NUBIAN AGRICULTURE & TECHNOLOGICAL RESEARCH CENTER KOM OMBO, ASWAN, EGYPT
CONCEPT STATEMENT Nubians had suffered a lot during their journey of relocation through generations. Such actions lead to the beginning of losing the identity and the sense of belonging within the Nubians population especially within the younger generation. Younger generation are turning their back from agriculture which used to be the backbone of Nubian household income to work in more profitable jobs. So at first my concept was driven from the Nubian triangle to serve as a symbol of centralization. The main plaza in the center will serve as nucleus between different zones & it will be the focal point of the project as it will be used as an open space for the community to gather and learn more about modern agriculture techniques. So by integrating the community and targeting the younger ones, we will have a generation that is aware about his identity and culture integrated within modern ideologies.

1 How Vertical Farming Works in the Project
Vertical farming is the production of vegetables, fruits or anything that could be farmed in vertical stacked layers. The modern use of vertical farming is by farming indoor in a controlled environment agriculture technology, where all factors can be managed. Such facilities uses LED light and environmental control systems. Softwares can make sure that all the vegetable and fruits get the equal amount of light, water and nutrients. As it is grown in a controlled environment so the need for herbicides and pesticides are not necessary. To hit high levels of production, growth conditions in vertical farms must be continuously optimized. Sensors and data must be used to effectively track variables such as climate, nutrient composition and light levels. Climate is characterized by a combination of air temperature, humidity and (CO2) levels. Using smart sensors that can monitor these variables will ensure that vertical farms produce yields that greatly exceed those of conventional farms. Here is some common sensors used in vertical farms:

Humidity

I-Beam Structure
Steel Flooring is used as it has high strength to weight ratio which means it has high strength per unit mass so it will be efficient and light weight to build such structure of high spans using steel. Moreover Steel is easily fabricated and could be assembled on site which saves time and money. Furthermore, systems such as sensors, irrigation, fire systems and ventilation could be easily integrated within the structure which is beneficial to the whole system.

1 Fruits & Vegetables Marketplace
2 Spaces of Interaction with the Community
Such stores will secure a stable source of income to the project in which fruits and vegetables grown in the farmlands and vertical farming facility will be sold to the locals. Moreover, there is extra stores for the locals that have nearby farmlands to rent it for a monthly fee in which it will help both parties to sustain a local marketplace for Nubians in which they could find sustainable products. By allowing such actions in the projects, the marketplace will act as hub for farmers that grow their products sustainably in sell it in one place.
