We Recommend the “AROMA”
How do you decide where to go out for breakfast? The sweet-versus-savory debate is highly relevant. If cheese, potatoes and hot sauce get your heart racing more than whipped cream and maple syrup, you don’t want a pancake house. You want a place that knows its way around a scramble, where meat and vegetables and spices are well known. Whether you are an outsider or a local resident, make a run for the best quick service restaurant in El Paso – The Oasis Bistro & Lounge.
Ambiance and good food are about all Aroma needs to make this list. Aroma, puts a modern upscale presentation on a classic cuisine. The interior is intimate, with contemporary art and music. If there’s a trend that resonates in reviews of Aroma, it is “the beautiful decor, fanciful plating, and superior service.” “You can experience flavors from around the globe, or from your grandmother’s kitchen. Healthy options also abound.”

Far Out! How Thoughts Affect Water and Shape Our Realities! Perhaps one of the most underestimated aspects of human existence is the power of our thoughts and intent. While some of us like to play victim to life’s experiences happening beyond our control, there are others who have awakened to the truth as to how we create our own reality, hence attract all that we experience in our lives, quite literally. Dr. Masaru Emoto is one such soul who shares with the world his groundbreaking discovery which clearly shows the affect of human consciousness on water molecules. We can understand this better if we can understand that all life forms , everything in the universe is inherently a vibration ! In his experiments, Dr. Emoto exposed music, words spoken, words typed, pictures and videos to Water. After it was crystallized the water showed some remarkable patterns. Positive words such as ‘Thank You’, ‘Love’, ‘Truth’, ‘Compassion’, and ‘Happiness’ gave the water molecule a beautiful crystalline structure contrary to the water molecules which were exposed to negative terminology and intent with words and phrases such as ‘hate’, ‘greed’, ‘you make me sick’ which made the structure all distorted and chaotic. This is what Dr. Emoto has to say about his experiments with water … “It was 1994 when the idea to freeze water and observe it with a microscope came upon me. With this method, I was convinced that I should be able to see something like snow crystals.” After two months of trial and error, this idea bore fruit. The beautifully shining hexagonal crystals were created from the invisible world. My staff at the laboratory and I were absorbed in it and began to do many researches. At first, we strenuously observed crystals of tap water, river water, and lake water. From the tap water we could not get any beautiful crystals. We could not get any beautiful ones from rivers and lakes near big cities, either. However, from the water from rivers and lakes where water is kept pristine from development, we could observe beautiful crystals with each one having its own uniqueness. Since our bodies are mostly water one can only imagine how our thoughts, words and intent affect our vibrational state. Some recent studies also suggest that water has memory of its own and can carry the memory of that substance even after it has been so diluted than none of the molecules of the molecules of the original substance remain. This is exactly what Homeopathy is based on. ‘Cymatics’, which is the scientific study of how vibrational frequencies affect physical matter also corroborates with Dr. Emoto’s discovery of water being affected by waves of intent and thought forms. The term Cymatics was coined by Dr. Hans Jenny which is derived from the Greek word ‘kyma’ meaning ‘wave’ or ‘ta kymatica’ meaning ‘matters pertaining to waves’. (PAGE 13) :: After5ive.org
In his research with the tonoscope, Jenny noticed that when the vowels of the ancient languages of Hebrew and Sanskrit were pronounced, the sand took the shape of the written symbols for these vowels, while our modern languages, on the other hand, did not generate the same result! How is this possible? Did the ancient Hebrews and Indians know this? Is there something to the concept of “sacred language,” which both of these are sometimes called? What qualities do these “sacred languages,” among which Tibetan, Egyptian and Chinese are often numbered, possess? Do they have the power to influence and transform physical reality, to create things through their inherent power, or, to take a concrete example, through the recitation or singing of sacred texts, to heal a person who has gone “out of tune”? After we’ve known this, the question arises as to what can we do to put this knowledge into practice. Well, its quite simple really. Be aware of your own feelings and work towards enhancing your own vibrational state to a higher frequency of love and compassion for all. To get to this state of being one needs to transcend the limiting beliefs of the old paradigm and make way for the realization of our innate spiritual oneness with all there is. Clearly, our homes are not restricted to the concrete jungles we pay a fortune to get into and we must awaken to our individual contribution in keeping our home, Planet Earth clean and beautiful as its supposed to be. Its about time we go beyond these nonexistent illusory boundaries of village, state or country and live a life in harmony with nature, not treating everything as a resource with a price tag attached to it. In a wonderland that is Goa, we have the opportunity to stay close to natural surroundings with clean rivers and lakes which we must strive to keep clean. Our individual efforts and our sense of awareness makes a world of a difference in our lives and those around us. Everything changes when we start emitting our own frequency rather than absorbing the frequencies around us, when we start imprinting our intent on the universe rather than receiving an intent from existence.
It’s about time we start beaming positivity and good vibes wherever we are … start becoming the change we wish to see in the world! As solid as it may appear to our five senses, our realities are quite literally manifestations of our thoughts. “Energy flows where attention goes … so what are your thoughts focused on”.
From Dr. Masaru Emoto (http://twitter.com/MasaruEmoto)

