannequins stained with fake blood were dumped last week outside a town hall where Cécile Kyenge was due to make a speech, the latest in a stream of racist protests and insults aimed by furious Italians at the country's first black government minister.
After being likened to an orangutan by a former government minister and having bananas thrown at her while on a podium, it is getting tougher for Congoborn Kyenge, 49, to keep up her oft-repeated mantra that Italy is a tolerant country – but she is trying hard.
"I have never said Italy is racist, every country needs to start building awareness of immigration and Italy has simply arrived very late," she said on the day the mannequins were discovered.
Judging by the venom directed at Kyenge since she was named minister for integration in April, Italy needs to do some fast catching up as the ranks of foreign residents in the country swell to around four million, about 7% of the population.
But from her office in Rome, Kyenge insisted that children growing up in Italy's burgeoning melting pot are free from the prejudices of their parents. "It's easier for the young who have grown up with a different mentality, who have come across people from other places," she said. "If you ask a child in a class who is their friend, it is more likely he will say 'the one with the green jumper' rather than 'the black one'."
That is not quite how Forza Nuova, the far-right party that left the Ku Klux Klan-style mannequins at the town hall, sees things. Kyenge's work on behalf of immigrants, said party member Pablo de Luca, was aimed at "the destruction of the national identity".
Such views are keenly shared by members of the Northern League, Italy's antiimmigrant party, which propped up Silvio Berlusconi's government until it collapsed in 2011.
MEP Mario Borghezio set the ball rolling in May by claiming that Kyenge would impose "tribal conditions" on Italy and help form a "bongo-bongo" administration. Africans, he added for good measure, had "not produced great genes".
In June, a local councillor for the party called for Kyenge to be raped, while in July Roberto Calderoli, a party member and former Berlusconi minister, com-
"When I arrived in 1983, I was one of the few; I was a curiosity. Then, in the 1990s, when mass immigration started, immigrants began to be seen as a threat," she said, recalling patients who had refused to be visited by her. "The process needed to be accompanied by more information in the media, in schools, better laws."
A shock survey in 2008 found that when people were asked who they found "barely likeable or not likeable at all", 81% of Italians mentioned Gypsies, 61% said Arabs, 64% said Romanians and 74% opted for Albanians. Then came the crippling economic downturn, which sliced 15% off Italy's manufacturing sector, pushed the unemployment rate up to 12% and further hardened perceptions of "job-stealing" migrants.
What is really upsetting the Northern League is Kyenge's work to overhaul Italy's citizenship law, which currently forces the children of migrants born in Italy to wait until they are 18 before they can apply to become Italians, leaving a generation of children growing up feeling like Italians, talking local dialects like Italians, but unable to be Italian.
It has been dubbed the "Balotelli generation", after black footballer Mario Balotelli – who was born to Ghanaian parents in Sicily and is now a mainstay in the Italian national team, but has faced stadium chants of "a negro cannot be Italian".
Kyenge points out that she is not pushing for a US-style law that hands a passport to anyone born in the country, but for a toned-down version that would require the child's parents to have spent some time in Italy or to have taken integration courses.
Meanwhile, she has backed new measures simplifying the bureaucratic nightmare faced by the children of immigrants, who have one year to complete a blizzard of paperwork needed to gain a passport when they turn 18. "You have from the age of 18 to 19 to apply and requests are often turned down due to a few missing documents," she said.
It is just part of an ambitious programme to which the soft-spoken Kyenge has committed herself, stretching from working on housing issues for nomad families to inter-religious dialogue designed to make it easier for Italians to adopt overseas.
Page
Her key task, she said, is convincing a country that has no shortage of culture – from its food to its art – that there is always room for more. "Diversity, sharing something you don't have, offers a huge amount," she said.
Turning to her own field, medicine, she said: "There are small examples of foreign customs which are being adopted by hospitals, like carrying your baby on your back, which can help children with ankle ailments as well as increasing physical contact with the parent while helping the posture of the parent."
Critics have rounded on the fact that Kyenge's father was polygamous, fathering 38 children by numerous wives, a custom she said she would not trying to encourage in Italy. "Let's be clear," she said, laughing, "this is a form of marriage I don't agree with."
Rather than threatening Italian traditions, Kyenge said the asylum-seekers now heading for Italy from sub-Saharan Africa and Syria could be taught to revive trades now being abandoned by Italians, especially if they were allowed to set up shop in the medieval hilltop villages that are rapidly being abandoned up and down the country.
Take, for example, the Calabrian town of Riace, which has reversed depopulation by welcoming the migrants landing on rickety boats after a perilous Mediterranean crossing and setting them up in trades such as dressmaking, joinery, pottery or glass-blowing.
"This is a good practice, using depopulated villages where there are many empty houses, where old farms, shops and workshops can be reopened," said Kyenge, who visited Riace in August. "It offers a welcome to migrants, it's good for the national economy and good for saving trades that risk disappearing."
Back in Rome, as she works to get her message across, Kyenge is getting ready to dodge the next bunch of bananas as she continues to insist that Italy is not a racist country, just learning fast.
"Balotelli and I are both opening new paths in our fields," she said, "and anyone who does that will face huge difficulties." http://www.theguardian.com/

