Wyclef Jean performs at Fat Turtle

Christmas came early this year in St. Thomas! Yacht Haven Grande hosted its third annual Christmas in July event on Saturday, July 24th. Hundreds of children and adults from across the island joined marina guests for this charity event that featured live music from the Top Notch band, the Pans in Motion steel pan band and loads of familyfriendly activities including a face painter, balloon artist, kids bouncer, sand art and treats. The evening ended with Full Moon Jazz on the Green featuring The Louis Taylor Trio. This year, Yacht Haven Grande collected over $1300 for the Salvation Army through a charity raffle with prizes donated from our retail shops. Kool Kidz, a designer children’s boutique, helped raise funds by donating a portion of its sales and profits from snow-cones, pop-

corn and cotton candy to the Salvation Army. Yacht Haven Grande’s casual oceanfront restaurant and bar, Fat Turtle, hosted its first of a three-night summer concert series on Sunday, July 25th. Wyclef Jean and Rock City performed to hundreds of fans during an evening performance. Guests commented that it was the best concert they had seen in the Virgin Islands. The summer concert series also hosts Chrisette Michele, Dion Parson, Bonny Cepeda and Big Mountain. On July 16, Brian White hosted a VIP White Party at Yacht Haven Grande’s Fat Turtle. Guests wore all white and were treated to music, drinks and a performance by St. Thomas’ carnival troupe, Shaka Zulu Nation. The 2010 summer has seen a bevy of social activity at the Montauk Yacht Club. Memorial Day kicked off the season with a bang and was a sold-out success. The weekend was highlighted by our backyard BBQs, poolside shindigs, beach front soirees, the Chuck E band performing and a DJ Saturday and Sunday nights at the Barracuda Bar. The Clambake, hosted by Hamptons Magazine, featured about 500 of the Hamptons’ hip and happening crowd including actor Kyle McLaughlin and TV personality Star Jones. So far this summer, we’ve hosted marina and hotel guests from all over the world including film crews

from Bravo, Logo, ABC, Plum TV and NBC, and as always, we enjoyed our local friends and neighbors. August and September are loaded with charter fishing groups and marina rendezvous as well as weddings booked for every weekend. The end of July brings the Montauk Village Association’s annual fundraiser, the Greenery Scenery Cocktail Party and the annual, four-day Redbone Fishing Tournament is scheduled for September 24, 2010. Former Real Housewife of New York turned New York Times Best-selling author Bethenny Frankel, will be returning to her home away from home - the Montauk Yacht Club - to host another Skinnygirl Margarita party at the Barracuda Bar, July 31. Details and photos to come next issue!
