In both fields, Marc Provisor excels through his ability to see the full picture and establish creative solutions to presented challenges; he analyzes the positive and negative spaces, the light and the dark, the form or lack thereof, the moments of tension and the moments of calm. Marc presents a series of landscape paintings that address the raw, dark emotions of the violence he has seen in his career with the gentility and softness of the natural world, reflecting his love of life and the world he works to protect. Provisor’s landscapes are saturated with deep emotion and intense colors. Gazing at these panoramas, the viewer is able to find moments of tension or despondence balanced by sensual magnetism or graceful reflection. Impressions of volume are permeated by quixotic light and lend the works an almost sculptural quality. Provisor intends his works to be vistas of the world through his unique lens; “the beauty and the chaos, passion, fragility, and the inherent strength of people.”

A painter starts his process with an empty canvas, an idea, a concept. He takes in his surroundings, his ideas, the materials he must work with in order to produce the art. The idea, the vision must be composed, space must be defined in the dimension he chooses and then applied. It’s all just a composition waiting to be played out. My palette is flexible and developing, adapting to the “canvas” I set before myself. I try to give the viewer a glimpse through my unique lens, to envision what I see and experience. The beauty, the chaos, the passion, fragility and the inherent strength of people and of the planet on which we live. My mentor once asked me to describe a painting of mine. I started explaining, describing, discussing. He became upset with me. He said to me “Are you a philosopher or a painter? Use three words or less to describe your work”. I love color, I love form, I love paint. This is the way that I speak from the inside.
