First of all, congratulation on winning the Miss Africa Australia 2011, I understand it was unexpected as you were competing with other contestants with potential.

Q So tell us about your experience being a contestant this year? A Being at Miss Africa was overwhelming for me it changed so many things in my life. It’s also a once in life opportunity and through it I manage to meet new people and make new friends.

Q What’s your dream? And with Miss Africa Australia do you think you can get there? A My dream has been to be a role model to all young African Australians and Miss Africa Australia certainly provide me opportunity and the platform to do just that.

Q What made you decided to take part in Miss Africa Australia? A I decided to do Miss Africa because I had low self-esteems, I wasn’t confident and I wasn’t really happy with my current life style. However, through the training and support I was able to things from a different perspective also having to attend different functions and events made me confident around others.

Q What would you say to young African Australians wanting to achieve their hopes and dreams? A Go for it, don’t be scared, follow your heart, believe in your abilities of achieving great things and put hard work into it because it will pay off. We live in a country which provide us the opportunity to be what we want to be.

Q Did you ever imagine that you would become the next Miss Africa Australia? And why? A To be honest, I would’ve never thought I would become the next Miss Africa because most my friends in the competition I felt had a better chance than me -they all looked amazing and being the youngest at Seventeen, but I guess the judges saw something different in me. Q Being at Miss Africa this year, what have achieved so far? A What changed in me was the way I see life now, my determination, keeping the culture alive, my self-esteem has changed and being educated gave the chance to win the completion. Q Do you think you can inspire the younger generation in the capacity of Miss Africa Australia 2011 and how? A As a Miss Africa Australia, I do believe I can inspire a lot of people to see beyond their age and limitations. Because no matter how young you are or how old are, you can achieve anything. The program inspired me a lot and I believe I can encourage others become part of this amazing program like Miss Africa Australia. Q What’s your short term and long term goals? A My Short term goal is to help young Africans and educate them on the importance of being a role model in the Australian society. My Long term is to enter university in 2013 and become a lawyer. Q Where do you see Miss Africa Australia’s vision in terms of changing and inspiring people? Eaton left South Africa in 1984, since his arrival he has held several executive positions, spending the majority of his time in Australia; he has also worked in the United States and New Zealand. D.R. Congo wins PAN Cup The final of the Perth African Nations Cup saw Nigeria take on D.R. Congo at Hartfield Park on Sunday night with both teams advancing through the competition undefeated. Nigeria had come through Saturdayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s semi final against South Sudan after a very tight game that was eventually decided on penalties while D.R. Congo had overcome Uganda to book their place in the final match of the three week tournament.

here was a large and vocal crowd at Hartfield Park that enjoyed a fantastic and very competitive game. Just before half time Nigeria broke the deadlock to lead 1-0 and looked to be in control as D.R. Congo struggled to break down an organized and determined Nigerian defense. There was plenty of quality on display from both sides but it was D.R. Congo who really turned on the style in the second half. Two stunning goals saw them overtake a tiring Nigerian side before a brilliant free kick added a third and then yet another goal from open play saw a jubilant D.R. Congo win 4-1 and claim the PAN Cup.

The tournament was a great success for everyone involved and a superb exhibition of high quality football. Uganda finished third behind runners up Nigeria and champions D.R Congo while Egypt gained a special mention for having the best supporters. Football West had organised a magnificent tournament and Forrestfield United have been proud to host such a great event. With the State League night series starting soon and the 2012 season just around the corner the PAN Cup has been a brilliant introduction to what promises to be an exciting year of football right across Perth.

ill Marcus is the first woman to hold the position of the Governor of the South African Reserve Bank. She was born on the 10th August 1949 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Marcus is of Jewish heritage, her grandparents were Jewish immigrants; however, her parents are both South African. Her mother and father, Nathan and Molly Marcus, were well known activists of the anti-apartheid movement; they were both members of the South African Communist Party.

The Marcus family, which included two sisters and a brother, left South Africa in 1969 and went into exile in the United Kingdom, during this time Gill Marcus completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree via correspondence with the University of South Africa. She also completed a degree in Industrial Psychology from a London University at the same time as running the families salad bar in Knightsbridge. Prior to her exile, she attended Barnato Park High School for Girls where she was an avid sportswoman, and particularly enjoyed horse riding and swimming. In 1970 Marcus became a member of the African National Congress (ANC); she worked for their Department of Information and Publicity, where she served as an editor for the ANC’s weekly newsletter. This led to a position as the DIP’s deputy secretary responsible for international publicity. She returned to South Africa in 1990 after the unbanning of the ANC, being one of the first ANC members to return, by which time she had spent 21 years in excile. She then established an information department for the ANC and was elected to serve on the ANC’s National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee, where she stayed until 1999; Marcus quickly became one of the prominent voices of the ANC. She was elected into parliament in 1994 and served as the first chairperson of the Joint Standing Committee on Finance. Under her leadership, the Committee developed a reputation for transparency, accessibility and fearlessness in the castigating of individual as well as departmental incompetence. Before the elections she was responsible for training ANC voter educators and media workers, she chaperoned Nelson Mandela to the provinces during his election campaign. Gill played a key role in media policies for the ANC in the run up to the 1994 elections.

