Hey AIESEC! What’s Up? Hello there youths of Indonesia! If you’re reading this, we now understand that there’s a desire in you to explore, to change, to give impact and be impacted, and challenge yourself. We, AIESEC, believe that to develop youths to fulfill their maximum potential and leadership skill, a cross-cultural experience is necessary—not just any cross-cultural experience, but a cross-cultural experience where you are allowed to live in diversity and also giving impact to the society in the process. What They Say “I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't because of my first AIESEC experience in Vietnam! It was a really lifechanging experience for me that through it I found my passion, what I want to do, and what I got to do. The project that I was the part of has gained myself lots of skills that you don't get from books. With AIESEC, I got to meet a lot of people. I have taught many students in different schools. I have become good friends with other exchange participants from other countries that will always be welcoming whenever I'm visiting. I also got a chance to stay with a really wonderful family that made my stay feel like home. If you don't know what you're doing right now and feel kind of lost in your major, I suggest you go for an exchange. I guarantee that you'll find your passion and what you want to become in the future just like I did!

Jonathan Siahaan Went to Vietnam for Global Citizen

What They Say “I was given an opportunity to experience how life is in Gdansk, Poland. Aside from wanting to go overseas, I’ve always wanted to challenge myself. So in December 2015, I took “Kid Speak” Project; a project which obligates you to teach young learners. I had to figure out how to let go of my anxiety— upon realizing that I would speak a lot with so many people, I had to move out from my comfort zone and I am very grateful that I was given such opportunity. About one month I lived in Gdansk, never once I did not feel excited for everything that AIESEC had prepared for us the volunteers. Gdansk is a very interesting city for me—should I say it is totally different from Jakarta, well, it is literally different. I met lots of people from many parts of the world ad made friends with them. Too often I found myself being fascinated with even the little things that were new for me. I have to say now, living in diversity is amazing.”

What They Say Shabrina Sidharta Went to Malaysia for Global Citizen "My #1 key learning of this experience is that the development that you expect to get, might not exactly be the development you will get. But the point is, development is still development. I travelled to lots of places with a Russian friend, something I will never get if I stayed in Indonesia. I got to learn others' trivial culture that will never ever make it to the books and the encyclopedias. I didn't learn others' culture, I experienced them. My believe as an AIESECer is that you should never leave an experience as the same person. I left, and I changed, for the better."

FAQs Is my destination country for my Global Citizen Program determined by AIESEC? The project and the country for Global Citizen Program is determined by the participants themselves, not by AIESEC. Can I apply more than one project in the AIESEC system? Yes, you can. Does AIESEC pay for my trip and stay? All expenses for and during Global Citizen Program such as flight tickets, living cost, VISA, health insurance, is fully paid by the participants, AIESEC, however, will assist you in minimizing your expenses. What will I be doing during my Global Citizen Program? It depends on the project you choose. For example if you choose education project, your activities will mainly teach literacy from one local shcool/orphanage to another. Some projects usually have side activities like sightseeing or cultural learning. And at the end of the project, pariticipant will represent their native culture (flag, snacks, dance, tradtional clothes, etc.) in an event called Global Village.

FAQs Who will look after me during my Global Citizen Program? Your host AIESEC has the responsibility to look after you by providing you with Exhcange Participant Buddy (who will be your guide) and Exchange Participant Mentor, a member from AIESEC in BINUS who will monitor you during your stay. I would like to go but I don’t have the budget to? AIESEC understands that budget can be a stumbling stone for some of our participants. In order to minimize our participants’ living cost, we help our participant by: • Providing the pariticipant accomodation during their stay; the accomodation may be in a form of host family (local family) or dormitory/hostel provided by the host AIESEC. • Encouraging our participant to create ISIC (International Student ID Card) where it’ll give benefits such as discounted flight tickets, free bus rides in the (some) destination countries, etc. (www.isic.id/id/) • Providing our participants who seek for sponsorship with Official Statement Letter (the sponsors are sought by the participants themselves however) • There are even projects who provide the participants consumption, this will surely cut the expense of the living cost.

FAQs What responsibilities do I have for AIESEC during my Global Citizen Program? Participants are only expected to participate in all of the project’s activities and host AIESEC’s activities. And after their return, AIESEC in BINUS only requires the participant to submit their Global Citizen Story (testimony) in a form of photos, videos, article, nothing more. Am I allowed to go sightseeing/trip during the program? Participants are allowed to go sightseeing during days off, even some projects include fun day in their program. As long as the sightseeing/trip does not clash with the project’s schedule, participants are free to go. Am I allowed to go sightseeing/trip after my project is finished? Yes, participants are allowed to take extra trip during their stay after the project finishes. Do I have to be proficient in English to apply? Participants are expected to be able to communicate in English but they are not required to be an expert of it. As long as they can communicate in English, they are welcome to apply. Is the program only for BINUS University students? This program is open for public. Even non-students are welcome to join.