21-Year-Old Nigerian Student Louise Jaiyeola Oduyoye Develops Emergency Power Backup For Surgeons Called Neva

Jelani Aliyu, hails from Sokoto State, Nigeria and is General Motors Lead Exterior Designer and the designer of the Chevy Volt. General Motors is the world’s largest automobile maker. The car has been described as an American Revolution and one of the hottest concepts in the design line.
Jelani was born in 1966 in Kaduna, to Alhaji Aliya Haidara and Sharifiya Hauwa’u Aliyu. The fifth of seven children, theirs is a very close-knit family. For him, it was an amazing experience growing up in Sokoto, surrounded by the rich culture of the people and the state and enjoying excellent access to the latest and international information. From 1971 to 1978, he attended Capital School, Sokoto, an excellent school and this served as a very productive educational experience for him. In 1978, he gained admission into Federal Government College, Sokoto, from where he graduated in 1983 with an award as the best in Technical Drawing.
Jelani was privileged to meet and make many good friends from all parts of the country and beyond during this time. He had tremendous encouragement and mentoring from his family and friends and his creative art develop the ed. He drew a lot, designed his own cars, and even built scale models of them, complete with exteriors and interiors.
After FGC, he got admission into the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to study Architecture, but soon discovered that curriculum did not support his future vision and plans.
After considering other institutions in Nigeria and their academic programmes, he concluded that only one of them had the study criteria that would support his future goals. The institution in which he chose to pursue his education was one he felt offered the best creative programmes and had experience that would give him the best foundation required to study Automobile Design abroad. That institution was the Birnin Kebbi Polytechnic. He was there from 1986 to 1988 and earned an associate degree in Architecture, with an award as Best All-Round Student. While there, he did some in depth research into home design and construction, looking into materials and structures that would be most compatible with our environment and climate; buildings that would stay cool in a hot environment with little, or no artificial electrical air conditioning. Upon graduation from the polytechnic, Jelani worked for a while at the Ministry of Works, Sokoto.
In 1990, Aliyu moved to Detroit, Michigan to enroll at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit under a Sokoto Schorlarship board sponsorship. Having always wanted to study Automobile Design, this was a dream come true and an absolutely fascinating experience. The course was very practical and emphasis was put on creativity and the development of new designs to provide solutions . He received his degree in automobile design in 1994.
In 1994 he began his career with the design staff of General Motors. He worked on the Buick Rendezvous and was the lead exterior designer of the Pontiac G6. He also worked on the Astra with General Motors’ Opel Division.
With his brilliant work on the design of the Chevrolet Volt, which was unveiled in 2007, Jelani Aliyu is considered by many to be the super star of the General Motors renaissance.

Prior to recent developments, electricity has always been one of the major issues we face in Nigeria – an issue which affects all industries and hospitals are not exempted from this. I can’t imagine what will happen if there is a power outage while surgeons are in the middle of an operation. I could go on and on about how unpalatable the issue is but that’s not what this post is about…. This post bears encouraging news about a female Nigerian student studying at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom who developed a device to help in the event of a power outage in an operating room. 21 year-old Louise Jaiyeola Oduyoye developed a mobile medical battery called Neva which provides backup electricity to surgical theatres. The device is rather similar to the regular UPS (uninterruptible power supply) but is more dynamic in that it can be adapted to advanced situations. Neva contains replaceable lithium ion battery packs with enough power output to power critical machines during surgeries and reduce the risks associated with power outages. Louise Jaiyeola Oduyoye is a Mechanical Engineering student at Loughborough University where she is pursuing her Master’s degree. Neva was a product of her completion of the requirements for obtaining her first degree in Product Design Engineering at the University of Derby. In a comment about her invention, Louise said Neva was “developed for countries that have difficulty accessing uninterrupted power supplies so they can perform these surgeries in-country rather than fly people out.” We can only hope Neva will be produced en masse and will be made available to hospitals in developing countries to help save millions of lives. Kumasi Academy Old Students Association, (Akunini) North America Host First Fundraising & Dinner Dance October
A model of An ultra-modern science laboratory block for Kumasi Academy The Kumasi Academy Old Students’ Association of North America has organised the first fundraising dinner dance at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, VirginiaUSA.
The objective of the fundraising is to build a multi-purpose science laboratory to mark the school's 60th anniversary in 2017.
The event was attended by old students from as far back as the mid 60s to the new millennium, as well as affiliates of the school. The chairperson of the occasion in the person of Mr. Anokye Poku of the pioneering class of the school warmly welcomed everybody to the event and laid down the objective for the gathering.
In his address he shared a recollection some of the great memories of his days and encouraged all guests to contribute generously to help build the science lab by 2017. Also in attendance was the President of the Association in Ghana, Dr. Kwabena Dapaah Siakwan. In his keynote address and presentation, he showed several of images depicting the progress of the project and ongoing activities at the construction site. According to Dr. Dapaah, the initial part of the project (foundation and ground filling) which is usually the most difficult, is nearing completion.
He indicated that a couple of old students have pledged to bear the cost of the ceiling and the roofing once the project gets to that level; and therefore urged all guests at the gathering to contribute towards the project which he considers very feasible. He also pleaded with all students in other countries to organize themselves, especially at the year group levels to mobilize funds to support the project.
The fundraising ceremony was conducted by Pastor Ebenezer Doku, an old student who is currently based in New York. He was helped by Esi Mansa Addo of the 1994 year group who is also based in Maryland. The pair entertained guests to a lively event which witnessed generous contributions to support the science lab project. Following the fundraising activity was an open dance floor for all guests to enjoy and dance to great music to climax the occasion.
The team is also considering organizing the next fundraising in New York and urges all to join in the campaign. Follow the them on facebook, Kumasi Academy (AkuniniKAPSA).

