FORM AN AIDS WALK TEAM AND HELP MAKE AIDS HISTORY This year marks the 29th anniversary of the world’s first AIDS Walk. In this third decade of AIDS, we must persevere. We must help ensure that HIV prevention efforts are strong, and that proper medical care and support are available to all who need it. We must also continue to come together to fight the racism, sexism, and homophobia that perpetuate the disease. Teams are a powerful force in helping carry out this mission. Last year, team fundraising accounted for nearly 70% of the totals raised at AIDS Walk Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. Please form a team and join us as we fight to end AIDS. A team is any group of co-workers, fellow students, religious/civic organization members, friends, or family members who pre-register, raise money, and walk together on the day of the AIDS Walk. Teams range from two to more than 1,000 walkers. Since 1985, the AIDS Walks in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco have raised more than $370 million for vital programs and services for people living with HIV/AIDS around the country. These AIDS Walks, produced by MZA Events, were the world’s first, and remain by far the largest in the country. In 2011 alone, 100,000 participants, many of whom were members of more than 5,200 corporate and community teams, raised nearly $12 million for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF), GMHC, and dozens of other AIDS Service organizations.

I enjoy talking to all of our walkers, getting to know them, and providing tips on fundraising. Every year, I'm amazed at the support my team and I receive from our corporate office. When I see all the walkers and volunteers at the event year after year, it revives my hope that one day we won't have a need for AIDS Walk Los Angeles.
