JEREMIAH H A R R I N G T O N
530 West 25th Street, New York, NY
The art of Jeremiah Harrington acts as social commentary on a variety of subjects, such as labor, idealism, and mental integrity. Harrington pulls his commentary from his own psyche while also drawing upon objective observations of his surroundings. Thematically, he also incorporates the emotions and structures of his transition from homeschooling to regular school, which encouraged him to deeply consider his relationship to the world around him. His themes manifest in his work in a realist style inspired by Classicism, Neoclassicism, Impressionism, and 1960s Pop. Harrington began creating art at age eleven. In high school, after honing his skill in art classes and seminars, he started sourcing commissions for his work. Nowadays, he frequently receives requests for portraiture, pop culture, and landscape works. Over the years, Harrington has accrued more and more technical proficiency and now combines this technical skill with the raw material of his imagination. Harrington is currently pursuing a degree at the Rhode Island School of Design and pushing his material boundaries each day, experimenting with different techniques like three-dimensionality. His work combines the concepts of personal identity with social identity, marked by Harrington’s unique ability to channel his individual perceptions into universal motifs. The profoundly affective quality of his art asks us to examine our own social locations and how we fit into our own communities.

My present goal as an artist is to espouse maximum precision in line quality, color, and other aspects, while not strictly emulating realism. I work primarily in graphite, charcoal, watercolor, pen, and marker, incorporating classical and neoclassical stylistic elements into my compositions. I communicate philosophical ideals and feelings using a model of work that usually pertains to either societal mechanisms or the self. Combining technical proficiency with a particular message has also helped me solidify my own identity and purpose as I navigate life.
