the designer behind,
I’m Apshari Puspaningrum, an Interior Designer with over two years of experience in designing thoughtful and functional spaces. I graduated from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember with a degree in Interior Design, where I also gained valuable hands-on experience through two internships.
My professional journey has given me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from private residences to public spaces, with a particular focus on residential design during my full-time role. I enjoy creating spaces that feel warm and inviting, often incorporating natural colors and harmonious elements like repetitive and intersecting lines. While I have a distinct style, I’m always eager to explore new design approaches, as I believe versatility and creativity are key to crafting unique environments tailored to each client’s needs.
Making harmony and balance between classic and modern design elements.
This two-story house in Grogol, West Jakarta, underwent renovation in 2022 to harmoniously blend its classic architectural elements with the freshness of modern interior design. The goal was to create a timeless and functional space by integrating modern aesthetics whilepreservingkeyclassicelements.Additionally, reusing and repurposing old kitchen cabinets not only reduced renovation costs but also contributed to a light and clean look.
Before renovation, the kitchen was cluttered and dim, dominated by dark wood finishes and heavy marble surfaces. The use of excessive wood profiles and wasted cabinet space made the area feel even narrower.
The existing kitchen cabinets were refinished with light wood and ivory tones, creating a brighter and more spacious atmosphere. The neutral-warm undertones of the light wood complemented the existing windows and doors, adding a cozy and welcoming feel. Bronze mirrors and glass elements were incorporated to unify contrasting materials while maintaining visual balance. To fulfill the client’s request for terrazzo patterns, a subtle design was chosen to harmonize with the classic architectural style and support the clean, light look. Additional cabinets were installed above the original ones, eliminating wasted space and providing ample storage for seldom-used items.
The ceiling was redesigned for a minimalist aesthetic by replacing the outdated glass panels and adding modern pendant lighting, enhancing the overall contemporary vibe.
The project extended to the family room, where a large existing wall became a focal point. A striking white marble-patterned wall panel was installed, lending refinement and timelessness to the space while visually connecting it to the modern kitchen elements.
Bronze mirror accents, used sparingly in the kitchen, were applied more extensively here to amplify reflections and avoid monotony. A custom display cabinet was added to house the client’s crystal collection, with LED lighting to showcase the pieces elegantly.
Creating comfortable and intimate sanctuary in modern designed bedroom.
Design process isn't just about making the place beautiful to the eyes, but it's also about fulfilling the user's needs then reflecting the user's interest and identity. This bedroom is completed in muted and slightly darker tones to embrace the feeling of intimacy as the main goal is to make a private sanctuary away from the noise of the city-kind of bedroom.
Thebedframewascustomizedasaplatformbedtohavemoreadditional storage inside of this 9m2 bedroom. It also used some contemporary materials such as fluted glass on the wardrobe and a cement-like finishes as the wallpanel to representate the user's interest and making the area more sophisticated. The rounded corner used on the furnitures help to build contemporary feeling inside.
In front of the bed area, there's a wallpanel and TV cabinet for adding more aesthetic and function use in this bedroom. The wallpanel used the same cement-like finishes, connecting both walls with the same characteristic. The old and abstract shaped ceiling also got taken out, replaced for more minimalistic ceiling with touch of LED light around the room as ambient lighting. The existing ceramic tiles got replaced by wood pattern SPC flooring, making the room feels warmer and homey even with muted colors.
Serenity in light and organic modern bedroom design
Instead of using muted grey color, this bedroom used a brighter color combination which is ivory with lighter and warmer woodgrain finishes. This color and material combination makes the two bedroom a contrast with each other while using almost the same furniture layout. Making the design reflects the user personality and characteristic which is calm and quiet. The difference with the first bedroom is also the way it used more arc and round elements to make the design looks less masculine. It can be seen more on the customized handle on the cabinets. On the design, it also used a fabric pattern finish on the headboard panel, making it the point of interest and highlight the whole room.
Whileusingalmostthesamelayout, the area in this bedroom is divided into three areas based on each functional category. The platform bed is one the same area with the entertainment area so the user can feel more organized while doing activites inside. The working area is on the opposite side to make the user feels more focused and making the wardrobe wider and so it can be filled with the user's belongings more. There's a bespoke mirror design inside the working table that allows the user to still have vanity table while still having a wide workspace.
Warming up a cluster house with earthy tone and japandi elements.
Located in BSD, South Tangerang, this three-story house seamlessly incorporates Japandi elements to create a serene and welcoming atmosphere. Designed for a working couple seeking a tranquil retreat from their busy lives, the project embraces natural tones, wood patterns, and minimalist aesthetics inspired by their preferences.
