The Arlington Heights Park District offers a wide variety of affordable leisure and recreational activities, including fitness & wellness programming, art and quilting classes, card games and more. Whether you are retired, semi-retired or still working, the Park District Active Adult Program at the Senior Center has something for everyone.

Gift Giving News We offer gift certificates in all denominations. Give a special gift to someone who might like to spend an enjoyable day visiting interesting venues with Arlington Classic Tours or take a class that fits their interest. Gift certificates can also be used for Shop 1801 merchandise, Arlington Athletic Club, Wood Shop and Special Events. A Word To Our Customers Senior trips, luncheons and contracted classes/special events are non-refundable due to contract agreements. However, we’ll be happy to help you sell your ticket if a waiting list has formed. All regular, non-contract recreation programs are refundable for any unused classes from the time the refund request is received and, of course, the Park District programs have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. No refunds will be given after a program has ended. Please don’t wait until the last minute to register for a program. One week prior to the first class, we need to decide if enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Refunds are subject to a $5 administrative fee.

Arlington Athletic Club Membership

Join the Arlington Athletic Club located in the Senior Center where it is always dry and temperature controlled. The Park District offers a multi-direction Cybex Weight Station, Recumbent Bikes, Star Trac and Precor Treadmills, NuStep Recumbent Steppers, Rowing Machines and Elliptical Machines along with free weights.

Patrons must be certified by our Fitness Instructor before purchasing a membership. Certifications and AAC Tours are given on Tuesdays at 10:45a or Thursdays at 11a and 2p and are by appointment only.

Wood Shop Membership

Certification is needed before purchasing a Wood Shop membership — located in the Senior Center. There are eight complete workstations typically available. Equipment includes a Saw Stop Table Saw; 14”Band Saw; variable speed Drill Press; DeWalt 12” sliding compound miter saw; Grizzly 15” planer; Belt Sander; Disc Sander; 12” Lathe, Delta 6” Jointer; DeWalt variable speed 20” Scroll Saw; Router; Rikon Mini-Lathe; Jet Drum Sander and more! Participants must be 18 years or older to operate Wood Shop equipment. Please call the Park District Office/Gift Store at 847.797.5341 to make an appointment to become certified.

Arlington Classic Tour Club Membership:

Do you like to go out to see musicals, theater productions, museum exhibits, concerts, casinos and other recreational destinations, but most importantly, like to have fun? Arlington Classic Tours is for you! Let the Park District do all the planning – all you have to do is register for the tour, check-in on the day of the tour, sit back and relax in a luxury motorcoach while we do the driving and enjoy all the activities that tour has to offer. • Arlington Classic Tours offers approximately 60 one-day tours plus overnight and extended travel (typical in a non-pandemic year). • Members pay $15 less than non-members on each one-day tour. • Membership runs from January to December. Individual Membership $25 Household Membership $35 (two people living at the same address)

SPECIAL EVENTS Art Night - NEW!

Join us for our first annual art show. We will be displaying the work of students from all of the Arlington Heights Park District art classes: Works of Art, Charcoals and Pastels, Drawing, Mixed Media Art Class, The Art of Acrylics and 50 Shades of Colored Pencils. Art will be available for purchase through the artist. Art will be displayed at the Senior Center and available for purchase until November 9. Everyone is welcome! Holiday Cheer

It's time to celebrate this special time of year with your friends from the Arlington Heights Park District. This luncheon will be held at the Meridian Banquets in Rolling Meadows. Share your holiday cheer while enjoying a delicious lunch with an entrée choice of Fresh Broiled Norwegian Salmon with a Dill Sauce, Chicken Francaise, Roast Top Sirloin of Beef or Tortellini filled with Ricotta Cheese topped with Marinara sauce and Parmesan Cheese. Entrée selection is due at time of registration. Coffee/Tea are included. An Ice Cream Chocolate Tart will be served for dessert. A cash bar will be available. Back by popular demand, this year's entertainment will be the Metro Star Orchestra. Each luncheon participant will receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a raffle prize of their choice. Raffle prizes will be on display in the Gift Store/Park District Office in the Senior Center. Tickets are six for $5 or $1 per ticket. Winners will be picked after the entertainment. Spread some holiday cheer. Sign up early; non-refundable. Registration is not available the day of the event. Doors open at 11:15am; luncheon begins at Noon. Trivia Night- NEW!

