I started painting as a way to cope with personal trauma and the debilitating effects of an illness. I create large vibrant pieces using a pouring technique with acrylic and oil paints. Although I use brushes, I like to paint with my bare hands, establishing a deeply intimate relationship with my work, without any physical barriers. I begin by applying a thick layer of gesso to add texture. I then pour three or four colors, letting the paint flow as I tilt the canvas in various directions. Recently, I have been experimenting with adding frames that I have refurbished and using a butane torch for added effects. My inspiration comes from nature and outer space. I am fascinated with the atmospheric phenomena of the cosmos and the wondrous complexities of our galaxy. I convey the powerful forces of a summer storm, the beauty of the sea, or the eruption of a volcano. My work carries a message of strength and resilience, encouraging other women to process their fears and suffering through creativity and bringing color and hope to the world.
