The Agnes Irwin School empowers each girl to learn, to lead, and to live a legacy. One way this mission takes shape is through the search by each Upper School student to identify appropriate post-secondary opportunities suited to her unique gifts and capable of fulfilling her own boundless vision of success. Through this months-long quest, our students come to learn much about themselves and their life goals. As the well-earned offers of admission roll in, each Agnes Irwin senior can celebrate fully, knowing that she is prepared to step into a future she helped design. Preparing girls to lead and succeed is in our DNA. By the time our students graduate, they’re ready to succeed in whatever paths they choose.

When I sought more rigor in my courses, AIS teachers and department heads guided me through a transition to the honors level. I became much more confident in my academic abilities, and AIS faculty provided unwavering encouragement in shaping them.

The opportunity for interdisciplinary study at Agnes Irwin encouraged me to think creatively about how academic disciplines can work together in the real world. I discovered a passion for mathematics and social science and the freedom to apply them in different contexts.

When I describe my AIS community, I instantly think of the strong support systems I encountered daily among students. We relied on one another equally for academic or personal counseling.

Once you take a class with a teacher at AIS, you have a friend for life. My eighth-grade Algebra teacher, Mrs. Colclaser, was also my Precalculus and Calculus teacher and my senior class dean — and she has become one of the most special people in my life.

Agnes Irwin has prepared me to become a well-rounded individual. The electives became some of my favorite classes, with subjects that really resonated with me. They deepened my passion for the humanities. AIS is a positive and close-knit community, and the school traditions are very cool and fun. The fun and bonding experience students have here is unlike that at any other school.

About our Counselors Director of College Counseling Meg Scott joined Agnes Irwin in 2010 after directing the college counseling office at the Trinity School of Midland, TX, and has counseled hundreds of AIS families since that time. Meg has extensive experience in the college admissions world, having previously worked at an array of institutions, including a small, private liberal arts college, a large research institution, and a women’s college. At AIS, Meg leads the office, matching Agnes Irwin students with the right institutions of higher learning to support their goals. Associate Director of College Counseling Sarah Quin arrived at AIS in 2019 from an independent day school in NYC, where she worked in college advising. Before that, Sarah gained extensive experience in the field of elite college admissions, having worked at both Columbia University and Vanderbilt University, where, among other areas, she acted as the admissions liaison for the midAtlantic area and AIS students.

Juniors

Katherine ’22 She Chose: Vanderbilt University (recruited athlete for Division I lacrosse) Intended Major: Computer Science Agnes Irwin provided me with the blueprint to success by creating new classes in topics that interest me. My computer science teacher collaborated with the Media Arts teacher on a course for high-level comp sci students on website design (fonts, colors, UX design). This allowed me to combine my coding skills with my new design skills. Agnes Irwin’s secret superpower is the strength of its community. It is truly a place where women support other women.