Afrikan Post
Dr. Miriam C. Gyimah
When many married couples find themselves at a brick wall which divides them at every turn and possible conflicting areas within their lives, they seek a divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. They come to determine that there is no possible way they can continue their union harmoniously because they are simply of different minds, separate agendas and singular goals. So they submit to a court and judge to separate them permanently. In the same way, we Christians have to realize in the most practical ways that the offerings of the world are irreconcilable to those of the Spirit and we should separate ourselves from them. Indeed, there are irreconcilable differences that can separate personalities where experience teaches that one person must take the left road because the other, inevitably, will take the right. This thought holds true for the larger world as created by God and yet ruled by the prince of darkness. However, too often, it appears that too many of those claiming to be of the kingdom world, that is the world under our Creator and Maker, God Himself, somehow do not and cannot see these irreconcilable differences and therefore cannot tear themselves away from the carnal world. And that inability or reluctance to separate oneself from the opposite world compromises one’s life and can ultimately make them a casualty. Roman’s chapter eight tells us that through salvation, we have been set apart from the flesh and as a result, we should not walk in the flesh, but in the Spirit, that is the Holy Spirit of God. Furthermore, we learn that “those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God” (verses 5-8). Whatever the flesh desires is in opposition to the Spirit while whatever the Spirit wants is also in conflict with the flesh; keep in mind that the flesh represents Satan. The flesh and Spirit do not operate in compromise; they cannot. They are mutually exclusive. The Spirit yields to the things of God. The flesh to the things of the world and consequently death. They are irreconcilable. As Christians, we have been informed, warned and we have been charged to follow the path of the Holy Spirit who directs as well as protects us. If we say we are going to call ourselves children of the Most High God, a God who is holy and tells us to be holy because He is holy (I Peter 1:16), then we have to know and understand that there must be a line of demarcation between us, who have vowed and claim to follow the Spirit, and those who choose to follow the flesh. But how is it that even as we are informed and taught by the Good Book, we still dabble in, or, for some, rest at the site of the flesh? How do we reconcile these two separate paths and choices when it has been clearly demonstrated in Romans and other parts of our instructional manual, The Bible, that we cannot and must not, for we must be hot or we must be cold, because there is no place in God’s kingdom for the lukewarm? Because as God Himself says, He will spit the lukewarm out of His mouth (Revelations 3:16).
Irreconcilable Differences Her Page
I am asking these questions because I grapple with them in part because of my own shortcomings and also because of my fellow believers’ state of mind and spirit, and sometimes their outward reveling in the things of the flesh, which run contrary to what we are supposed to stand for. What do I mean? What I mean is that far too many of us are not living the life we are called to live and we seem not to see anything wrong with the state of our spiritual lives. A practical example is, why is it permissible for Christians to make as part of their weekly and even daily staple the questionable and highly conflicting offerings from television entertainment? Why is it okay for Christians to anticipate excitedly programs like “Scandal,” “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Empire” and then chit chat about them as if they were the best things in the world, as if they were made for us, as if they are there to uplift us and reinforce our spiritual lives and consciousness? These shows, although great hits and historic television, because they deal with African American persons as powerful and complex lead characters, are nevertheless fraught with sinful and demoralizing subjects and acts which are in fact made a celebrated and applauded fascination. These shows and many like them (whether it is “Game of Thrones,” “Girls” “Orange is the New Black” and other such dramas or comedies) offer a smorgasbord of hatred, deceit, fornication, adultery, lasciviousness, covetousness, murder, homosexuality and more. Yes, they are good drama and that makes for great television, but can Christians afford to forego the needs and the yearnings of the Spirit and be doused or even immersed in these things, these works of the flesh? Of course I understand that it is entertainment and having been a drama student all through high school and even college, I value the dramatic arts, but is this the sort of food that we should be ingesting into our souls and consciousness week after week after week? It is entertainment, but it is not harmless entertainment. It is demoralizing and distressing to our souls and a weight on our own spirits. And the truth is if you don’t feel a weight on your soul and uncleanness in your spirit when and after viewing these shows, then in actuality not only are you out of tune with your spirit, but you are clearly out of step and focus with the Holy Spirit as well. Please note I said earlier that sometimes I have to deal with my own shortcomings regarding some of these issues, because as a former drama student and an English and Literature major, I love the skill and talent of acting. It is an artistic and wonderful means to communicate, connect with and impact others by tapping into their hearts and souls. I love a well-written dramatic novel, play and screenplay, so I like to sit and enjoy a good show or two, but how do I reconcile the flaunting, promotion, celebration and even agenda of many of these writers, actors, directors and producers whose intent with their work is very clear – to make it the normal – to draw us to their way of thinking – to cause us to understand, sympathize and accept their lifestyles, to desensitize us to the things of the flesh? How can we as Christians reconcile the requirements of the Spirit by pleasuring ourselves with these works of the flesh when they are irreconcilable to the things we say we are about? It appears we have forgotten that the Bible tells us we are in the world, but not of the world (John 17:14). It seems we are letting our carnal selves take the lead as we desire to be a part of the larger world, to be up-to-date with the rest of society, particularly the glamorized world of entertainment and stardom. Thus, because the members of our bodies such as our ears, eyes and the literal flesh yearn, crave with interest and is inquisitive about these things, because we are somehow more interested in proving that we are not living under rocks but that we are a part of popular culture, instead of cutting off the arm that steals, instead of plucking out that offending beam in our eyes, instead of simply separating ourselves from these sinful television phenomena by opting for better and more wholesome programs, or better yet, sim-

