In the summer of 2017, we started the year by asking ourselves a series of important and fundamental questions, such as: 1. How can we accelerate the creation of more Canadian youth leaders? 2. How can be build more strategic partnerships? 3. And, how do we create more valuable experiences for our volunteers? We spent the year answering these questions through trial and error, strategic investments, seeking insights and advice from experts and leveraging our student network to move the organization forward. As an outcome we experienced a 22% growth in our international experiences, and a 107 % growth in our national fundraising efforts. As the year comes to a close, it gives me a lot of energy to say that it has been an incredible year for AIESEC in Canada. Despite the challenges and obstacles we faced, we were able to stay focused on our ambition to achieve greatness in every project we delivered. 4
All of this would not have been possible without the continue support of our national partners group, our Board of Directors, our alumni and most importantly our student network of volunteers. In this report you will get a glimpse of the efforts and partnerships that enabled more than 1,000 youth leadership experiences and the stories behind our teams incredible journey. I am optimistic about the organization’s future, and the leadership stories that we will continue to create.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS CHAIR LETTER This year, AIESEC Canada celebrated our 60th anniversary developing global youth leadership and I would like to thank our supporters and partners for your continued commitment with our organization. The 20172018 year has been an important year in AIESEC Canada history, as we continue on our journey to provide meaningful and relevant experiential learning opportunities to Canadian youth. As we continue with the implementation of the 2020 Strategic Plan, we focused on improving our reliable enablement capabilities, embedding digital marketing into our core operations, and strengthening our relationship and engagement with partners and alumni by leveraging our 60th Anniversary. These strategies have brought us closer towards our aspiration of being the leading youth voice movement to business, education and government in Canada. We saw many accomplishments this year, including the launch of our 60th Anniversary celebration series that worked to bridge generations of AIESEC members, current and past supporters, and open additional engagement avenues for the remainder of 2018. Throughout the past 60 years of AIESEC’s presence in Canada, we have been able to engage tens of thousands of youth, government sectors, and companies in our mission to develop leadership qualities and global competencies in Canada’s youth. We are thrilled to share that we continued to strengthen our relationships with both new and current supporters, allowing us to expand our impact on the development of Canadian youth. This year, we welcome Export Development Canada, International Experience Canada, Smith School of Business, and TD as Platinum and QS as Silver partners and look forward to leveraging your support through meaningful engagement opportunities with our membership.

OUR PROGRAMS All of our programs are structured in such a way to promote a participant’s development of AIESEC’s four key leadership qualities: Self Awareness, Global Citizenship, Empowering Others, and Solution Oriented. Participants are tested on these competencies before and after their experiences to track their development.
Global Entrepreneur is an opportunity for a young person to work abroad in a startup, accelerator, or incubator for eight to 11 weeks to advance their personal and professional goals. Participants are typically within their final years of university study or recently graduated and find placement in marketing, IT, or design roles.
Global Talent is a long-term internship opportunity for a young person to work abroad from four to 18 months to advance their personal goals and live a cross-cultural professional experience while developing both hard and soft skills. These positions primarily range from the fields of teaching, marketing, IT, or sales. Participants are typically recent university graduates or within their final years of study.
Global Volunteer is a six to eight week international volunteer experience where a young person contributes to one of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals by volunteering in a school, NGO, nonprofit, or community effort. Participants are guided to develop themselves while living a cross-cultural experience. Participants are not limited by their education level or area of study, but are rather placed and selected by their personal strengths and abilities.

AIESEC 2020 AIESEC 2020 is our 5-year mid-term ambition. It is one big milestone towards the achievement of AIESEC’s mission of Peace and Fulfillment of Humankind’s Potential.
By 2020, AIESEC aims to be a Youth Leadership Movement that easily engages youth & like minded organizations around the globe to act as one. When people think of leadership development, they think of AIESEC.
In becoming a movement, we Shape What We Do Around What The World Needs by being aware of global and local issues, we act quickly to respond to them by offering powerful leadership experiences. We collaborate with like-minded organizations that, like us, strive for a better world. Through this, we take part in global and local decision making processes.
We Grow Disruptively as doing the same things is not enough to one day engage and develop every young person in the world. Being disruptive means for us to challenge the way we think and act as an organization. We find innovative ways to grow faster and be better. Every AIESECer seeks for solutions and acts upon them every day. INCOMING GLOBAL TALENT TYPES OF INTERNSHIPS: Since it’s founding 60 years ago, AIESEC Canada’s Incoming Global Talent program has continued to be a core focus for the organization. AIESEC Canada is to be collaboration with hundreds of local organizations to develop youth leadership both through the facilitation and the delivery of the program. Student volunteers across the country work diligently to create partnerships with universities, NGOs, and corporations to open short term working opportunities for talented trainees from the around the world. These opportunities address key needs in the Canadian economy and help to further increase its competitiveness globally. 2017-18 marked an especially strong year for the Incoming Global Talent Program. With a strong focus on addressing the increasing needs of the IT sector, and particularly start-ups/small businesses within it, AIESEC in Canada was able to open nearly 300 opportunities in the 17-18 fiscal year. Over 200 of those opportunities were delivered on within the fiscal year time frame, resulting in AIESEC in Canada being ranked as 2nd globally in growth for Incoming Global Talent, and receiving the prestigious global award for Incoming Global Talent- making it the first global award AIESEC in Canada has received in 11 years.

