ADITYA VARDHAN

Interested in symmetry and crisp lines, photographer Aditya Vardhan offers a unique perspective of his surroundings. Vardhan uses black and white as well as color photography to capture stillness in a constantly fluctuating world, particularly in his hometown of Coimbatore, India where the constant bustle and movement pose barriers to the static requirements of capturing an image. Finding travel to be the antidote to the frantic pace of Indian cities, Vardhan has ventured to various locales throughout Asia to capture his signature quietude. Flow is a photo taken by the artist as he walked the streets of Singapore where he found inspiration in an architectural prowess that stood in stark contrast to the humble skylines of his home country. Minimalist compositions that he captures along his travels display the life of seemingly sterile objects and environs–but all objects hold a story. Synthesizing a background in commercial photography with an interest in travel and architecture, Vardhan opens a curiosity into the unknown dimension of objects. The ‘Withered’ series highlights the transience of organic materials while his ‘Neon Dream’ series takes a somnambulist approach to urban cityscapes, his purples and blues highlighting the dimensionality of angular structures.

The beneficiary of various honorable mentions, Vardhan is a celebrated photographer emerging from a professional background of home furnishing and the disciplines of animation and commercial photography. Symmetry and patterns emerge in Vardhan’s photographs reflecting his full-time profession and interest in architecture and home goods. The artist prefers his work to be felt and believes great art is experienced beyond the five senses.

Walking around my city, Coimbatore in southern India, or traveling through Asia, my camera in hand, I capture the symmetry and patterns of urban landscapes and the simple objects I find along the way or in my own home. My inspiration blossoms as I travel or peruse works by the Old Masters, arranging compositions that hail back to 16th and 17th century paintings. Adding my own sensitivity to the images, I offer new angles of reflection on deceptively sterile environments. I believe that, no matter the medium, art should not be seen or heard, but felt and experienced and I wish this to be true for my work.
