TOBE REPORT S/S 2018 AIDAN TOOHEY
LETTER FROM THE EDITOR It’s the reaction we have to it, the emotion we have when just enough cream is added to the iced coffee and you nailed it. On a daily basis I am pulled into little responses from color from the initial tone of your skin in the morning to how golden brown the toast should be for breakfast. We use color to gage everything it is an immense aspect of comfort for all of us. To live in a world with only a couple hues and tones would greatly effect the excitement everyone is able to feel on a daily basis. We have just began transitioning from late fall into winter. Mornings have become a brighter orange and evenings boast purple skies earlier and earlier. As the colors we notice influence our daily lives, designers as well begin to pick up on them as well. We have palettes that are distributed similarly throughout fashion, accessories, as well as furniture. This Tobe Report chooses to highlight four of these collections; Clay, Screens, Flicker, and Emerged. Beginning with heavy earth tones and then transitioning into light pastels, bright vibrant colors, and finishing off with deep monochromatic hues the Tobe report takes you through a journey of color.

CLAY Clay is the curation of deep tones that can be found in nature. From colors that drip down a waterfall to ones that grow up out of the dirt, Clay is always lurking on your weekend walks. The colors give us a sense of comfort that we are always outside and want to resemble the place that we have lived but evolved from. With Clay colors clothing can be both understated and profoundly noticeable‌ depending on one’s environment.

FLICKER Flicker is the flash in the dark. It’s the campfire contrasting with the dark forest. It grabs the attention of the viewer if they aren’t already looking that is. Bright vibrant hues of primaries. With a touch of flicker it is impossible for an item to be missed. Flicker is less of a color story and more of that creative thought that pops into ones head once a day but lingers with inspiration.

SCREENS The gentle nature of pastels brings the colors to life in subtle and soft way. The innocence and tranquility of the colors gives a sense of calm on the most tense of days. Screens added to a monochromatic palette can soften out the harshness of an ‘all black look’ and add some innocence.