ply turning off the television, we choose to stay in this state and open our souls and minds to the things of the world. In so doing, we are grieving our spirits, not to mention the Holy Spirit of God. Again, in so doing, we are opening our lives and homes to the glamorization of sin, and the enemy takes spiritual control even as he utilizes these things to make us ineffective Christians, even as he manipulates them as tools to enter our spirit realm through dreams and other vices. Unfortunately, this is where too many Christians find themselves. We have been weakened spiritually because we ignore and even abandon the things of the Spirit and we have become desensitized and even impotent. We don’t even realize that we are in fact living in sin, a passive and very active sin and that we are abiding in the world because we are allowing the flesh to lead us. Truly, the fact is that when even respected preachers, apostles and bishops reference these shows as if it is a good thing, as if watching them is engaging in a good pastime, we are in trouble. A few months back, I was watching one of my favorite televangelist, Bishop T.D. Jakes and while he was teaching a powerful word, he somehow in passing mentioned the show “Scandal” as an example and he stated that Thursday night is “Scandal” night at his home. I was taken aback, because although he is not perfect, I expected more from him and if anything at all, I thought it inappropriate for him to mention how he enjoys the show, given what the show is all about. It was a carnal moment. Here, it appears that even the great Bishop stumbles because he wanted his audience to know that he is up-to-date with popular and television culture. How does that moment discourage his audience to abstain from such trash which does not edify but rather contaminate the very people he is trying to enlighten and encourage about their walk with God? Yes, even our pastors and bishops are delighting themselves in the things of the world, how then can the general congregation turn away from them? The truth is that this era positions us at a critical place where we have to declare what we are about and what we believe. I suppose every era lends itself to such a critical moment, but this is our time and it is a time where unspeakable things are being not only spoken but embraced. Where do you stand? It is a time where we are being urged to step into what many consider an enlightening arena but their supposed light is actual darkness and a path to death and destruction, just as evidenced in the Garden of Eden with the eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. It is an era where we are challenged to forego our held Christian and Godly values to adopt the philosophy of the absurd and to legitimize it as wisdom. Where do you stand? We are at a place where we are provoked and condemned when we choose to adhere to the word and voice of the All Mighty Creator, while the very creatures He created are deafening our ears with their shouts of protests and indignation because we choose to embrace Christ instead of their lifestyles. Where do you stand? Yet, even as I ask where you stand, you know very well that too many of us have already thrown in the towel and are leaning towards the camp of absurd philosophy. Too many of us also have folded our arms and turned our heads away as if to say that our passivity regarding these issues will cause a counter revolution. Well, it will not! The only revolution will be on the side of the enemy as he barges into our homes, schools and churches to preach his own gospel. Can you tell me that this is not happening already? And it is happening, because we have opened the windows of our minds, hearts and souls via the television and other media sources to drink in and consume the enemy’s brand of religion and philosophy. So where do we stand when we are faced with irreconcilable differences? Do we divorce ourselves from these acts and works of the flesh and follow the path that Christ asks of us or do we stay put and find a compromise where there is really no compromise? We are regressing instead of progressing. We are dying instead of living abundantly. Do you want to start a revolution even if it seems a small act? Take a stance and see the irreconcilable differences as they are. Next time you are tempted to watch those shows, turn away and choose the Spirit. Reject the lust of the flesh and the works of the flesh; reject the enemy; reject Satan himself. Divorce yourself from him and his vices and walk in the Spirit.