TOP OKTOBERFEST BEERS Strap on the lederhosen and heed the advice of a beer aficionado for which Oktoberfest brews to pour into your oversized beer stein. By John B. Turiano
Beer is a central element of Oktoberfest, the 16-day celebration of all things Bavarian, held in Munich, Germany, and running from September 22 to October 7. “Oktoberfest beers are characterized by a long brewing tradition and the strict adherence of the Reinheitsgebot or Bavarian Purity Requirements [beer made with only water, barley, and hops], says Joe Vicidomini, owner of The Craftsman Ale House (235 Harrison Ave, Harrison 914630-7484; craftsmanalehouse.com). Keep in mind that traditional Oktoberfest beers have high alcohol content, so go easy, lest you end up among the bierleichen (i.e., beer corpses). (PAGE 17) :: After5ive.org
Here are a few beers to say Prost! to:
Spaten Oktoberfest This amber-colored, mediumbodied beer has a rich-textured palate with an underlying sweetness; it achieves an exact balance between roasted malt and hops flavor. Alcohol: 6%
“Traditionally, Oktoberfest beers (aka Marzens) are brewed in the spring, stored in cold cellars through the summer, and finally tapped in the fall”
Hofbrau Oktober-festbier
Shiner Oktoberfest
This brew smells slightly skunky but also sweet. It’s light and crisp and it has a mildly bitter finish. Alcohol: 6%
This festive Marzen-style seasonal has a deep amber color and slightly toasted flavor. The initial rich malty aroma and sweetness fades to a moderately dry, hoppy finish. Alcohol: 5.7%
Paulaner Oktoberfest More than one million steins of this Märzen are served at Oktoberfest. It’s a yellowy-gold seasonal specialty (available only July through October) with a light hops taste. Alcohol: 5.8%
The Ayinger Oktoberfest The Ayinger is copper color in the glass, clear looking throughout with a medium, non-retentive head. Nose of malt, caramel and flowers. Flavors of eucalyptus, malt and a hint of bitters. Good. Let’s call this one three out of five stars. Alcohol: 5.6%

