Welcome to SCMSA It is with utter pride and glee we, the family of SCMSA, present to you our LC end term report. Within the pages of this report, you will find that despite the usual hardship in every medical student’s life, we never stopped gathering around all year long, conducting products and organizing events, proving to ourselves and others, that Medical students have the most influential impact on their society.

Recruitment campaign Our recruitment campaign has been held over three successive days using our unique themed system that has always been successful in grapping everyone's attention starting from first year students and till interns. During the campaign we were able to get a large number of new memberships and many of these new members have shown great enthusiasm and you will be seeing them around for a long time in our IFMSA-Egypt various activities.

Local GA After recruiting and finishing exams, That was the perfect time to hold a Local SCMSA GA. It aimed at introducing SCMSA in more detail to our new members and to share the board's vision of the new term with all members. Board members gave short account about their respective committees followed by detailed longer sessions all over the week with their teams (Which was called SCMSA Week). The Local GA was a huge success. It brought all SCMSA family closer to each other and gave out the chance for new ideas to burst from the minds of the new members. During the GA, we have been honored by the presence of Ex-board members , Dr/Ahmed Rashid SCMSA Ex-sec gen ,Dr/ Ahmed Shokry SCMSA Ex-LPO , Dr/Mohammed Abdelrahman SCMSA Ex-LORA and Dr/Ramy Genaid SCMSA Ex-president and IFMSAEgypt president.

Standing Committees' reports

1)  

Diabetes campaign:

Attended the WDD 2014 in Alexandria Local campaigns : as shown in the photos.

 Outcomes: about 600 people received the health education about diabetes , 400 were got their blood pressure measured & 500 were blood glucose measured

Being Extraordinary! SCMSA also cooperated with the child department in Suez Canal university hospital and made a “Diabetic children day” for 50 diabetic children & their families >> the families received health education about healthy diets, precautions, how to deal with their kids, etc…

2) 

Anti drug-addiction :

The local workshop: about 30 SCMSA members attended the three days

The campaigns: 11 schools in Ismailia city were covered by a training for three days each  Awareness for the youth : by distributing booklets among the pharmacies The booklets include information about the dangers of drugs and how to stop using it.

Build your body :

We have attended the national training in the GUC then we have outreached our campaigns in 2 schools in Ismailia as was scheduled nationally In each school about 150 students received the health education with total 300 students .

We have attended the national TB day & workshop 2-outreach campaigns with number of reached people 600 .

We have attended the national workshop Organized a local workshop :

SCMSA SCOPH cooperated with other NGOs (Resala + Takatof + EPEA +AYB) in organizing an amazing workshop attended by 45 active members who became ready to conduct a lot of campaigns in the rural areas & villages in Ismailia .

Campaigns: - As there weren't any national materials we designed a brochure & printed it 1500 copies which were all distributed among the public.

Vaccination: the first and second dose of the vaccine were taken and we are preparing for the third dose, about 150 received 2 doses

1) Human Rights project n Phase 1: National online campaign We collected data including videos, pictures, drawings, posts, and quotes on our topic "freedom of thought" .Then we started sharing the data on social media to spread the knowledge worldwide

Phase 2: Local training We held our human rights training on Sunday 13th April. It included 4 sessions: 1. The first session was about the history of human rights in which we talked about people who fought for human rights, how the declaration of human rights was created and the precursors from which it was taken. We also discussed the role of United Nations in peace and fighting crimes against humanity. We presented the crimes that happened in different parts of world. We declared the number of countries in which everybody could express his opinion freely. 2. Second session was about the universal declaration of human rights. we gave a task to the attendance, they have formed groups with each other, each group was given a chart and markers and they were asked to express their opinion in declaration by words, song, or drawing. After they have finished, each group presented their work. 3. The third session was about anti-psychiatric stigma. 4. The fourth session was a communication skills training to help with the campaign later on

Phase 3: the local campaign: We made lots of human rights logos and gave them to students and they took photos with them. We made a human rights tree, its idea was to right a right on each green leave on the tree. We also made a big chart on the wall and it was about wishes to be happened in human rights. There were a lot of drawings about human rights and freedom of thought. We made a corner for "people who fought for human rights" and it included persons in history of human rights and their role and of course we discussed the declaration

2) Blood donation campaigns We held 2 campaigns, one in each term. Each campaign lasted for 5 days, the first two were for awareness about blood donation along with ABO blood typing, and the other 3 days were for the actual donation. On the first campaign we were able to collect 130 blood bags (which is considered a record in our college: D ) The second campaign wasn’t the same success due to the delays and the fact that there were almost no students in the college which lead to the collection of 30 blood bags only over the 3 days

3) Cancer Patient reinforcement project: Phase I: Fund Raising     BUT. . .