Originally, the second floor featured a living room, pantry, bathroom, and a workspace. To enhance the sense of openness, the small bathroom was removed, creating an open-plan layout that integrates the living room and pantry. This change not only maximized space but also fostered a more inviting and expansive ambiance.
The design is characterized by intersecting and repetitive lines that create clean yet captivating geometric patterns, complementing the Japandi style. Natural finishes, particularly warm wood tones, connect the living and pantry areas, fostering a cozy and harmonious environment.
The pantry features a sintered stone countertop in a classic Statuario marble pattern, adding a subtle touch of luxury to the otherwise modest material palette. A large mirrored wall panel serves both aesthetic and functional purposes by filling an empty wall and visually expanding the space. Full-height cabinets in the pantry area contribute to a clutter-free and streamlined look.
In the living room, which shares the open-plan space with the pantry, functionality and simplicity take center stage. A large storage unit near the entrance hides the electrical panel while doubling as a shoe cabinet. This eliminates the need for upper cabinets, keeping the space bright and open.
light bamboo pattern finishes and repetitive lines for a quiet leisure time inside small bedrooms.
The master bedroom was originally a compact 9 m² but was expanded to 15 m² by removing a wall near the staircase and a small void. This adjustment allowed for improved circulation and a more functional division between the sleeping and wardrobe areas. The bed takes center stage, flanked by two symmetrical storage units on either side. Above the bed, a full-height wall panel with geometric patterns and fabric finishes serves as a standout feature. Opposite the bed, a wardrobe doubles as a TV panel and room divider, creating a walk-in closet area for added functionality.
Unlike the second floor, the bedroom design incorporates light bamboo patterns and fabric finishes, evoking a distinct Japanese aesthetic while maintaining a warm, homey vibe. Repeated grid patterns and intersecting lines on the wall panel and wardrobe ensure visual harmony and continuity.
Residential Project 2024
The kid's bedroom features the same light bamboo pattern and fabric finishes, maintaining a warm and cozy atmosphere. To create a softer, more organic feel, the furniture incorporates curved and arched shapes, which are not only visually appealing but also safer for children. A padded headboard and fabric wall panels around the bed frame enhance safety while adding an extra layer of style and comfort to the design.
A combination of natural hues and pattern inside a modern designed house.
The second floor of this three-story house in Gading Serpong, South Tangerang, serves as an additional service area, primarily designed for extra storage. Despite its functional purpose, the space was designed to remain visually appealing by incorporating thoughtful aesthetic elements.
The lower cabinets prioritize storage, while the upper cabinets are paired with open display shelving to prevent the furniture from feeling too bulky or closed-off. A bronze mirror panel was added to brighten the space and create a more uplifting ambiance. To break up the neutral tones, a small bench with a blue suede cushion was introduced, providing a subtle pop of color that adds contrast and prevents the area from feeling monotone.
There's also kid's bedroom on the second floor where it used a murphy bed design to safe more space while the room isn't used for rest. The color combination is a bit different with the entire moodboard of the house by using more contrast and vibrant color such as a combination of sage green, brick red, ivory and light warm wood pattern to connect it again with the moodboard.
Coastal inspired modern house, a retreat away from the city.
Located in Gunung Sindur, this cluster house is a cozy retreat situated just 30 minutes from the bustling city of South Tangerang. The 8 x 10 m, two-story home was designed for a family with two children, balancing functionality with a touch of coastal-inspired charm.
On the first floor, the compact space adopts an open-plan layout for the kitchen and living room, maximizing light and creating a sense of openness. Coastal elements are subtly integrated through the choice of colors and materials: light wood patterns evoke sandy shores, the grey cabinetry reflects the natural tones of beach rocks, and accents of blue provide a vibrant highlight in the decor. Adding a unique touch, the kitchen features a chevron-pattern backsplash reminiscent of fish bones, further enhancing the seaside aesthetic. Additionally, a large wood-pattern wall panel serves as a focal point, cleverly concealing a camouflage door that leads to the bathroom and a small storage area beneath the stairs. This design blends the relaxed, breezy vibe of coastal living with sleek, contemporary lines, making it an ideal family retreat.
The second floor houses the master bedroom and kids' bedrooms. The master bedroom features a large wall panel accented with fabric-padded sections. A modified chevron pattern, this time in a muted grey tone, is incorporated into the design, adding subtle texture and elegance. The color palette is intentionally kept soft and neutral, creating a timeless and serene atmosphere. In contrast, the kid's bedroom embraces a bolder approach with light blue accents prominently featured on the display cabinet. This pop of color adds vibrancy and playfulness to the space, reflecting the youthful energy of its occupant.