Does Fluoride Calcify Your Arteries? New research reveals a startling new finding: Fluoride is likely contributing to the epidemic of cardiovascular disease by stimulating calcification of the vascular system, including the coronary arteries. In a study published in the journal Nuclear Medicine Communications earlier this year (Jan. 2012), researchers assessed fluoride uptake and calcification in the major arteries of 61 patients who were administered sodium fluoride, the active ingredient in most fluoridated toothpastes. The study revealed: “The coronary fluoride uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than in patients without cardiovascular events.” They also found that there was a signification correlation between fluoride uptake and calcification observed in most of the arterial walls, indicating that the fluoride itself likely stimulates the precipitation of calcium within the arteries. It is already well-known that vascular calcification is highly correlated with cardiovascular disease mortality. The hardening of the arteries associated with atherosclerosis is in part due to the calcification of plaque which subsequently becomes brittle and susceptible to breaking off into an artery-obstructing clot. Even taking elemental calcium supplements (sourced from limestone, bone meal or oyster shell), at doses as low* as 500 mg a day, was shown in two meta-analyses last year to increase the risk of heart attack by up to 27%. (PAGE 19) :: After5ive.org
Thick calcified rings - that could be observed macroscopically were found along the aortas of animals with massive calcification.
What is novel about this new study is that it indicates how cardiovascular calcification may be occurring. Beyond the excessive consumption of inorganic calcium, fluoride may be an essential factor in mediating calcium’s contribution to enhanced cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Fluoride exposure is now ubiquitous, thanks to the fluoridation of public drinking water, medications like Prozac (fluoxetine), non-stick cookware, to name but a few common routes of exposure. Fluoride-induced calcification is not a new finding. Back in 2001, autopsies on cadavers revealed that fluoride accumulation in the pineal gland is associated with enhanced calcification of that endocrine organ. GreenMedInfo.com contains research on natural substances which may attenuate Fluoride Toxicity and Ectopic Calcification. *The National Osteoporosis Foundation, whose corporate sponsors include elemental calcium supplement manufacturers Oscal and Citracal, recommend 1200 mg a day for women over 40. Yoga Benefits Women with Breast Cancer By Sherry Baker, Health Sciences Editor
(NaturalNews) In a study just published in the journal Psycho-Oncology, researchers conclude they’ve found a treatment that resulted in a 50% reduction in depression and a 12% increase in feelings of peace and meaning in women with breast cancer. The successful treatment isn’t a new type of anti-depressant or anti-anxiety drug. In fact, it isn’t a drug at all -- it’s the ancient healing and exercise system known as yoga. Wake Forest University School of Medicine scientists conducted a randomized study of 44 women, all with breast cancer; 34% were actively undergoing cancer treatment such as chemotherapy while the rest of the majority had already completed therapy. Half took a ten week program of 75 minute Restorative Yoga (RY) classes and half were in the waitlist control group. RY is a gentle type of yoga similar to other forms of yoga classes that gently moves the spine in all directions. Blankets, cushions, bolsters, and any other needed props provide support that results in deep relaxation with minimal physical exertion, allowing people at virtually any level of health to practice yoga more easily. The women in both groups completed a questionnaire to assess the quality of their lives at the beginning and end of the ten week program. According to the Wake Forest research team, the results showed that the women who had been given the RY classes experienced significantly more benefits than the control group (who were later all invited to participate in identical RY classes).
Specifically, the yoga group was found to have improvements in mental health including depression, positive emotions, and spirituality (defined as feeling calm and peaceful) compared to the control group. In fact, the scientists found that women who started the yoga classes with higher negative emotions and lower emotional well-being experienced the most benefits from the gentle yoga exercises compared to the control group. In addition, while women in the control group did not report a change in their fatigue levels, the women taking yoga classes demonstrated a significant improvement in fatigue symptoms. “Evidence from systematic reviews of randomized trials is quite strong that mind-body therapies improve mood, quality of life, and treatment-related symptoms in people with cancer. Yoga is one mind-body therapy that is widely available and involves relatively reasonable costs,” Suzanne Danhauer, Ph.D., who headed the Wake Forest University School of Medicine research team, said in a statement to the media. “Given the high levels of stress and distress that many women with breast cancer experience, the opportunity to experience feeling more peaceful and calm in the midst of breast cancer is a significant benefit.” After5ive.org :: (PAGE 20)

Sizzling Beauty
5 Makeup and Hair Tips From the Runway By Carly Cardellino
From faking volume in seconds to getting a smudge-free mani, these five pro makeup artist tricks come straight from behind the scenes at the Spring 2013 fashion shows. But get this: They're all tips that you can try right now!
(PAGE 21) :: After5ive.org
Natural-Looking Flush MAC makeup artist Polly Osmond swears it's easy to get that softly flushed look. At the Christian Siriano show, she used a pink blush to create the look of warmth on the skin. Simply dust some blush, using a medium-sized fluffy brush and circular motions, to disperse the color evenly along the circumference of your face. Just the smallest amount of blush in this area will make the biggest difference—you'll look softly flushed and awake..

