You are embarking on a journey that will help you develop yourself and others to have a positive impact on society together.

This booklet will give you a lot of information about AIESEC in general, our vision & mission, our strategies, our structure, the way we work, your own entity and team. Much more information is out in the world, so take some time to google, facebook and youtube to look at all that we do, this will greatly help you be prepared for your own journey. But above all, AIESEC is about actions and really doing something about the things we stand for - so don’t wait for anyone to give you your answer, go and find it yourself!

From our origins after WWII... AIESEC was founded in 1948 after the Second World War by a group of young people from Europe (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. They determined that cross-cultural understanding was essential to prevent similar conflict. Our fundamentals were shaped by the social economic and political climate of the time.

... to today’s world Since then, the world has been changing faster than ever before. The challenges the world faces today, are much more complex than ever before. We believe that young people hold the key to a better future and they must learn to adapt quickly and solve problems. This is why aiesec strives for Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential. In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not necessarily mean only avoiding war. Peace can symbolize a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of dierences in humanity. Peace can also symbolize being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of understanding the views of others.

he world is full of complex challenges that need better leadership to address them. Our belief is that responsible and entrepreneurial leadership can help us solve many of today’s challenges. Leaders who not only have the capabilities to create impact, but also the values that will guide their ethics and decision-making. rom our early roots at the end of WWII our vision begins with changing the world not only from the outside, but from the inside out through the leaders we develop.

IESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. AIESEC provides its members with an integrated development experience comprised of leadership opportunities, international internships and participation in a global environment. e are a non-political, independent, not-forprofit organisation run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Its members are interested in world issues, leadership and management.

Our unique Leadership Development model AIESEC’s leadership development model seeks to prepare youth to take a stand on what they care about and become capable to make a difference through their everyday actions. he Inner and Outer Journey concept grew out of a “new models of leadership” discussion

held with the World Economic Forum. Based on research of the best leadership experiences provided byAIESEC, the following elements describe what people go through during theirAIESEC experience(s) and what helps them learn and develop the most.

e believe that young people learn best by doing and reflecting. The diagram on the right shows the framework AIESEC provides in every

experience, enabling young people to learn the most from every experience. The Outer Journey is the individual’s interaction with the external environment. The Inner Journey is the internal change that happens within the individual.



AIESEC 2020 We are a youth leadership movement with one cause: Peace & Fulfillment of humankind’s potential.We easily engage youth & like minded organizations around the globe to act as one. When people think of leadership development, they think of AIESEC.

develop every young person in the world. Being disruptive means for us to challenge the way we think and act as an organization. We find innovative ways to grow faster and be better. Every AIESECer seeks for solutions and acts upon them every day.

YOUTH SPEAK

outhSpeak is a global youth movement and youth insight survey powered by AIESEC. We are focused on understanding the hopes and challenges surrounding various issues which involve young people like us.

Y

outhSpeak Forum is a premiere event that brings together both young and senior leaders to form a diverse cross-sector and multi-generational space for inspiring conversations around pressing global issues.

hrough the credible data and insights developed from the survey, AIESEC will be able to create projects for youth to work together with decision makers to drive change in areas like education and employment to enable more young people to achieve their full potential.

Let your vice be heard THE SOCIETY NEEDS YOUNG PEOPLE TO TAKE ACTION AND WE, AS AIESEC, IS THE PLATFORM FOR THIS YOUTH EMPOWERMENT. so part of our role as AIESECers is to reach out to as many people in our society and cirlcle as possible, to let their voices be heard and the real issues outlined.



Our organization

A

IESEC is run by and for youth. Almost everyone in our ogranisation is between 18-30 years old, styugyin or recent graduate. Even though we are young, we aim to have our organization function in a dynamic and professional way so that we arefast in adapting to the changes in the world around us. With

60.0000 AIESECers around the world, we need some sructure. ur structure is comparable to any big organizations structure, with a governing body, managers and executives. The folliwing page will explain the different levels in our organizational structure. But why do we need structure as a global network?

Because it enables organization performance towards impact achievement. It integrates entities with different characteristics into one common vision and it provides stability and sustainability to the organization. A structure enables the management body to track and evaluate the performance of the employees. It helps to achieve the


AIESEC International Team of 22+ passionated and experienced AIESECers who lead AIESEC globally. They are lead by the PAI (President of AIESEC international). AIESEC International has split the network in to socalled Growth Networks: AIESEC countries with similar countries realities and conditions are grouped in GNs and each of them is lead by a Vice President Country Development Manager (who is part of AI Team)

Member Committee (MC) Countries are Members of AIESEC, that’s why AIESEC at national levels is called this way. These teams guide the strategy of AIESEC in each country in order to achieve high impact and growth. Each AIESEC country has a National Group of leaders who guide the organization according to national reality and opportunities Besides the national board, countries have a National Support Team (NST) that helps the MC with specific jobs.