We started the project with the fund raising phase, It lasted from 20th March to 4th April Each OC member could spread the idea and the aim of the project and people were very helpful. We managed to raise 1756 L.E as Primary Fund. We were also helped by the new Faculty of Medicine in Port Said in raising fund. WE COULDN’T CARRY OUT MORE FUND RAISING EVENTS DUE TO THE EXAMS!

On Friday 19thSeptember, there will be a Marathon and Cycling event to raise fund for the Cancer Kids, organized by: SCMSA & Ismailia runners & Ismailia cyclists

Phase II: Data Collection & Local visits: As for this phase the schedule is to carry up a visit for each of the following Hospitals to assess the number of Cancer kids, their cancer types, rate of beds occupation, their basic medical needs and what we can do for them. Later on, we will visit those centers for psychological support, the visits will be during the second and third week of September. Sunday 7th September Ismailia Teaching Oncology Hospital

4) Blind Rights project: Phase 1 : National Blind Rights TOT SCMSA delegation attended the training

Phase 2: Local training A training session was held on the 11th of May that lasted for about 120 min with 22 attendants The training included :1) an introduction to the project and previewing and discussing it's goals by the LC 2) A session about how to deal with a blind 3) A training about team building

Phase 3: Local visit to a local visit to El-noor school for blinds and local campaign … Those are to be done by the end of September

5) Students’ rights project: Phase 1: Preparation of the S.R national booklet We collected Data from the students living in university residence and then made a report about it . We translated 6 files from English to Arabic and sent all of the files finished for the National Coordinator Phase 2: National online campaign We have recorded videos about the project, 3 of them were uploaded on IFMSA YouTube Channel. WORLD AIDS CAMPAIGN The WAC project was held in December 2013 in Suez Canal school of medicine. The project was divided into three days: The first day was training about raising the attendees’ awareness concerning AIDS and there were about 30 attendees and they all shared their questions and concerns about AIDS and the training was meant to have all the questions answered. The second day was the on-field campaign in which the training attendees targeted medical students in the college and started to spread questionnaires among them to assess their knowledge towards the disease, we collected about 250-300 questionnaires, and at the end of the day we started to spread brochures and fliers among the students in order to raise their awareness. The last part of the project was the celebration day, and there was a short play about stopping stigma towards AIDS patients.

FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER Our project was divided into two stages: First a local training with attendance of 67 from both clinical and pre-clinical study years targeting at raising the awareness of our faculty’s students about Breast Cancer. Second, the training attendees organized an outreach campaign to inform the public about this problem. our campaign started in Al-Bahtini “rural area in Ismailia “ and We succeeded to deliver the message to 30 ladies then in collaboration with “Ismailia Runners” , we organized a campaign to spread the word among youngsters on the street, those participating in the event and those who are not

Suez Canal Medical Students’ Association ‫الجمعية العلمية لطالب الطة جامعة قناة السويس‬ STAND AGAINST FGM (FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION) We participated in the online the campaign then a local training was held with 23 attendees aiming at raising their awareness about FGM hazards, social and religious myths of FGM. The trained attendees then held an outreach campaign in our faculty to raise the awareness of medical students about FGM hazards and the myths regarding FGM. We collected pre and post awareness questionnaires assessing their knowledge about FGM and the false believes in our society and we collected about 200 questionnaires.

SCMSA-SCORA held an online campaign “stand against endometriosis”.

SCMSA had delegates during all SCORA sessions in IFMSA-Egypt national GAs and IFMSA-Egypt winter camp.

SCMSA-SCORA had a project presentation “fight against breast cancer” at MUST natio nal GA.

