HARRY
Influenced by his great-grandfather, the original Harry T. Burleigh, a renowned baritone, Harry T. Burleigh III embarked on his own artistic journey exploring his unique style and techniques. As an artist, graphic designer, screenwriter, and musician, Burleigh draws from his abundant creativity and imagination. Applying traditional and contemporary practices, he works with oil, acrylic, mixed media, and digital imagery on canvas.
Burleigh combines surrealistic and abstract images while listening to music that complements his inspiration. His pieces are unplanned, with no preliminary sketches. Once he applies paint to the canvas, he lets the brush dictate the direction of the piece. The process is as crucial as the outcome, which he describes as deeply personal and meditative. His sinuous and lively imagery invites viewers to interpret it in their own way.
Burleigh graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. His work has been exhibited on building exteriors in New York City, Los Angeles, Monaco, and the London Tube. His newer paintings will be featured in the Fall 2024 issue of ArtTour International Magazine, which celebrates the dynamic fusion of fashion and art at New York Fashion Week, and in a monthlong in-flight exhibition with Vueling Airlines in July 2024.
HARRY T. BURLEIGH ON
My passion for art has always revolved around beauty, not just in people and places, but also in shapes and colors. I never know what or who will appear as I apply pigments to the canvas. The lingering mystery of not being certain of the results yet still being driven to produce them is what makes the effort of creation so captivating.
This, combined with innate pareidolia, by which I continuously see faces and figures in random surfaces, allows me to pull these images forward, seemingly from nothing, and present them, however subtly to the observer. An important conversation needs to occur between the viewer and my art, one that doesn’t involve me, and is silent and discreet. If my work speaks first, then the dialogue is afoot.