What is the name of Elvis Presley’s estate? What famous baseball player married Marilyn Monroe in 1954? Which President resigned in 1974 over the Watergate scandal? If you know the answers to these questions and more join us for a night of general knowledge team trivia! Come and join us at Arlington Lakes Golf Club on Thursday, September 22 from 4-6:30pm for a Trivia Night hosted by Finer Points Trivia. You can register individually, with a friend or as a team of six. Fee includes one drink ticket, appetizers catered from Moretti’s, prizes and trivia entertainment.

ARTS & CRAFTS 50 Shades of Colored Pencils

This fun, portable medium gives you the ability to make vivid and rich drawings that can look like paintings. Not only are colored pencils a great art medium, but they can be a wonderful stress buster. No drawing experience necessary. Come and design/color with us! No class 11/11, 11/25. (KH)

Art of Acrylics

Learn to work with and create some beautiful works of art with acrylic paints. First made in the 1950s, acrylic paint uses a synthetic resin to bind pigments. As it can be diluted with water and used thinly or thickly depending on how much water is added to it, it can resemble a watercolor or oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media. If you are sensitive to oil paint fumes but like the look and feel of oils, this is the class for you. Supplies are included. No class 11/24. (KH)

Overnight Trips Do you like to travel to new and popular destinations in the Midwest or across the United States? The Arlington Classic Tour Club offers overnight and extended motor coach tours throughout the year for your travel and pleasure. Most extended travel is offered in conjunction with Legacy Travel.

Pieced Machine Quilting

Tired of basic quilt squares? With beginner level skills, learn to machine sew a quilt that looks like you have been quilting for years! Quilting Techniques

Add a new element to your quilting skills. In this short session, we will focus on the Curved Piecing Technique. You will practice this technique by creating a small project - a pillow, table topper or wall hanging. Instructor will also share other ideas and samples for your next use of the technique. Quilting with Friends

Wednesday mornings from 10am-Noon 8/31-10/19 (Session I), 11/2-12/14 (Session II)

Work on your personal project while socializing with those who share your same passion. An instructor is available for any suggestions or questions. Drop-in fee is $8/visit. New this fall is a punch pass for this class, sign up in the Park District office. A waiver must be completed at time of check-in or payment.

Arlington Bridge B’s Every Saturday 9:30a-11:30a Are you a novice Bridge player who would like to earn credit towards becoming a Bridge Life Master? This game is designed for novice players who want to establish ranking with theamerican Contract Bridge League and who have 50 points or less. This sanctioned game is $7. Pay at the door for two hours of playing under the supervision of Patricia Braun, Bridge Gold Life Master.

CARDS/GAMES Canasta -Beginning/Continued

Canasta is the latest craze in card games. This class will teach you the game according to the American Canasta Rules. Intermediate level students are welcome to come and participate with instructional play. No class 9/5 or 9/26. (KH)

DANCE BeMoved Dance

BeMoved is a dance fitness experience designed for adults of all movement abilities. Classes begin with easy-to-follow therapeutic movements that integrate the upper and lower body. Toomeys Line Dance Drop-In Instructor Sharman Toomey teaches beginner through intermediate line dances in this Wednesday and Thursday night program which meets Wednesday 7-9pm and Thursdays 7-9:30pm. Meet new friends, learn new dances, exercise and have fun. Dennis and Sharman combine country, popular and alternative music with line dancing techniques. Modern Square Dance Drop-in This group offers modern square dances at the SSD and Plus levels 7:30-10pm on the second, fourth and fifth Fridays of the month from September through May. Dances are held in the Fitness/Dance Room in the Senior Center located at 1801 W. Central Rd. All experienced square dancers are welcome. Round Dance Advanced

Round Dance is a synchronized form of ballroom dancing that allows you to master all the ballroom rhythms in easy-to-learn figures and positions. All couples do the same thing at the same time through a technique called “cueing”. Couples are preferred; singles are welcome. This contracted class is a continuing program; no beginners. (KH)

Yoga

Yoga is a wonderful way to relax, restore flexibility, improve breathing and increase energy. Tai Chi Moves

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise performed in a slow, relaxed, continuous motion. The introduction class improves balance, posture, breathing and relaxes the mind while strengthening the muscles, tendons and joints. Learn Qi Gong breathing, stretching and 24 forms of Tai Chi. You must be comfortable with the 24 forms of Tai Chi before enrolling in the advanced level class. (KH)

Learn the Lathe

Have you ever wanted to learn how to do wood turning and use a lathe? Learn the process step-by-step during class time. You will receive a project assignment to complete before the next class.