SCMSA delegation was sent to World AIDS day celebration participating in the organizing team as well.

SCMSA participated in the national team of the booklet of “Women around the clock”.

SCMSA participated in Movemeber national campaign against testicular cancer.

1) Recruitment campaign : SCOME attract new members and formed SCOME team after recruitment (members from first and second year )

2) Post Graduation Opportunities Conference 2014 Attendants were about 110 doctors, In This event we offered an opportunity to learn about Medical career paths in FOUR countries!! We had speakers from SCORE center who gave sessions about USMLE and other post-graduation paths.

3) Medical Arabic Roots (preparing the data for it): National event started its first phase online for collection data: We started the online phase after collecting the data by the team of MAR and collecting data from doctor such as Dr. Ahmad El-Sakka and we will share his experience and we waiting for the second phase (( National conference ))

4) Students' Rights (in collaboration with SCORP (national event) National event with collaboration with SCORP (our local coordinator Mr. Amr Hassan attended this event) and we are waiting for the local event. We collected the Data and made a video for the students in our faculty and it was shared on IFMSA-Egypt page

5) Good Medical Practice (national event) National event in SSS and had a session about medical practice and doctor patient relationship.

Starting in the Recruitment campaign, we made a unique booth for exchange that attracted everyone’s attention.

Quota Preparation: made a quick survey to have an idea about the market preference in SCMSA for the term 2013/2014 Quota Advertising: FB event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1407657322803117/?ref=5 SCMSA was present in all exchange sessions during different national GAs , IFMSA-Egypt fifth winter camp and the LOEs/LOREs weekend of exchange in Elain-Elsokhna as well. SCMSA also was there in the exchange sessions during the AM in Taiwan. Our exchange members have participated actively in different taskforces during the term including participation in the advertising waves. We have also enjoyed hosting seven incomers this summer and we had the honor of organizing this year's National Weekend in Sharm Elsheikh and Dahab with more than 80 foreign students.

SCMSA 17th Summer School For the seventeenth year SCMSA had assured its reputation as one of the best organizers of tropical summer schools not only in Egypt but all over the world. This year's summer school was held from the 3rd and till the 17th of August with the participation of over 30 students from all over the world. The incoming students received scientific training on tropical medicine and infectious diseases in 3 different hospitals. They attended problem based learning classes and different lectures on the same course. The social program involved trips to Cairo, Alexandria, Port-said and others. The summer school students also got the chance to join the National Weekend in Sharm El-Sheikh. This year’s Summer School received encouraging feedback from all the students and the negative comments were nearly slim to none.

Conferences: As a way to implement more integration among medical students and the different departments of Suez Canal University Hospital, SCMSA stepped up to a new challenge by organizing three medical conferences related to three different departments.

1. the 1st Symposium Of Clinical Nutrition In Liver & Chronic Diseases: It was a two days conference in which we were pleased to host two well-known professors in the field of Hepatology : Dr.Hosam Kandil and Dr.Laura Matress.

2. Emergency department conference : More than 200 persons were invited and during our first day we registered more than 250 doctors. During the conference workshops about advanced life support were held by Instructors from Egyptian Resuscitation Council.

3. Future Perspective of Research in Surgery: This conference lasted for 4 days. During which it covered many new topics in various surgical fields with two Swedish guests participating in the conference.

Other social events : Many social events have been held over the past year ( celebrations , outings and Iftar , etc…) , one of our interesting unprecedented activities this year was a corporation between SCMSA and another 11 NGOs in Ismailia , the 12 organizations have worked together in many big events throughout March in an event that is called:

Trainings support division: With the presence of a large number of certified trainers among SCMSA members , our TSD has seized that opportunity by holding a lot of trainings in different occasions all year long either as a part of another event ( during GA , Standing Committees workshops , etc..) or as a separate training event.

SCMSA members  This year SCMSA was represented inside the IFMSA-Egypt board by two members: 1. Mr/ Ramy Genaid : IFMSA-Egypt President for the term 2013/2014 2. Mr/ Ahmed Badr : IFMSA-Egypt NOME for the term 2013/2014 and IFMSA SCOME-Director Elect for the term 2014/2015.

 SCMSA was present in every national GA and in the 5th winter camp as well.