OUTGOING GLOBAL TALENT/ OUTGOING GLOBAL ENTREPRENEUR The Global Talent program focuses on providing unique opportunities for young people to develop their leadership qualities by living and working in a challenging professional environment. Participants in our Global Talent program participate in mostly Teaching and Langugae Education (67%), Business Administration and Marketing (27%), and Information Technology (6%) internships. IT 5%

Coming to NYC as my second exchange with AIESEC was a decision made in less than 3 days. From applying to getting accepted, approved and arriving in NYC all within a week may seem like an impulsive move, but do I regret this decision? Not at all. There has been many moments during this exchange where I just wanted to give up and go back home, but I didn’t. I went from not understanding what I was doing at work, to being homesick, to homeless (for a week). But because of all these problems happening all at once, it really taught me how to be resilient. My biggest take away so far, isn’t mainly about what I do as a marketing analyst, although it is a big part of it, but mostly about self awareness.

OUTGOING GLOBAL VOLUNTEER The Global Volunteer program provides youth the opportunity to develop themselves through practical volunteer experiences in cross-cultural environments. Participants are able to develop an international outlook and engage with different cultures. Through experiential learning, the volunteers put their skills into practice to tackle social impact projects that directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create positive impact in local societies.

My experience in Brazil has truly been life changing. I have been working at Projeto Vovô Chiquinho which is an NGO that provides a safe environment for impoverished children to stay off the streets and give them hope for a better future. The reality of my NGO is that all the children I worked with suffer daily, whether it be extreme violence, risk of drug trafficking or lack of parental support and they rely on the NGO for survival. I will be honest that I doubted myself at the beginning and thought it was impossible for me to help my NGO. My purpose of doing this exchange was to help these children and share their realities no matter how difficult it would be. I am doing just that and I am proud of what I have accomplished. Everyone has a story to tell and I am here to make sure the stories of each child does not go unheard.

The Canada Youth to Business Forum brought businesses and students togetherto engage in a unique dialogue on relevant topics for both Canadian businesses and student communities. On May 2nd, 2018, AIESEC Canada convened 250 student leaders from 30 universities across the country to collaborate with Canada’s top executives to address the question: “What are the leadership demands for the next 60 years, and how can youth have experiences today to prepare them for these roles?” Together we explored sub-topics: capacity building, global connectivity and diversity in leadership, as they relate to the next 60 years of leadership. We hosted three keynotes, two panels, six exhibit booths, and six workshops. Our delegates were able to learn from a diverse representation of industry while exploring and expressing their opinions on leadership development.

60TH ANNIVERSARY 2018 marks the 60th year of AIESEC’s presence in Canada. 60 Years of Leadership: AIESEC has been developing leadership qualities within young Canadians since 1958. Through practical experiences, tens of thousands of passionate, young leaders have lived AIESEC experiences and are now in leading roles in government, corporations and nonprofit organizations. In 2018, AIESEC brought together these alumni leaders, with partners and current membership to honour and celebrate the work of the last 60 years. Through the Youth to Business series, with the knowledge and support of alumni and partner champions, AIESEC has begun defining the future of Canadian leadership for the next 60 years. To kick off the Anniversary, AIESEC hosted a Launch in Toronto on September 28, 2017 with over a hundred alumni, partners, and members, including the Founder of AIESEC Canada, Lionel Simons. Between September and February, Alumni around Canada hosted meetups to bring together previous teammates and friends to share impactful stories. In February, AIESEC hosted Regional Launches in the West and East, in Edmonton and Montreal respectively. Between the two events, another 200+ alumni, partners, and members came out to share and connect with like-minded leaders across generations. Bersabel B.

