Abeer Al-Zaaied crafts bold, jewel-tone colored portraits that explore the rich cultural mosaic of Saudi Arabia, embodied by female figures and expressions. The women are depicted in simplified, minimalist forms, occasionally devoid of facial features, allowing the subjects to be interpreted by women everywhere who may relate to their own gender-related challenges. An emotional connection with the viewer is achieved through suggestive brush strokes and vivid palettes in acrylics, at times paired with other mediums, such as pastels for added texture and complexity. A passionate advocate for cultural innovation, Al-Zaaied is directly inspired by the evolving role and status of Saudi women as well as Saudi Vision 2030, a program created by the Saudi Arabian government to enhance economic, social, and cultural diversification. Through her art, Al-Zaaied celebrates the unity of her people while consecrating the enduring customs that define them.
