Child Safety
We have tried to make this brochure as comprehensive as possible. Protect your child by installing a child seat engineered to survive crash forces. Unlike your arms, it’s the safest method available for child protection in a car accident. FIND THE RIGHT SEAT • Use an infant-only seat for infants up to 14 kg. Keep it rear-facing and semi-reclined. Be sure the harness comes from slots at or below the baby’s shoulders and is snug when buckled. • Use your convertible child seat in a forward-facing and upright position for toddlers and children between 14 and 30 kg. Be sure the harness straps are coming from above the child’s shoulders. • For children between 30 and 45 kg use a belt-positioning-booster seat. • Children over 46 kg must pass the safety-belt-fit criteria before wearing a normal car safety belt. • Knees should bend naturally at the edge of the seat. • The lap belt should sit low on the hips. • The shoulder part of the seatbelt should rest on the shoulder or collarbone. • The child should be able to maintain this position the length of your trip.
NEVER DO THIS
ALWAYS REMEMBER • Place all children under 13 in a back seat. • Never place a rear-facing child seat in front of an airbag. • Use a child seat for all children until they can safely wear the adult seatbelt. • Be sure you have one seatbelt for every person. • NEVER place the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back. • Be sure all child seats are locked into the car using the LATCH system or the seatbelt.
