What do you think about?
P
eace, how many thoughts about peace did you have the last months? Philosophically, how would you think peace would be possible? Are you totally in peace? We are all humans, we have the same rights, do people in the countries with conflicts don’t have the right of peace? Should we take a look to China-Tibet, Russia-Georgia, USA-Iraq, Israel, Uganda, Africa poor countries to know something is not working on, and what about terrorism? Where do it comes from? Does capitalism is still the best way? After 29 depression (The Great What is Novo Arte? Can we do something? or are our governments able to solve or control the situation in a good way? Even New World Order, Greenpeace, Les Droits de l’homme (Human Rights), UN (United Nations), can’t make it alone; artists are a great force to move mountains, cross long distances with a single fragment. Why don’t we use it like a new peace movement? Does OTAN

have sense when humans still can’t be able to solve the most of our problems? Are we all involved? Arts can make a difference it can make us develop. All movements and revolutions on history had an important relation with arts. How should our artists make a movement making for example Uganda issues important for a group of persons in Mongolia? That would be a goal for this edition, making people be interested on what arts are, and what them are for. That’s what our magazine wants you to get on mind this time. Hope you enjoy it like I do. Wait soon the next edition. For comments on what you want for the last edition 2008 send me an e-mail with suggestions.

São Paulo, Brazil That is Avenida Paulista (Paulista Avenue). Probably the most known and busiest avenue from São Paulo (or from the whole country? I should check that).
Bogota, Colombia BOGOTRAX independent festival of art and electronic music. Since so much time has been planned a new festival that joins urban arts, fine arts, culture and multimedia process with electronic sounds. It was born in Bogotá with a purpose of creating a urban laboratory with international participants. It’s an independent festival managed by Microchipcha.
Many people from other states fear this place without even knowing it, especially those from small towns. Of course, it can be scary, it’s understandable. It’s the most important business center of the state, it’s always crowded (while some, or most, street and avenues of city are empty after 9pm - besides those streets filled with bars and nightclubs - you can easily see a good amount of people walking around at ANY hour of the day).
Bogotrax consists in series of presentations on outdoors, events at bars, workshops, conferences, radio shows and presentations in universities. All the events are free accessed. The entire artist presented on the events had been selected on a casting, open to all new artists from Bogotá.
But to sum the whole avenue and its streets nearby to a business center only it’s largely unfair. The place is much, much more than that. It has malls, restaurants, pubs, bars, theaters, movie theaters, hotels, schools, colleges, museums, bookstores, hospitals, gyms, etc, etc and etc. It has much more than many cities in this country have. Here are a few things you shouldn’t miss.
This time, with the aim of opening a new style of communication and cultural exchanges will be hang an event called Pro-Bogotrax on different cities such as Mexico city, Barcelona, Paris, Caracas, Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Medellin, Berlin and Vienna, with simultaneous links that will allow to expand music and visual arts from different places on the world. Thanks Harrison from Colombia. http://bogotrax.org/
Buenos Aires, Argentina San Telmo Fair - “Streeth Museum” Plaza Dorrego (Dorrego Park), is a little fair made all weekends in a neighborhood so little, old and beautiful. Stuk, Belgium criminal who has found a loophole in the law. The exhibition features four existing works and his latest film Nobody Is romantic anymore, a co-production with STUK. In Happy Birthday from Shkodra TV (2003) he mixes traditional Albanese elements with the contemporary art world. A local Albanese TV-station invites spectators to dedicate videos to their friends’ birthdays. Photographs of the birthday boy or girl are edited in popular video clips. Adrian Paci had clips made as a tribute to some famous artists, including Francis Alys, Anri Sala and Candice Breitz. STUK is also showing three exisiting films: Piktori, I Love the gallerists and they love me (2001) and Believe me I am an artist (2000). In the latter, we see Adrian Paci at a police station being heard on his daughters’ photographs in his works. Adrian Paci’s films have a direct, frontal style; he uses film or cinema as a strategy to tell seemingly truthful stories about reality. He plays with fiction and documentary film. His latest film Nobody is romantic anymore tells the story of an Albanian man in New York working as an artist. Through the painter’s eyes, we see the Western ideal of freedom, and his urge to create. Adrian Paci invites the spectators to an open story in which he shows fragments from the painter’s life. Without putting too much drama into it, he presents portraits of people and artists who try to overcome difficult situations. Adrian Paci’s sharp portraits of today’s society are intimate and at the same time universal. His narrative videos show the fault-lines in people’s daily lives. His work is focused on the social reality of his home country. His films balance between autobiographic reports and collective stories. In narrative videos, he shows how the people’s identity is determined by social and political circumstances. The exhibition is his first solo show in Belgium. He studied art in Albania before the fall of the totalitarian regime and the subsequent disturbances. In 1997 fled with his family to Italy, where he has lived and worked since. In his work the artist focus on the dynamics of instability, of being in between and the consequences of social, political and cultural changes on people’s day-to-day lives. His own background is the base for a broader, collective story. He questions the artists’ position in society and the notion of art. He reproduces paintings, falsifies certificates and designs plates for shops. He has transformed into a dealer, compromising his artistic talent to survive. The artist here has become a small

Toulouse, France KRISTOPHE PANI 81 rue Saint-Roch Toulouse Saint-Agne. Métro Ligne B station Saint-Agne SNCF Welcome to my world. I’m an autodidact of 41 years old, after passhaving passed by different kinds of creations I tried painting. I tried to imagine characters transformed in the next years have mutants by genetics and pollution, beings half-human half-monsters. I like also the aspect of the impression, of the urgency, better than a photograph, or a painting, or returned blows of brushes give a fixed aspect and less outstanding, the printed immortalized, the urgent present has life. I’d love to tell more but I cannot speak about what I make, one would like or doesn’t what I make but at least people speak about it. I hope you have a good visit and do not hesitate leaving a comment with your opinion. Bienvenidos a mi mundo. ARTIST Artist 7 Thinkings of an anonimus artist. The most illuminating is a mind that is thoroughly cleansed of dirt, and which, remaining pure, retains no blemishes. From the time when there was yet no heaven and earth till the present day, there is nothing in the ten quarters which is not seen, or known, or heard by such a mind, for it has gained all-knowledge, and for that reason it is called ‘illuminating’.
Your misdeeds were not committed by your parents, nor by your brothers and sisters, nor by your friends nor kinsfolk, nor by recluses and priests, it is you who are responsible.
