Stunning conifer forests, pristine lakes, imposing snow-capped mountains, and above all flowers, lots of them. Canadian painter Rachelle Brady has a glorious display of natural wonders right at her doorstep. Deeply in love with her country’s beauty, she captures the surrounding landscapes with swift, lively strokes, resulting in dynamic, yet elegant impressionistic tableaux. Brady’s most remarkable body of work is her flower series. Large bouquets of vibrantly colored blooms explode on canvas with infectious joy. Executed mostly in oils using a palette knife, Brady’s paintings have a pleasant tactile, luminous quality. During the short Canadian summer, Brady finds inspiration in her own garden, hosting sunflowers, peonies, ranunculi, and irises. In the colder months, she procures fresh bouquets from the store every week for reference. Like a ray of sunshine on a foggy day, Brady’s exquisite compositions bring cheerful elation to every room. Before pursuing her art career in 2005, Brady worked for an oil and gas company for ten years. She participated in numerous local exhibitions and juried shows and was commissioned thirteen pieces for the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Hotel, in Alberta, Canada. Brady lives in Calgary with her husband and small son, with whom she likes to regularly hike, bike, and ski.

I am deeply affected by my surroundings. My main source of inspiration comes from the beautiful nature of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, where I frequently hike with my husband and small son. I love the lakes, the trees, the snowcapped peaks, and the bright colors of the autumn foliage. However, I feel that my strongest body of work and that which represents me more intimately is my florals. Flowers have the power to light up a room with sunshine, even in the darkest and most challenging moments. In my garden, I planted sunflowers, peonies, ranunculi, and irises; a great source of inspiration for my compositions. In the colder months, I make sure to have a fresh bouquet of flowers in my studio each week for reference. I like to work on a very large scale, letting my blooms expand on the canvas like explosions of joy. My paintings are designed to evoke emotion, radiate contentment, and bring happiness. I want to share this with others, and hope they feel the same.
