Auckland, New Zealand Skateboard photography exhibition The artist gave the skateboard to a whole bunch of random places and the painted them, and they put it in a gallery. It was awesome told our contributor from New Zealand. Four of their top skateboard photographers are showing off the best. That’s skateboarding jargon for their best footage. Skateboarding was probably born sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s when surfers in California, wanted something to surf when the waves were flat. Since then, most of us have tried skateboarding at least once, maybe twice. The fact is, for some it comes quite natu-

rally, for others, it is quite the opposite. Photographer Mark Barber is the editor of New Zealand Skateboarder magazine, and put forward his favorite photos for the exhibition, although in a refreshing sort of way, he is not convinced they will sell. “It’s probably going to sound really negative but why would anybody buy a photo of a person they don’t know doing a trick they don’t understand doing a move they don’t know, but that’s probably just me being negative about it.” In the world of skating magazines, David Read is Mark Barber’s nemesis - well, sort of. He is the co-founder of New Zealand’s other big skateboarding magazine, Manual and has been braving skate photography for 12 years. Like Barber, Read has put some of his favorite photos up for sale, along with fellow skating photographers Simeon Patience and Kevin Francis. All of whom happen to be pretty good skaters themselves. For Skate lovers Thanks Drix From Auckland

Skateboard ban in Norway The use, ownership and sale of skateboards were forbidden in Norway, during the period between 1978 and 1989. The ban was said to be due to the perceived high number of injuries caused by boards. The ban led skateboarders to construct ramps in the forest and other secluded areas to avoid the police.