Get Insta-Volume Thomas Dunkin, lead hairstylist behind the scenes at the Mara Hoffman show, told us that a good way to create volume in your hair is pull the top layer of your hair up and crimp the sections underneath. "Then, once you let the top layer down over the crimped layers, the new texture helps pad your hair so it looks instantly thicker and fuller." Hot Tools 2" Professional Crimper, $31.43
Make a Perfect Mani Manicurist Miss Pop for Color Club gave us a super-easy tip that she used at Charlotte Ronson for cleaning nail polish off of the model's skin. (Hey, even pros color outside of the lines when they're polishing tips!) She says to go to your local craft store and pick up a sable paint brush, similar to the one here: Crazy Cart Size 10 Marble Sable Acrylic Nail Art Painting Brush Pen, $.79, amazon.com. Once you've painted your nails, dip the brush into your acetone remover, and gently run the brush head along your skin surrounding your nail. This trick works better than using a soaked cotton swab, since the fibers can accidentally get stuck in the polish and ruin your nails.
Make Waves... With a Flat Iron Hairstylist Jon Reyman created free-flowing subtle waves at Charlotte Ronson —and he did it using a flat iron. Here's how: Beginning at your hairline and working backwards, divide your hair into one-inch sections and roll each one around two fingers to create a loose pin curl. Next, press the curl between a straightening iron's plates, like Remington S5500 Digital Anti Static 1 Inch Ceramic Hair Straightener, $14.97, amazon.com, for a few seconds—then release. Finally, rake through your hair with your fingers to break up the wavy bends you just created.
Get the Right Bronzer At Rebecca Taylor, makeup artist Sil Bruinsma let us in on a little secret: If you have light to medium skin, it's best to use a yellowbased bronzer instead of an orange-based one. The undertones of the yellow formula keep your glow from looking seriously fake (think: Snooki on the Jersey Shore). He used MAC 'Hey, Sailor!' Bronzing Powder in Soft Sand, $24, nordstrom. com, a yellow-based bronzer, on all of the models with fair to medium-skin tones. After5ive.org :: (PAGE 22)
Meet Market Three Keys to Finding and Keeping a Healthy Relationship by: Mike Bundrant
Jake Eagle, co-founder of Green Psychology, identifies three keys to finding and keeping a healthy romantic relationship. Supportive and fulfilling primary relationships are commonly accepted as an important aspect of overall health. Jake’s ideas about how to approach relationships are not so common. According to Jake, finding and keeping a healthy relationship partner requires three basics: • Intolerance • Being the kind of person you want to attract • Showing up fully and not holding yourself back Intolerance is the first key Yes, intolerance! Think of it like this, there are three stages to romantic relationships: dating, relating, and mating (mating being the equivalent of marriage). During the first stage -- dating -- you want to be intolerant of things that don’t work for you. This doesn’t mean you need to be rude or disrespectful, just firm. If your date picks you up late and that really doesn’t work for you, let him know. If he does it again, tell him that if it happens one more time he’s out. Apply the three strikes and you’re out rule. What a lot of people do very early on in relationships is negotiate about everything, trying to compromise. These efforts may be appropriate once you get to the relating stage, but they are not appropriate in the dating stage. The dating stage should be easy. It’s a time to have fun, explore how your rhythms sync up, and figure out if you’ve got good chemistry, which can be pretty well determined from first base.
(PAGE 23) :: After5ive.org
The second key to attracting a good partner Be the person you want to attract. If you say you want a partner who is mature, reliable, financially stable, and able to communicate well -- you need to be that person. Relationships work best when like attracts like. If you find someone to compensate for your limitations, it’s too easy to become dependent on that person. More often than not this leads to problems. The third key Show yourself. Don’t hold back, only putting forth your best self. This is a flawed strategy -- waiting until you are invested in the relationship before telling your partner any “bad news” about you or your life. A woman recently asked her male partner “Are you in love with me?” The man made himself nervous with the question. Out of fear that she would disapprove of his answer, he sidestepped her question, leaving it unanswered. He missed an opportunity to show up, justifying his actions as a way to “avoid conflict and hurt feelings.” But by not showing up, he missed the chance to clarify their relationship, which from a Green Psychology point of view would have been the kind and respectful thing to do. It doesn’t matter what the answer is. Showing up and being honest allows us to see what’s obvious. When people don’t show up, or they aren’t honest, the relationship drifts into the territory of fantasy. This results in misunderstanding, power struggles, resentment, and a lack of true intimacy. You may find this formula challenging, but it works. If it feels difficult, that’s just because it’s unfamiliar. Although this approach may feel difficult at first, if you do this -- living, partnering, and relating will become much easier. Sources for this article include: greenpsychology.net

efore you start sipping that cocktail take a moment. The person next to you may have just slipped you GHB. No one wants to live in a state of paranoia but remember the movie “The Hangover?’ Zach Galifianakis’ character thought it would be a good idea to have a little fun. Next thing you know they wake up in a hotel room, Ed Helms’ character is missing a tooth, there’s a tiger in the bathroom and no one remembers what happened. The whole situation sounds a little far fetched but the treat is more real than you may realize.