On the following Sunday, the preacher rose to begin. Looking out at the congregation he said, 'Last week I asked you all to read Mark Chapter 17. Mark has only 16 chapters.' Lord have Mercy

He expressed that this was not mere chatter, but an outlet to expose those involved to greater opportunities in business growth.
The vision set forth by Tony Elumelu is one that he believes merges more than simple aid; it creates a solid partnership between Africa and the U.S. It’s the beginning of a business journey that takes a different, but more rewarding, path for all of those invested. The trip to Africa taken by President Obama was another key indicator that steps are being taken in the right directions to strengthen business ventures between Africa and America.
These attempts coexist with The Tony Elumelu Foundation as it extends its principles for growth to businesses owned or started by women and minorities. The most significant move, by far, is the entrepreneurship program that The Tony Elumelu Foundation will spearhead. It is designed on a financial standing of $100,000,000 to be disbursed among entrepreneurs throughout the U.S and Africa.
This newly formed relationship between Africa and the U.S is one that can create a positive mode of growth for African American entrepreneurs who stay the course and take the route the foundation has designed. The overwhelming occurrences of negativity surrounding African Americans in the press makes it necessary for many to find outlets that help them reach their full business potential. The summit created the opportunity and the foundation’s program provides the means to capitalize on the opportunity. Source: http://financialjuneteenth.com/

Nigerian Primary School Admits 63Year-Old Man
Afrikan
Post
By Misbahu Bashir A 63-year-old man who recently enrolled at a public primary school in Kaduna State and believed to be the oldest pupil in the state said he was inspired by Governor Nasir El-Rufa'i's free education pledge.
Danjuma Aliyu, popularly called Sarkin Lambu, got enlisted into the Kachia Primary School, Kachia, as a Primary One pupil. Aliyu, who attends lessons together with his colleagues mostly at the age bracket of his great grandchildren, said "I want to read and write and acquire a university degree. The governor promised to offer free education at primary and secondary schools and that gave me much impetus to start schooling at the age of 63 years. I hope to accomplish my aim in life."
Sarkin Lambu said his parents were against western education and refused to send him and his siblings to school. "Our parents didn't allow us to go to schools when we were growing up, to the extent of instructing us to hide whenever officials of the native authority were looking for children of school age. If I had attended schools then, I would have contributed a lot to the society but I hope to do that still."
Most of the schools in the rural areas in Kaduna State are fraught with decaying facilities and lacked classroom furniture thus; Sarking Lambu had to sit on the floor of the classroom to take lessons like other pupils. He was however not frustrated by the deplorable conditions and said he had made up his mind.
"The teachers decided that I start from class three but I insisted that I had to start from the beginning like my colleagues." Sarkin Lambu has a wife, eight children and 10 grandchildren

Alexandria, Virginia, USA- The first annual Miss Ghana Tourism USA Pageant was held in Rockville, Maryland (USA) on October 10, 2015. The beauty pageant endorses the beauty of Ghanaian women hailing from all parts of Ghana that are residents in the United States, while promoting Ghanaian tourism and lifestyle. After the night’s festivities and much awaited suspense, Whitney Osei was crowned the first Miss Ghana Tourism USA. The pageant featured young women with Ghanaian heritage from the Eastern Region, Central Region, Greater Accra Region, Ashanti Region, Volta Region of Ghana and more. The young women were judged based on their ability to promote the Ghanaian culture, public speaking skills, knowledge of their regions, appearance, personality and how well they would carry the title and promote Miss Ghana Tourism USA initiatives. The segments of the pageant were traditional opening, region platform, talent, evening gown and interviews. Special guests of honor and distinguished judges included the Ghanaian Ambassador to the United States, Deputy Ambassador and executives from Ghana Tourist Coach, African Post, South African Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines just to name a few. 24 year-old Whitney Osei hails from Kyebi, Ghana and is a student at Western Governors University majoring in Business Management. She is the President and Co- Founder of Revamp Africa, a non-profit organization that provides training to young innovators in Africa in the fields of business, technology, health and education. She is also the curator of an online publication ProlificPeceptions.com which promotes tourism and commerce in Ghana.
As Miss Tourism Ghana USA 2015, Whitney will spend her reign promoting and helping to develop the tourism infrastructure in Ghana while bringing awareness to social issues like human trafficking in Ghana. She will serve as a spokesperson for the Miss Ghana Tourism USA organization promoting their mission, values and initiatives. Since her crowning Whitney has been a special guest of honor at the Ghana Music Week Festival International Launch at the Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C. and the Ghana Black Stars versus Canada friendly match game at RFK Stadium.
When asked how she felt about her new role Whitney stated, “I am so excited about this opportunity. I am so passionate about my Ghanaian culture and could not think of anything better than showcasing it to others. Developing the tourism infrastructure in Ghana will generate revenue for the country that can be used in developmental projects and can also create jobs for many people. Already having a blog that talks about living in Ghana and the opportunities that are available, I believe I already have a head start and the judges made the right choice.” When asked what specific plans she had for the year Whitney reassured, “In addition to promoting tourism in Ghana, I would also like to bring awareness to a major social issue in Ghana which is human trafficking. We need to open up the opportunity for dialogue and start implementing solutions. With this platform I hope to pave way for young women to acknowledge and accept that they can do whatever they set their minds to no matter where they come from or what they have been through.”
We wish Whitney all the best in her new role. Contact: Miss Ghana Tourism USA Kwame Danquah Phone: +1 571 338 3789 ghtourismusa@gmail.com www.missghanatourismusa.org