She was appointed as the Deputy Finance Minister in 1996, after having proved herself in the male dominated arena of finance; and in 1999 she became the Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank. Her success in her position was significant at a time when South Africa was rife with issues of gender inequality. She held this position for five years, and in 2004, become the Professor of Policitical Leadership and Gender Studies at the Gordons Institute of Business and Science. Marcus was appointed as the non executive Chairperson of the Absa Group in 2007. On the 9th November 2009, she became the ninth Governor of the South African Reserve Bank; this is the first time that this position has been held by a female. Gill Marcus has held several prominent positions; she was the chairperson for the Financial Services Board and the Standing Committee for the Revision of the Banks Act, a member of the Millennium Labor Council, the non executive director of Gold Fields Ltd, as well as serving on the Advisory Board of the Auditor General. Ms Marcus is currently the patron of the Pretoria Suns gardens Hospice’s and the Working on Fire Program, as well as a supporter of the Johannesburg’s Children’s Home. She is also the Chairperson of the Rhodes Scholarship Fund. In her public and political activities Gill Marcus has built a well respected reputation for her acute fastidious approach to her work and her effective and efficient abilities in administration. With a strong belief in the people of South Africa and its potential as a country, she is whole heartedly committed to the cultivation of a prosperous civil society, which protects an individual’s right to be different without leading to racial hatred or violence. She has lived a life of dignity and value both in London and in South Africa, she has devoted her adult life to the cause of democracy and justice, and her vigilance and consistency has done much to reach those goals. ohann Rupert, the executive president of the world’s second biggest luxury goods company is the first son of business mogul Anton Rupert. Dr Anthony Edward Rupert was an Afrikaner billionaire, born and raised in a small town called Graaf-Reinet in South Africa. He moved to Stellenbosch after dropping out of medical school due to a lack of funds, and went on to earn a Chemistry Degree from the University of Pretoria. Rupert had a sixty year career in business. His global empire began in 1941with an investment of £10 and two other investors; they began to manufacture cigarettes in his garage which later became the Rembrandt Group. He died at the age of 89 in his sleep at his home in Stellenbosch. In 2010 he was listed on the Forbes 500 worldwide wealthiest families list. Johann Rupert was raised in Stellenbosch, a town in South Africa where he attended Paul Roos Gymnasium; he then went on to study Company Law and Economics at the University of Stellenbosch. He left before completing the course to embark on a business career; however he was rewarded with an Honorary Doctorate in Economics by Stellenbosch University in 2004. Prior to becoming a part of the Rembrandt Empire he was employed by Chase Manhattan in New York; he went back to South Africa and set up the multinational branch of the Rand Merchant Bank. Since becoming a part of the family enterprise Rupert has expanded Rembrandt into foreign markets, this expansion led to the formation of

The Monkey & The Tortoise There once was a Monkey and a Tortoise who were great friends. The tortoise had no money so he asked the monkey to lend him some and the monkey agreed. When the time came for the tortoise to give back the money, he always would say â&#x20AC;&#x153;I will have the money tomorrowâ&#x20AC;?. But when tomorrow came, the tortoise kept saying that he would have the money tomorrow. The monkey decided to visit the tortoise at his house, when the tortoise saw the monkey coming, he laid down and asked a child to start grinding the finger millet on his back. So the child pretended as if it was grinding the finger millet on the tortoise back, which looked like a normal grinding stone. The monkey asked the child where the tortoise was, and the child replied that he did not know. When the monkey got so frustrated when he heard this, that he picked up the grinding stone and

threw it at a tree and left. The tortoise fell out of the tree and went home. The next day the monkey and the tortoise met up again and the monkey told the tortoise that he was at his house yesterday looking for him so that he could get his money back. But when he found out that the tortoise was not at home, he was so angry that he had picked up the grinding stone and thrown it at the tree. The tortoise then told the monkey that he had placed the money underneath the grinding stone. If you want your money, you will have to find me that grinding stone. The monkey looked and looked but could not find the grinding stone. That is why now the monkeys live in the trees; they are looking for the grinding stone with the money to bring back to the clever tortoise.