Local Committee (LC) Local Committees are the offices of AIESEC in local universities (sometimes more than 1 per university). AIESEC becomes action at this level, this is were actual experiences are delivered. In Lebanon we currently have four LC’s: AUB, LAU Beirut, LAU Byblos & USJ.


Your Local Committee Now let’s zoom into your Local Committtee. How is it organizaed and what different positions are available. Each LC in Lebanon is divided into multiple teams to run a different part of our operations or support them.

s members of the outgoing Global Community Development Programme Team (oGCDP-team) you are responsible for recruiting exchange participants to travel abroad to work in social projects. You are responsible for helping students to find projects abroad and ensuring they pass the visa procedure of the country and are prepared for such an intense experience. s member of this team you gain public speaking experience, sales skills, nternational relations and communication skills, and ofcourse, cultural understanding.

ou are responsible for the number of participants (reaching the goal set per member) and the quality of experience provided to the student.

s members of the outgoing Global Internship Programme Team (oGIP-team) you are responsible for recruiting exchange participants to travel abroad to work in professional internships. You are responsible for helping juniors,and seniors to find professional internships abroad, supporting them in their selection process, ensuring they pass the visa procedure of the country and are prepared for such an intense experience. s member of this team you gain public speaking experience, sales skills,international relations and communication skills, cultural understanding, and ofcourse, more insights into the global corporate world

Incoming Global Community Development

Programme

s member of the incoming Global Community Development Programme Team (iGCDP-team) you are responsible for creating the projects that international volunteers will come and work in, as well as approach NGO’s for social internships. After creating the opportunity, you promote it to reach the international volunteers. When the interns arrive you become their buddies, introducing them to the work, country, culture and help them build their experience in the country.

Talent Management

T

he members of TM are responsible of recruiting the membership of the LC and tracking their performance within their roles. They are also responsible of ensuring their skills development and knowledge growth. At the end of each semester they are responsible of holding reward and recognition events to recognize tope performers and achievers., as well as LC internal reallocation to the different functions. hey are also respnsible to creating and implementing the LC main internal communication activities, bth virtuall and physically.

Finance

Public Relations

A

s member of the Public Relations Team (PR-team) you are responsible for creating events both on- and off-campus. There are four main types of events you will be dealing with: world issues events, skills development events, leadership events and cultural events. You are responsible for every step of the events planning and execution from the idea creation to the event evaluation.

s member of this team you gain sales skills, public speaking skills, ievent planning and management skills, as well as partner management skills.

ou are responsible for your role in the event planning and excusion of each event, which changes with each event, to further enrich your experience and diversify grown skills.

he Finance Team is responsible of budgeting , cashflow tracking and investment planning for the whole LC. This entitles ensuring sufficient income for the LC through opportunity fees and fundraising, followed by close tracking and evaluation of all LC expenditures. All other members are to follow the indications of the Finance Manager when it comes to budget and finance.


Executive Board LCs are lead by the LC Executive Board (EB), directed by Local Committee President (LCP). They create strategies and implement plans to deliver results through their members, aligned to National Priorities and Global strategies.

Middle Management Middle managers are the connective layer between the EB and members. The grasp the direction from the EB and translate into operations within their teams. Generally a team leader manages 4-6 people.

Team Members Team Members are the people in the teams doing the AIESEC operations. This is you!


What will you gain as an AIESEC member? You’ve joined because you like the people, or because you are interested in our work and vision, but what do you REALLY get? And HOW? s a member in AIESEC you will gain A various usefull skills, all summarized by you developping you leadership potential along the

four elements of the LDM discussed before. You will become a solution oriented world citizen that is self-aware and empowers others.

o you want it more concrete? Througout your D AIESEC journey you can take up different roles and responsibilities that will teach you different skills. You will develop team skills, learn how to effectively communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, gain project and event management skills, as well as sales and marketing skills. You will attend local, national and international conferences, work for a cause and have an impact on society, and you’ll interact

with student, professors, and professionals from NGOs and companies. Through your work, the conferences and maybe even going on your own exchange, you will increase your network across local and national boundaries and experience a true global culture. This and much more can be yours, but it’s up to you. We like to say that there’s five principles for you to get the most out of your AIESEC journey: 1. Take an active role in your learning and that of others 2. Constantly challenge your worldview and be open to other perspectives 3. Reflect regularly 4. Increase both your practical atheoretical knowledge 5. Meet new people everyday, everywhere and