‘Man Who Created’ HIV-AIDS Finally “Discovers” Vaccine
FORTY SIX (46) years after AIDS has killed tens of thousands of people, a top doctor pointedly fingered for creating HIV in the early 1970s, Robert Gallo has come out now saying he has discovered the vaccine. Dr. Robert Gallo, described his breakthrough vaccine as “just another protein” but different than anything that has been tried before.
He also exuberantly labelled it “the beginning of the beginnings”. Gallo was exposed in a previous ZimEye article after having been confronted on live video for his alleged role in embarking on biological warfare intended to wipe out black people as well as gay men in the 1970s.
This time Gallo has announced he is beginning the first human trials of his suddenly discovered HIV vaccine.
He described the vaccine as “just a protein” but different than anything that has been tried before.
It’s designed to induce a new kind of antibody to target infection right at the start, since the AIDS virus integrates within one day into human genes, and it becomes part of DNA in 2436 hours.
Gallo said it has taken nine years to get to this stage. The goal of the first phase is to prove his belief that the vaccine is safe. http://24.africametros.com/

Liberian Doctor Invents Test That Quickly Diagnoses Viruses
A research scientist of Liberian origin, Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, has invented a diagnostic test that can detect and distinguish seven different viruses at the same time. The viruses include HIV, hepatitis viruses, and another virus called Dengue hemorrhagic fever virus (which has similar symptoms like the Ebola virus) infection.
As lead-inventor, Dr. Nyan developed the test while working at the Laboratory of Emerging Pathogens at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States of America. The test is what scientist called a rapid procedure that can give test-results in less than one hour by using the patient blood samples. According to the US Federal Registry publication of October 15, 2014 entitle “Quantitative Multiplex Methods for Rapid Detection and Identification of Viral Nucleic Acids”, the test has been patented by the US government.
Information available to the FDA and the NIH technology office, the US government may have an interest in filing an international patent application for Dr. Nyan’s inventions. Already, part of the test in diagnosis of Hepatitis B virus was published in May 2014 in a journal, called Clinical Infection Diseases. The test, which also has the capability of detecting Ebola virus and other tropical infections could be useful in countries that are now affected by the present Ebola epidemic. Ability for rapid diagnosis is a problem in many poor countries and places that do not have advanced health care systems.
Thus, this test is a major development that could empower health care workers with a quick means of diagnosing many viral diseases in countries with less resources. Dr. Nyan, who testified on September 17, 2014 to the US Congress on the Ebola crisis in West Africa also works as an unpaid volunteer with the Diaspora Task Force on the Ebola Crisis, with which he serves as Director of its Secretariat. The Diaspora Task Force has carried out medical relief supplies to the Ebola affected region and is recruiting Diaspora medical personnel to send them to work in the region.
Also, Dr. Nyan is championing the creation of institute for disease control in Liberia and the region as a post-Ebola public health measure. A German trained medical doctor, Dr. Nyan also worked at the National Institutes of Health where he was trained in biomedical research. It can be recalled that Dr. Nyan in 1999 at the NIH developed a non-invasive diagnostic test for Helicobacter pylori infection. Dear Reader,
Hello Reader, We’ve crossed path on this platform of information sharing again. I am excited to write this piece of literature to you. As you would recall, on the previous article, we discussed the foundation and the importance of life insurance. I trust the message has echoed in your spirit. I would like to re-emphasize that life insurance policy is not just for when you are dead and your loved ones enjoy the proceeds. Rather, life insurance is protecting yourself should you suddenly face any life threatening illness such as disability or chronic or terminal illness; you can enjoy the benefits of the life insurance policy as well while still providing a financial fund stream for your family. Depending on the type of life insurance policy you have, you can also use it as an investment tool for future retirement or as an educational plan to support your children’s education. There are various uses for life insurance and it carries a tax free benefit. Now let’s talk about the various types of life insurance policies. Term life policy: provides temporary coverage with affordable premiums. Anyone can afford this type of insurance that provide security and peace of mind for yourself and your family. Though, there are various policies that ascribe to the term life insurance policies, let’s look at a specific product such as the Mortgage Protection Insurance that would have an immediate impact in your life. The Mortgage Protection Insurance policy is a term insurance that protects your house in case you suddenly become disabled or deemed chronically ill. This is not the same insurance as the Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) that you pay with your mortgage. The PMI protects the lender should you default on your mortgage. However, this Mortgage Protection Life Insurance protects YOU, the homeowner should something happen to you, your family
will be able to carry on the mortgage and still enjoy the home you left behind. Whole-life policy: it is a permanent life insurance policy that provides life coverage with an investment fund. It is a policy that part of the premium goes toward building cash value from investment and pays a stated fixed amount when you are called to glory. As the policy is in force and has build up cash value, you can borrow money against the build up cash in the policy without being taxed; you enjoy this benefit while you are still living. Within the arena of permanent life policies, there are Universal Life and Variable Life. Universal life policy combines term insurance with money market type investment that pays a market rate of return. Basically, it is a policy that has a death benefit and builds up cash value that can be borrowed from while you are still alive. Then, there are the Variable life and Variable Universal life policies that have investment fund tied to a stock or bond mutual fund investment. Life insurance policies have immeasurable benefits that can be enjoyed while you are still on earth and when you are called to glory. The essence of writing this to you is to broaden the depth of your thinking and to show you that there are wealth of information available to you for your financial planning and future. Over the years, the community has experienced sudden tragedies and over and over, it seems that we have not prepared for these events. We are a people that do not plan; we wait for events to suddenly overtake us and then we react. We need to learn the new way of emerging into the Western culture, where planning is essential. It worries and saddens me to see that we are perishing for lack of knowledge. Having a life insurance policy does not sentence you to death; it shows you take pride in your life, your future and your family that will someday succeed you. It creates and gives a peace of mind that you and your family will be taken care of in an unplanned dire situation(s) in life. Please note that this is to give you a general overview of life insurance policies. To get a complete understanding and enjoy the tax free benefits contact me for a FREE financial consultation.