Colin Baril The flagship event took place on April 28th, 2018, bringing together 350 alumni, partners, and current AIESEC leaders. Every local committee had a current leader representing their chapter. The 60th Anniversary Chair, Colin Baril, and President of AIESEC Canada 2018-2019, Ibby Abouelenein, hosted the program for the evening. Throughout the program, current and previous leaders of AIESEC shared their experiences. Bersabel Behonegne, the President of AIESEC Canada 2017-2018, shared about the meaning of the 60th Anniversary to AIESEC Canada today. Kevin Peesker, the President of Microsoft Canada and previous National VP of AIESEC Canada, shared about his AIESEC experience and its impact on his career, as well about the unique experiences provided by AIESEC.
Our alumni are a testament to the real impact of AIESEC. In order to better understand this impact and put data behind the stories, AIESEC partnered with one of our Platinum Partners, International Experience Canada, to launch an Alumni Impact Research Project. With International Experience Canada’s support, AIESEC has been able to gather hundreds of responses and concrete data on the impact of AIESEC’s leadership experiences over the last 60 years. MARKETING CONVERSION RATES/ GENERAL RESULTS: The main focus of the 2017-2018 year was to move AIESEC in Canada’s marketing into the next phase by integrating digital marketing into the organization’s core operations, particularly for youth markets. At the end of the 2016-2017 year, much progress had been made to improve the marketing efforts at the local level but there were still areas for growth: 1

Brand Inconsistency: Graphic and written representation of the brand were inconsistent across communication channels and sales messaging Heavy Focus on Push-Marketing Only: All content on our digital channels leaned heavily towards push marketing with little investment or focus on pull marketing strategies and content. Poor Cross-Channel Sales Alignment and Focus: Messages and product promotions on physical and online channels were misaligned and unfocused across chapters and the national/local levels. Unsustainable Sales Timeline: 73% of the outgoing exchange program applications were generated within the first 4 months of the calendar year, putting the year-long sustainability of the exchange products at risk.
Therefore, the focus in the 2017-18 year was to improve AIESEC in Canada’s online presence and brand messaging as a means to both increase the number of Canadians applying to exchange opportunities abroad and conversion rates from applicants to participants. 1

Merging of Marketing with Outgoing Exchange Teams: Most chapters chose to discontinue having marketing teams separate from their youth sales teams, having one team and director responsible for the full youth customer journey. This led to a significant improvement in messaging alignment between the attraction and conversion stages. Engagement of Social Media Influencers: We had three Canadian social media influencers (Samantha Munro, Joelle Farrow, and Hayley Gendron) participate in a Global Volunteer exchange or interact with AIESEC interns abroad as a means to raise awareness for the UN’s Global Goals and our Global Volunteer projects. This led us to gain awareness outside of our typical customer range. Investments in National-Level Digital Marketing: After the unification of local Facebook pages to the national page, investments were made into the creation of high quality storytelling content and social media advertisements to generate leads and drive traffic to the global website. Introduction of an Off-Season Sales Model: By leveraging the Black Friday sales season, AIESEC in Canada launched its first off-season sale which allowed us to grow by 313% overall in November’s student sales.
We observed a significant improvement in our conversion rate of program applicants getting matched to opportunities once our marketing channels were better aligned in messaging and targeting of the right customers. This therefore led to an overall increase in the number of Canadian youth participating in our exchange experiences for the year.

