William Atkinson Contemporary artist William Atkinson has been active in the art world for over a decade. Atkinson’s work first took the form of street art in Los Angeles, where he worked under the pseudonym ‘Insurgency Inc.’ As his artwork migrated into the gallery setting the artist began labeling the paintings with his given name, William Atkinson. While the artist continues to utilize elements from street art, such as symbolism and familiar imagery in artworks, his current work focuses predominantly on personal expression rather than an anonymous cultural critique. Atkinson’s multi-media works combine imagery from his day-to-day life with imagery from pop culture and street art, which are assembled into collaged pieces. Atkinson applies dynamic brush strokes and lines in a gestural mode to contrast the graphic imagery and leaves his process gestures exposed and unedited, conveying the energy and authenticity of a single unfiltered expressive moment. The lack of shading, and inclusion of negative space allows for a focus on both form and symbolism. The diverse range of materials and source imagery and the artist’s re-contextualization of figures and text prompts viewers of various backgrounds to consider new paths and perspectives of critical thought.

Marshall Gould The stunning photographs of artist Marshall Gould endeavor to tell stories that capture the decisive moment of an interesting subject while also elevating its beauty and emotional state. Though he uses modern digital equipment and software to create his works, Gould painstakingly works to maintain a technique and style that are reminiscent of the “Golden Age of Photography” which stretched from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. Residing in rural Northern California, his work explores Americana themes that deal with the rugged beauty of the western American landscape and the self-reliant perseverance of those who live there. Gould’s main subjects in his photographs are the semi-wild horses that roam a ranch near his home. Horses were absolutely indispensable for those who moved out to populate the American west, and as such Gould sees these subjects as emblematic of humans working in harmony with nature to exist. Further, by photographing the horses in the open space where they are allowed to live a mostly free existence, Gould is also drawing attention to creatures still existing in the natural world that we as humans need to consider in light of climate change. His photographs illustrate that humans and nature do not exist independently of one another, but truly coexist.

Lliam Greguez Photographer Lliam Greguez is inspired by Earth’s most basic elements, finding complex beauty in ice, air, and water. As a professional creative arts therapist, Greguez prioritizes the healing and clarifying capabilities that artwork can have on the audience and artist alike. Based in New York City the artist works in local hospitals using music to improve children’s emotional, physical, and mental health. Greguez celebrates wonder and appreciation for Earth in his yearly mountain hikes, describing his work as ‘a micro documentary’ of Earth’s ice which is being affected by climate change. From afar his artworks look abstract as though the images were painted or drawn, but they are in fact photographs depicting observations of nature particularly around the Catskill Mountains. Greguez uses macro-photography to capture details of textures and scenes such as thickened ice and frozen flora. Something as simple as the interaction of water and temperature provides inspiration for Greguez who predominantly prints the artwork using sublimated metal. He captures moments of ever changing states where air, liquid, and solid morph between themselves.

Christiane Palpant Christiane Palpant is an American artist living and working in Atlanta, Georgia. She is the daughter of award winning portrait artist Gail Palpant, who has passed on the artistic skill and tradition of oil painting to her daughter. From her mother, Christiane learned her strong sense of color, and formed her first ideas of communicating through artistic medium. Christiane’s work features abstract horizons and landscapes in which she uses dramatic and bold colors, to create psychologically and aesthetically engaging oil works on canvas. The immediate spectrum of color that Palpant employs shows her strong understanding and grasp on the medium. She pushes her style by incorporating one or more ambiguous light sources and perspective, which allow each piece to open itself up more with each viewing. Palpant draws from her experience with a recent health condition, after which she picked up her paintbrush with “prolific intention,” to create works that inspire inner calm and a sense of hope. Every bit of her journey is felt in each unique brushstroke.

Sal Ponce Enrile Sal Ponce Enrile aims for pure, uncensored expression. The Filipina painter creates energetic abstract compositions, employing acrylic, mixed media, and a variety of textures on canvas. She equates her paintings to controlled chaos, where contrasting colors and brushstrokes are fervently applied but manifest into an overall cohesive arrangement. Enrile’s oeuvre is a demonstration of resilience. She has a condition known as essential tremor, wherein her right-hand shakes uncontrollably, often making it difficult to draw simple straight lines. However, she has embraced this unique circumstance and allows her hands to flow freely to create work that is imperfect yet harmonious. Her background in politics has allowed her to witness firsthand the many challenges marginalized people face, and her work is heavily inspired by the people that she has publicly served for years. Enrile’s multilayered work reflects her experiences, desires, as well as her fears. She aspires to inspire strength and hope through her paintings, affirming that, “the more I paint, the more I can support the needs of others and help fulfill their dreams through the various charities that my work supports.”

Belle Roth Belle Roth explores human interconnection through her use of color, light, and architectural influences. Roth’s compositions are rooted in abstraction; deconstructed forms are unearthed and highlighted by both line and shape that coincide with shimmering gold, neutral color fields, and vibrant accent hues. Simple lines and organic form take the forefront, remaining unedited to reflect the moment of their creation. To create her pieces, Roth vigorously applies textured acrylics, spray paints, and gold leaf using several different techniques. Her works draw in elements from her Southeast Asian roots and celebrate joyous, unexplored opportunities. Roth creates powerful narratives centered around family, community, equality, and overcoming adversity; she intends her work to inspire ideas about our collective capabilities and hopes to inspire the pursuit of a better world.

Fabio Sanzogni Brimming with bold, clean colors, Fabio Sanzogni’s canvases express an emotional state of being. “An idea in space, not a definite object, is the major subject in the paintings,” says the artist. Integrating Eastern and Western techniques, Sanzogni creates landscapes and bodies imbued with the energy of life and creation. A sense of wonder is present in the bright reds, yellows and greens, giving his work a highly charged aura. With interaction as interplay, Sanzogni plays with a changing style. Orderly geometry is clearly and neatly at woven, or the viewer sees something more nebulous and loose. Either way, Sanzogni’s philosophy —that art is civilization’s map—is highly noted. Born in Italy, Sanzogni studied at an Atelier under the direction of master set designers and artists, producing over 120 theatrical sets for ballet, opera, TV, and the Torino Olympics. He has resided in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1992, and since then, has merged his fine art with an architectural decoration practice. His work can be seen in restaurants, hotels and residences in Northern California, including Castello di Amorosa Winery in Napa.

Mark Schiff Journeying around the world has ignited artist Mark Schiff ’s creativity, which he reveals through his watercolor, acrylic, and oil compositions. “Traveling reminds me that I am part of a vast universe filled with extraordinary places and interesting people. The adventure of travel gives me an expansive sense of freedom that often becomes the inspiration for many of my paintings,” says Schiff. His travels have taken him to diverse locations, and he explains that each journey heightens his capacity to embrace a wide spectrum of emotions that serve his creative process. Heavily influenced by his interest in culture, music, and yoga, Schiff ’s ability to be guided by intuition opens him to what he refers to as “the ocean of creativity within.” It is from this place that he paints with bold, deliberate strokes creating eye-catching paintings that sizzle with energy and command the viewers’ attention. Above all, Mark Schiff is a believer in the solidarity of humanity. After hearing his father’s experiences during WWII, Schiff was moved by the plight of war, its effect on people, and man’s inhumanity to man. “These stories inspired me to paint as a way to simply bring more beauty into our troubled world.”