It is always a pleasure to have this opportunity to ink these articles to you. I anticipate you have had the opportunity to read some of the past real estate articles I have put forth in this paper titled: “Why People of African Descent Must Invest in Real Estate”, “The Joy of Home Ownership”, “A Comeback from Short Sale or Foreclosure”, Simple Steps to make Home Ownership a Reality”, and “Tips on Buying a Home After a Short Sale”; just to name a few. From these articles, I have had several readers contacted me asking important questions pertaining to the home ownership process. These questions posed by readers such as you gave birth to the following questions and answers. Here we go! Question: What are the benefits of home ownership?
Answer: A home is an investment. When you rent, you are throwing money away. You write a monthly check and that money is gone forever. But when you own your home you enjoy a lot of benefits such as writing of your mortgage interest, you can deduct a room in your home as home office business expense and biggest advantage is the principle you pay on the mortgage is like putting money in the bank in the form of equity. Home ownership allow you landscape your yard/backyard how you want it, decorate/paint or renovate your house as you please without dealing with obstinate landlord. The joy of home ownership is priceless.
Question: What documents are required?
Answer: Copies of bank account statements; most recent paycheck stub detailing your earnings; copies of your last 2 years' income tax returns; statement of any investments, list of debts on loans and employment verification.
Question: What credit score do I need?
Answer: The credit score criteria defer from lender to lender. There are lenders who will look at credit score as low as 580. However, for the home buying transaction to succeed you must pay off any outstanding debts on your credit report.
Question: I have a bad credit can I buy a house?
Answer: Having a bad credit now should not deter you from your dreams or goals or destiny of home ownership. It will require some work on your part to bring you to a credit worth buyer. You can contact me and discuss the strategies that can be taken to reach this goal.
Question: How much down payment is needed?
Answer: The amount of down payment required will depend on the type of loan you are qualified for. There are government programs that requires 0% down payment; however there are eligibility guidelines set for one to be approved. There are Veteran Administration (VA) loan and Conventional loan. However, FHA is the most common type of loan. Typically, FHA requires a 3.5% down payment of the loan amount or the total sale price of the transaction.
Question: In addition to the mortgage payment, what other costs will I be responsible for?
Answer: Well, if you are renting and utilities are covered in your rent, this might be new to you. As a home owner you will be responsible for paying your gas, electricity, water, insurance, property taxes, and possible homeowner association (HOA) fees. Typically, property taxes are rolled into your mortgage payment. Question: I have foreclosed/short sale in the past, can I still buy now? Answer: Yes, it is definitely possible to come back to buy a house again after foreclosure or short sale of a property. I hope this addresses some of the burning questions you have for making the bold decision to emerge into the idea of home ownership.

