PRESIDENTS LETTER

Winter and spring might seem like a quieter time at the Park District but we had record breaking numbers of swimmers at ARC, indoor pickleball players, open gym goers and special event attendees. But, and I think you can agree, there is no summer like a summer at the Arlington Heights Park District! We’re going to serve up fun at our pools, in our camps, at special events, playgrounds, ballfields and so much more. Get ready for one of the best summers yet in Arlington Heights.

We are excited to share some capital improvement projects to look forward to in 2023-2024 for you and your family to enjoy:

• Pioneer Park Path Replacement

• Playground replacement at Sunset Ridge & Happiness Parks

• Basketball court replacements at Evergreen and Virginia Terrace Parks

In March, Governor Pritzker announced that Arlington Heights Park District is one of 118 agencies across the state to receive an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant! Thank you to our legislators and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for their work on securing this critical funding.

This $600,000 grant will go towards making proposed improvements to Recreation Park including: a fully accessible playground for people of all abilities, adding outdoor lawn games and fitness equipment, renovating the tennis courts, a new skate park and more. Additionally, thank you to the Arlington Heights Park Foundation for generously committing $200,000 toward the fully accessible playground portion of the project. Learn more about the Phase 1 Concept and stay tuned for additional information on our website.

In fall of last year, the Park District began the process of updating our Comprehensive Master Plan. This update will refine and adjust the projects and goals for the Park District to complete over the next five to seven years. Towards the end of 2022, residents were invited to provide input in our online Community Survey or at one of our Community Input Meetings. AHPD received the most responses of any Park District our consultant group has worked with. Thank you to all who participated – your feedback is valued! We look forward to sharing our Comprehensive Master Plan with you in early summer.

As always, we look forward to seeing you in the parks, pools, on the golf courses, in the tennis clubs, recreation centers, museum, playgrounds and ball fields….where the fun happens in Arlington Heights!

Sincerely,

Maryfran H. Leno Arlington Heights Park District Board President