Unless you have the rotating eye skills of a chameleon, it’s hard to watch out for your drink at the same time you watch out for that cute guy on the dance floor. No matter how self-aware you are, there’s always a chance of getting an unexpected pharmaceutical present in your beverage on a night out. Any drink, even an innocent tonic water, can turn into a cocktail that takes you to the Twilight Zone if it’s unattended. The secret ingredients are commonly referred to as “date rape drugs,” and facilitated the raping of 200,000 women in the United States in 2007 according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
By Pilar Carreras
So what is GHB? The prescription form of GHB approved by the Food and Drug Administration is used for the treatment of narcolepsy, a sleep disorder caused by the brain’s inability to regulate sleep-wake cycles. According to Drugfree.org, GHB or Gamma Hydroxybutyrate can be a clear liquid, a white powder, a tablet or some other capsule form. It’s colorless and orderless but it does have a salty taste. That taste is virtually undetectable. Seizures and coma can result following GHB abuse. Combining it with other drugs like alcohol can result in nausea and breathing abnormalities. Other GHB withdrawal effects include insomnia, anxiety, sweating and tremors.
”Check Your Drink for Roofies”
SAFET Y TIPS The best way to deal with drink-spiking crimes is to avoid getting the “present” in your drink in the first place. The most basic line of defense is to hold your drink with one hand while using the free one as a cover, never accept drinks from strangers, and continuously survey the bartender while the drinks are being prepared and served. But this kind of hyper-moderation would likely limit your enjoyment of the night and you would probably get some strange looks and reactions from gentlemen callers and the bartender. And even the most vigilant drink supervisor would have diminished observation skills as the drinks continued to flow. Luckily, the popularity of devices designed to protect open bottles from being spiked has increased in the last few years. They are referred to as “stoppers” and they fit neatly into open bottles. You can buy them online from ToppStoppa, Safeflo and Spikey.

Local Beats

DJ AMER
mer Jandali has been a vital part of electronic music and club culture for over 5ive years now. This talented DJ began making a name for himself pioneering the sounds of house music appealing to lovers of dance beats of all styles.
By Jess Romero
DJ Amer is undoubtedly one of the most exciting DJs to emerge in the El Paso and Las Cruces scene. With his phenomenal technical skills and Hip-Hop flair, his enthusiasm and dedication have impressed clubbers and the music industry alike. Amer’s unique sound revolutionized local house music with inspirational sounds and rhythms. The high energy filtered house grooves have become Amer’s signature sound. Innovator to many, Amer’s love for music spawned an opening for LMFAO, The Sun City Music Festival and the Miss New Mexico, USA beauty competition. After years of development, DJ Amer is a familiar name across the club circuit rocking down the best venues and hottest events on our Borderplex. He has been the undisputed prince of the turntables and voted among El Paso’s top DJs. Over the course of DJ Amer’s career, he has collaborated and worked with many talented and influential professionals. Dj Amer is a humble man of many worlds, whether it is hip-hop, or deep house music, Dj Amer always delivers. Though he is best experienced live, spinning his heart out, Amer’s inner self felt impelled to bring out his much more profound vision to life… Syria. With Syria dear to his heart, it is his sense of serving a higher purpose by connecting people together, through music and influencing other talented DJs to unite and create a positive awareness, which made us admire his talents even more. Amer aspires to also pursue the art of becoming an actor thus leading him in a small but unique speaking role in the next Mark Wahlberg film in Albuquerque, NM. Multi-talented, accomplished, ambitious and driven by his passion to create and his love for music, DJ Amer is not a name from music’s past; it is the name of music now and an inspiration to music’s future.