IXP FUND
This year, the Member Committee invested over $10,000 in the IXP Fund which allows members of AIESEC in Canada to apply for a fund that will financially cover half of their EP fee. This allowed for 80 IXPs to receive funding for their internships in exchange for marketing material (i.e. pictures, videos, testimonials, etc.) that will later be used as marketing content to promote AIESEC’s internships. 2
NATIONAL CODE OF CONDUCT
This year, the Member Committee introduced AIESEC in Canada’s National Code of Conduct. AIESEC is the world’s largest non-profit youth-run organization. We develop and connect the next generation of young leaders with impactful professional and volunteering experiences to activate their potential. The National Code of Conduct sets the basic requirements for business conduct and serves as a foundation for our organization’s processes. As a global organization, we are subject to the highest standards of business conduct and behaviour. To continue to operate
and maintain our reputation as an organization that puts first the needs of its customers we serve around the world, we must each learn, understand, and comply with our National Code of Conduct. The National Code of Conduct demonstrates that we take our responsibility seriously and helps us make decisions in our daily activities. The National Code of Conduct has allowed for our national customer flow to be more efficient and standardized across the whole counter. Local Committees worked hard to improve their processing times and conversions from each step of the customer flow in order to ensure exceptional customer servicing at each stage of the AIESEC experience. ORGANIZATIONAL Organizational Development DEVELOPMENT Organizational Development is responsible for building the health of the entity by overseeing the internal management of AIESEC Canada’s 27 local branches. The focus for Organizational Development in the 17/18 term was achieving setting clear goals and achieving them by training teams on execution & operations management frameworks. This resulted in building tools for growth that aligned to targets created and owned by Local Committees themselves.
Strategic Initiatives for Health To commit to the mandate of building a healthy entity, the 17/18 team committed to a strategic initiative and invested $10,000 in additional support for Local Committees. This investment took the form of LC Growth Visits conducted by Local Committee Coachest and National Support Team members. These coaches were subsidized to visit different Local Committees to increase efficiency and improve overall customer flow and operations management. Over 30 LC Growth Visits were conducted throughout the fiscal year of 2017-2017.
Growing LCs HIGHLIGHTS IN ENTITY HEALTH 20 out of 29 entities achieving 90% or above of their year goal for the month to date 19 out of 29 entities exceeded 2016’s calendar year results halfway through the 2017 term

NATIONAL LEADERSHIP MEETING 20 Delegates | Toronto, ON AIESEC Canada hosted a National Leadership Team Meeting, which united LCPs, VPs, and TLs from across Canada to work on the next steps for AIESEC Canada and consult on bottlenecks within Local Committee Growth.
FALL ONTARIO REGIONAL CONFERENCE 130 Delegates | AIESEC Ottawa and Carleton in Kitchener (Also Fall West. in October) Three hosts from across Canada collaborated to create touch-points that would on-board new members recruited into the organization. The membership learned how to be more customer centric, entrepreneurial, and agile. All conferences ended successfully and returned funds to their Local Committees for future sustainability.

FALL WESTERN REGIONAL CONFERENCE 160 Delegates | Vancouver, BC NATIONAL PRESIDENT’S MEETING 54 Delegates | Toronto, ON The theme of this meeting, simply put, was the entity stance: One Canada, Demanding Excellence. Hustle to Win. The touch-point delivered content on team building, different modes of leadership, and agility.
AIESEC Canada delivers conferences and summits annually to the membership to equip them with the skills needed to scale AIESEC Canada’s program delivery while developing their leadership in the process. This year, AIESEC Canada ended the conference cycle by implementing a new bidding model where hosts for future conferences are mandated using a rotation. The model will increase the sustainability of hosting by enabling hosts to prepare years in advance for their turn. 24

The National Support Team of AIESEC in Canada came together for the National Training Program strictly for the support team. This pre-conference summit delivered training sessions for all 25+ members of the NST.
NATIONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE 2018 225 Delegates | AIESEC SFU in Vancouver, BC This touch-point emphasized the message that The Movement is Here. The membership was aligned to the 2020 AIESEC vision and participated in functional and skill-building sessions catered towards building an entity that would work towards the vision over the upcoming terms.

Local Committee Presidents stepped up to the plate by overseeing Organizing Committees and participating in Agenda Teams to deliver these conferences to their sub-regions. Each team successfully recruited facilitators for their conferences, created content for the membership of their region, and preserved the financial sustainability of their LCs as hosts.

Finance always serves as a critical part in any organization, an empowering body in the decision making process. The National Finance Team is a semi-independent body that works with the MC to support Local Committee VP Finances to make their decisions, by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, tools and coaching they need. The team also serves as internal auditors and managers of projects that contribute to ultimate goal, and this year’s strategy, financial sustainability.

In 1958, Canada was chosen as an expansion country for the rapidly growing AIESEC movement across the world. The purpose was simple, to help develop leadership in young Canadians to contribute towards the peace and fulfillment of humankind's potential. 60 years later, AIESEC in Canada has impacted tens of thousands of Canadians and international interns through challenging practical experiences and exchanges. There is no question that AIESEC in Canada’s prosperity over the decades is largely due to all of the partners and supporters who have engaged with us, and worked with us to further our objective of impacting as many young Canadians as possible. Thank you for believing in us, and allowing us to pursue our passion for leadership development.