Kwame Boakye Danquah The Man Behind The Miss Ghana Tourism USA Pageant
October 2015
Post
What motivated me is the Tourism potentials in Ghana. When I look at the driving force behind Tourist’s intensions and behaviors when they visit Ghana, it blows my mind. I saw the need to start this pageant and use it as a mouth piece to revamp our Tourist industry. With all intents and purposes Miss Ghana Tourism will drive and promote investment in Ghana, and raise visibility to improve trade in Africa and the rest of the world. I believe
Miss Ghana Tourism USA would meet people’s goals. . This year 2015, we are proud to have a beautiful and smart lady Whitney Osei to be the winner!! Talking about the ultimate goal, Miss Ghana Tourism is forming a foundation for greater things to come. We will generate Tourists interest and actualize their intrinsic needs, and let them know “which countries are for what? Who is doing what? We aspire to inject a sense of awareness into People especially Ministry of Tourism in Ghana. They will have a sense of inspiration to push so hard so that our Tourism sector will be recognized in the States during their “NATIONAL TOURISM PERIOD”. It will motivate and inspire them to visit Ghana if we manage our “Tourism Potfolio” well. Ghana’s economic development will largely depends on how well we promote our Tourism abroad. We need to self actualize and liberate our Tourist destinations in Ghana. We are already collaborating here in the United States with some notable companies like South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Ndoum Group, KBD insurance, Green Home Mortgage, Ghana Tourist Coach Radio, African Post Newspapers etc. These are strategic partners. Miss Ghana Tourism USA wants to have “free media with the travel industry which will enhance the general consumer media. Ultimately this will create lots of awareness in Ghana. No one, or no institution can live without challenges. New organization such as Miss Ghana Tourism USA is no exception. We have faced a range ofchallenges. Risks and mistakes are part of our daily lives. You just have to know how to deal

with them as they come. In my world, most challenges are a stepping stone to succeed. I just have to look at the end of the tunnel, it’s positively just around the corner. The feedback from the people is amazing!! It’s very encouraging. I’m very excited!!!!! The future of this organization is very bright in that, we intend to get “Tour operators to provide quality service so that those who “purchase tickets” to will be satisfied. Again we are to encourage “Tour operators” organize products that people can buy and visit Ghana. Miss Ghana Tourism USA wants to put Ghana on the map so that Tourists would look at “Ghana as a place to go! The future is so bright!! We are going to work with “structures (like “hotels, monuments), and fix poor conditions of service. Ghana must be prepared to handle the tourists as they come in. We really have to understand the movement of the people as they come and go. Miss Ghana Tourism will help put in place a system of assessment which will update us about our daily movement and identify good hotels in Ghana. We will have people on the ground (good eyes) to tell us how friendly, are the people in Ghana. For instance, the state of the rivers and beaches over there in Ghana. This year 2015, the winner took home a free round trip ticket to Ghana, provided by South African Airways, $500.00 (Cash) and clothes from GTP.

President of Nigeria National League (NNL) team, Remo Stars Football Club, Kunle Soname, at the weekend became the first Nigerian to own a top European football club by buying Portuguese second division side, Clube Desportivo Feirense. Soname secured 70 percent of the club, which last played in the Portuguese topflight division in 2011.
According to a statement on the club’s website, “Last Friday we effected a transformation of our club through the sale of part of the capital to our new partners, Tavisstock Global Resource Ltd, led by Mr. Kunle Soname.
“We wish all the stakeholders the best and believe it will be a lasting partnership that would bring great sporting success to Clube Desportivo Feirense.”
Speaking on the take over, Soname said the takeover would impact positively on both his two clubs and Nigerian Football, adding, “It is a great thing to have achieved this. My sincere gratitude to God and everyone involved in the take over process.
“Securing Clube Desportivo Feirense was the next step in the right direction for me. I love everything about the club: the organisation, the philosophy and the fans I have no intention of changing anything in the club because I am satisfied with their operations.
“Rather, I want to ensure the progress of the club through promotion to the Portuguese Primera division.
“Having been involved in Nigerian football over the years by running Remo Stars Football club, I felt it was time to further develop the team. It would also bring benefits for Nigerian football through players transfer, training for officials and administrators, who have proven they have what it takes to succeed in Europe.
“I still have my commitment to Remo Stars FC; it is the beginning of all I have achieved in football and I will keep improving the team to get it to the greatest heights.

Nigerian Segun Odegbami has failed in his bid to stand in February's Fifa presidential elections.
The 63-year-old former international was unable to win the required backing of five member associations.
Odegbami said Nigeria's Football Federation offered him its support too late to meet Monday's deadline.
"The NFF only sent their nomination letter to Fifa (on Monday afternoon). What was I supposed to do with that?" Odegbami told BBC Sport.
"That was their reaction to my letter sent to them two months ago. It is preposterous." Odegbami also believes that his outspoken criticism of longstanding Confederation of African Football president Issa Hayatou may have counted against him. "Of course there are local politics within the Nigerian and African football system that pitches some of us against the established system," he said. "I have been one of the most virulent critics of the perpetuity of Issa Hayatou in office and I knew I was not one of his best friends." Source: http://www.bbc.com
