ABOUT VIETNAM GENERAL Vietnam is in reality a country filled with captivating natural beauty and tranquil village life. Its highlands and rainforest regions, far from being devastated, continue to yield new species and team with exotic wildlife. Its islands and beaches are among the finest in all of Southeast Asia, and its cuisine is very possibly the most delicious you will ever find.

CULTURE & TRAVEL The Vietnamese language belongs to the Mon-Khmer branch of the Austroasiatic family of languages (along with other tongues such as the Cambodian official language Khmer and many regional variations such as Khasi and Mundi). It is heavily influenced by Chinese due to the 1,000 years of Chinese rule from roughly 111 BC to 983 AD, with a significant proportion of its lexicon borrowed almost directly from its larger neighbor. Up until the end of the 19th century, Chinese characters were also widely used to transcribe the language.

ABOUT VIETNAM VISA & TRAVEL COSTS Malaysians need a visa to stay in VIETNAM to join Global Volunteer Program which is more than 30 days. The living cost Vietnam is much lower than Malaysia. The price range of food in Vietnam is around 40,000 – 80,000 d. The public transpot service is cheap, but comfortable and convenient for all tourists when visiting Vietnam. Motorcycles, buses and taxies are the most common vehicles for you to take. Rail transport in Vietnam is also favored by a large number of tourists in Vietnam.

SOCIETY Despite Vietnam’s vast economic improvements in the past two decades, studies by the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs, and UNICEF (2008) show that almost seven million Vietnamese children under the age of 16 still struggle due to poverty. Poor access to a proper education is also a detrimental factor in a child’s ability to escape poverty. For ethnic minority children living in Northern remote regions and Western Highlands, the ability to receive an education comparable to the education Kinh children receive in urban areas remains difficult.

ABOUT VIETNAM SOCIETY The air in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City contains dangerous levels of benzene and sulfur dioxide, experts say. Levels of one of the most dangerous pollutants, microscopic dust known as PM10, are moderate compared with other developing Asian cities but could worsen if Vietnam chooses to build coal-fired power plants to satiate demand for electricity, which is growing at double-digit annual rates. At the heart of Vietnam's air pollution problem is also dirty fuel.

CHECK OUT PAST VOLUNTEERS! NAME: MOHD SYAFIQ BIN ZAMRI I changed, I became a different person from before. I met a lot of people, different kind of people to work with and I learnt how to think from their perspective on what we can do, what we can't what are their common behavior and stuff. Now I see the world as a developing and repairing entity. Even though there's a lot of wars and others problem such as political, pollution, poverty and even low literacy issue, I still can see the light from youths such as from AIESEC organization to change the world. I love to say this 'If you want to change the world, you can start from your self.'
