MIEKO NAKAMURA
Japanese contemporary artist Mieko Nakamura finds value in simple daily life. She creates works based on the aesthetic sense of Japanese culture, cultivated through tea ceremony, calligraphy, flower arrangement, and Japanese poetry. The genre, materials, and production process of her work depend on her inspiration and sensibility, which she sources from moments in her daily life. There is a brightness, energy, and humor expressed across her lively canvases. As she strategically places calligraphy inks and paints onto the canvas, Nakamura places them organically and holistically, with an emphasis on spatial orientation. Her methods and styles offer a wholly contemporary aesthetic, accented by hints of her Japanese heritage. She hopes her works convey her desire for peace and simplicity. Nakamura was born in Mikuni, Fukui Prefecture, Japan, and currently lives and works in Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture. She has studied calligraphy from a young age and has continued to throughout her life. After studying painting, aesthetics, and tea ceremony at university. She continued her arts education after university, where she really honed her artistic crafts. She has been deeply engaged in the arts throughout her life, encountering artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Tadahiro Ono. She has drawn significant inspiration from those artists into her life and work.

I value a simple daily life. What I express is life, daily life, and the universe that is the source of it. I create works based on the aesthetic sense of Japanese culture cultivated through tea ceremony, calligraphy, flower arrangement, and Japanese poetry. The genre, materials, and production process of the work depend on the inspiration and sensibility that comes from each moment of daily life. I hope that the brightness, energy, and humor that are expressed throughout my works will be conveyed to people, and that the world will be calm and peaceful.
