PRESIDENTS LETTER

Each time I sit down to write to you, I get the privilege of recalling all the exciting things that AHPD has accomplished in the year to date and the exciting things the District is preparing to do! This year is certainly no exception!

In the summer program guide, I shared that AHPD was one of 118 agencies across the state to receive an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Grant. The $600,000 grant will go towards making proposed improvements at Recreation Park including a fully accessible playground for people with all abilities, renovating the tennis courts, a new skate park and so much more. We look forward to sharing more details on the timeline of this project soon.

AHPD applied for another grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in June. AHPD submitted an application for the Park and Recreational Facility Construction Act (PARC) Grant which will go towards aquatic facility improvements at Recreation Park. The improvements will include:

• Renovation of the recreation center into a fully accessible bathhouse (its intended purpose), while maintaining the original façade of a well-loved WPA building, initially constructed in 1937

• Complete removal of the existing 50-Meter Swimming pool to be replaced with a new 50-Meter Swimming pool

• Updated children’s aquatic area

• Additional green space accessible to pool users

We expect to find out next year if we received this important grant funding. Additional information and updates regarding this project and other capital improvement projects can be found on our website.

On behalf of the Park Board, I’d like to welcome our newest Park Board Commissioner, John T. Supplitt. We look forward to having Commissioner Supplitt serve on the Park Board and with the knowledge and experience he will bring to AHPD.

As always, we look forward to seeing you in the parks, on the golf courses, in the tennis clubs, recreation centers, museum, playgrounds and ball fields….where the fun happens in Arlington Heights!

Sincerely,

Maryfran H. Leno Arlington Heights Park District Board President
