If your high school doesn’t offer any architecture-related courses, one way to gain valuable experience is to attend a summer program provided by a college or university. These programs introduce high school students to the field and study of architecture.

It is also highly recommended that you consider getting involved in a pre-professional organization while in high school. The largest organization is The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). AIAS is a student-run organization that provides programs, information, and resources on issues critical to architecture and education. AIAS promotes excellence in architectural education, training, and practice; fosters an appreciation of architecture and related disciplines; enriches communities in a spirit of collaboration; and organizes students and combines their efforts to advance the art and science of architecture. Membership is open to high school and college students, interns and professionals from any country. For more information, check out the website www.aias.org.
