For over 150 years, The Agnes Irwin School has empowered girls to embrace the joy of learning, the wonder of curiosity, and the power of knowledge.
Nowhere is this mission more evident than the journey our Upper School students take toward their post-secondary future: identifying how they want to embark on the
next phase of their lives, what suits their unique talents, their specific interests, and their personal preferences.
This is a time where Agnes Irwin’s expertise in all-girls education shines, and when our close relationships with our students are invaluable. We guide them through their many choices, helping them navigate a path of self-discovery, prioritization, decisionmaking, and a weighing of values. In the
end, she’ll have not only outlined who she is as a soon-to-be graduate and college student, but she’ll deeply know what matters to her for her next chapter — and take these lessons with her as she accepts the best of her offers of admission. This thorough, joyful process is our passion. By the time our students graduate, they’re ready for any path they choose. Ready to be a success. Ready to be known.
Ready for her spotlight. Ready to be known.

Athletically, my coaches were always my biggest supporters and pushed me to take risks and improve both as a player and leader. The school spirit is unmatched, and the sisterhood brought me my best friends. Leaving Agnes Irwin, feel beyond prepared for my future endeavors and will always cherish the nine years that got to spend with my AIS family.
Orchie ’24
She Chose: University of Pennsylvania
Intended Major: Pre-Med
Agnes Irwin has helped me develop in all aspects of my life. Outstanding, passionate teachers taught me how to think critically and metacognitively. Growing up beside brilliant, kind young women, as well as the best teachers a student could ask for, brought out my full potential and helped me become the best version of myself.
Known for Exceptional Counselors
Director of College Counseling Maxine Mendoza Coleman joined Agnes Irwin in 2024 after serving in the college counseling offices at The Hotchkiss School (CT) and Tower Hill School (DE). Maxine has extensive experience in the college admissions world, having previously worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admission at The University of Pennsylvania, and as a seasonal reader for Vassar College. At AIS, Maxine leads the office, matching Agnes Irwin students with the right institutions of higher learning to support their goals.
Associate Director of College Counseling Sarah Quin arrived at AIS in 2019 from an independent day school in NYC, where she worked in college advising. Before that, Sarah gained extensive experience in the field of elite college admissions, having worked at both Columbia University and Vanderbilt University, where, among other areas, she acted as the admissions liaison for the mid Atlantic area and AIS students.
