3D modeling I chose 3D modeling as my special study, because my Final Major Project is about furniture. I want to learn how to use 3D software for creating different pieces of furniture from photographic reference. It will be very useful for me for making furniture catalogues and advertisements. I am going to look what softwares are the most suitable for it and I will watch tutorials and start learning. I decided to use Cinema 4D, because it has loads of functions, which I need. I can also do animations with this program and it has loads of different effects, lighnining, material. Another reason why I chose C4D is because I can use it at University for free and there are plenty of tutorials online. Jay Payne was also gave me loads of advice which was very helpful.

Getting Started with cinema 4D I found loads of useful tutorials on Greyscalegorilla page. During these turials I will learn: • Moving Around and Affecting Objects • Manipulating Objects • Building Hierarchies and Adding Tags • Dynamics • Deforming Objects • Basics of Lighting • Materials and Textures • Applying Materials • Modeling with Splines and Nurbs • Mograph Cloners • Modeling Basics • Generator Modeling Tools • Environment • Animation • Rendering

I started building mine cart tunel with C4D. Greyscalegorilla has full set tutorials and each takes about one hour. During this turial I learnt how to light, model, animate, add dynamics and render my work. All the skills I learnt in this project I can easily use it for making furniture, interior design or anything else.

Creating soft body dynamic strings with C4D I found another tutorial, which was very interesting for me and I wanted to try it as well. In this tutorial I will learn all about the Soft Body Dynamics ‘Made of Clones’ option and how I can use it and the Mograph Module to create dynamic strings. This workflow is the best way I’ve been able to find to do this sort of thing without 3rd party plug-ins.

Making a chair After all these tutorials I decided to make 3D model of the chair. I am happy with my result, because I did not know how to use C4D at all and I had to start from the scratch. However I have to work on it more, especially with lightining and materials.

Packaging I changed my Final Major Project topic from Furniture store to Make up rebranding project. That is the main reason why I started looking at packaging and different ideas. I found some books in library with good examples and templates - New Packaging design by Kirkparick and Special Packaging by Pepin Van Joren. Inspired by these books I made some boxes for beauty boxes.

This template would be very useful for making boxes for pressed glitter or other eyeshadows. That is why I was experimenting with this box and I did different designs for it

Amazing glitters packaging

Beauty box

This template would be very useful for making Beauty Box, because it reminds cosmetic bag. I think customers would be interested me in this shape of packaging more than traditional boxes.

Pyramid I wanted to try pyramid package as well. First of all I tried to make a box with plain paper, after that I tried glossy, tick, golden paper. It was a lot harder to fold golden triangles, than from thin paper, so if I would cncider doing this package in future I would go for thinner material or I would get very strong gllue to stick it.

2 piece folding box I wanted to experiment more so I decided to make 2 piece folding box, which would be perfect for chocolate, but also I could use it for make up products if it would be bigger.

Foil stamping Foil stamping is a specialty printing process that uses heat, pressure, metal dies and foil film. The foil comes in rolls in a wide assortment of colors, finishes, and optical effects. Metallic foil is most commonly seen today – particularly gold foil, silver foil, copper foil, and holographic metallic foils – but foil rolls are also available in solid colors in both glossy and matte finishes. Early foil stamping was done using hand-set lettering or custom engraved dies. Because foil stamping was so labor intensive, early foil stamping was primarily restricted to book covers and literary titles. To print gold text on a book cover, printers used separate fonts of lead or brass type, with text assembled by hand, one letter at a time, or a custom engraved die with a single image. Once the text or die was assembled, it was loaded into a press, which then pressed thin sheets of metallic foil into a book cover or other material.

Embossing Embossing refers to the creation of an impression of some kind of design, decoration, lettering or pattern on another surface like paper, cloth, metal and even leather, to make a relief. In regular printing or an engraving, plates are pressed against the surface to leave an imprint. In embossing however, the pressing raises the surfaces adding a new dimension to the object. Embossing is an elegant process that changes the nature of the material that has been embossed. More often than not it elevates the standard and quality of the product. A notary’s embossed seal can give much weight to a regular piece of paper. Similarly, an embossed wedding card immediately changes the entire meaning conveyed by the invitation. The recipient is informed not only about the wedding but also that it is going to be a high profile wedding and an elegant ceremony. Embossing thus makes things more beautiful than they originally are. The simplest of object can become pieces of art worthy of the highest praise by using a technique as easy as embossing. Of course, how good an embossed object looks depends entirely on the quality of embossing. Poor quality embossing can completely kill the appeal of an object. However, good quality embossing can make an object positively breathtaking. Embossing involves the creation of an impression by placing the dies in contact with the stock under high pressure. Different kinds of paper show differ-

ent kinds of embossed effects. There are also many different kinds of embossing that can be done like blind embossing, tint embossing and glazing to achieve different results. The process of embossing is relatively inexpensive and has many uses. Embossing is used for aesthetic purposes as well as functional uses in industries. From embossing names on credit cards to embossed Braille books for the blind, embossing has a wide range of applications and uses.

For my final major project I am goinf to make packaging for cosmetic products. I will make tissue paper with GRETA’s logo on it, bags, beauty boxes, business cards, certificates, etc. That is why I m looking and analyzing embossing and foil stamping effect which gives more elegance to the material.
