The booklet is sub-divided into Local Committees. A new sub division begins with “AIESEC IN ….” after which you will find the projects which that LC is currently running. In the bottom right corner you will find an email you can reach out to in order to make enquiries about an LCs projects or a particular project. We are looking forward to having you in Kenya!

This is a project under health that aims at identifying health issues in the society that need to be addressed. Heart to Health project bridges this path by bringing in quality EPs who will help these hospitals or/and health centres by providing much needed human resource. The project is open to EPs with medical and non-medical experience.

• Assisting in ward duties such as packing pills and folding bandages.

START DATE: All year long

• Conducting health visits and educating the community on the importance of hygiene, preventing diseases and keeping one’s health in check.

DURATION: Minimum 6 weeks, Maximum 12 weeks.

• Moving through the clinic talking to patients’ relatives, providing support, company, conversation and friendship. • Assisting in any clerical work such as filling patient records. • Assisting in any other role requested of him or her by the health officer or any other staff.

• Teaching the students various subjects Mathematics, English and Science (Swahili for Swahili speakers) as directed by the teachers in the schools.

'Tofauti’ is a Swahili word meaning change, hence our motto- “Changing lives across Africa” and our slogan is “Making the difference”. We work with children in Primary school whose reading and writing skills are too weak for them to have a meaningful interaction in the classroom. Our aim is to give the gift of reading to children.

• Engaging the students to be creative in various ways such as the use of arts, according to the capabilities of the intern. • To assist in making class presentations such as the use of charts. • To assist with the monitoring of children performance by preparing progress reports. • Engage the students in Team building by team work and games to get to know themselves and each other.

Digital Literacy

Kids Comp Camp is a digital literacy initiative that seeks to front the spread of digital literacy amongst kids living in rural and marginalized communities in Africa. We spark interest, among young learners with no prior experience on computers, to digital technology through equipping them with basics of digital literacy skills.

• Conduct kids comp camp sessions. The targeted age for this program is 10 to 14.

START DATE: All year long

• Conduct basic literacy clubs. Major challenges facing young learners in marginalized communities include ability to read and write, confidence and self-expression. These clubs aim to instil these skills among the learners. The targeted age for this is 7 to 10.

DURATION: Minimum 6 weeks, Maximum 12 weeks.

• Involvement in Community service. This might include giving motivational talks to high school students, community environmental exercises e.g planting trees, clean ups.

Island of Hope is a project that aims on Health and Education, under health it focuses mainly on HIV/AIDS awareness, counseling, testing, prevention of mother to child infections and other issues surrounding it including poor general health and stigma. The Interns will make hospital visits in a nearby clinic and will be expected to rotate through all the departments in the hospital so as to get a wholesome experience and have an idea of the health system, learn how things are done, at the same time share their expertise with the staff there.

• Interns will be trained on counseling and testing in the VCT (voluntary counseling and testing) centre ) and carry out tests after • Interns will be trained on how to lead discussions on Mother-child transmission and prevention to pregnant women living with HIV/AIDS, in the PMTCT (prevention of mother to child infection) department. • Interns studying Medicine will also be involved in regular checkups for infected patients and other patients in the outpatient clinic. They will also carry out lab tests and researches. • Interns will be trained on anthropometrics involving health and development of children aged 0-5 years in the MCH (mother and child health) clinic and immunization

Island of Hope is a project that focuses on Health and Education,. Under Education, it focuses on supporting the children both affected and infected by impacting knowledge and skills. Improving normal literacy, by assisting in improving the quality of education. Then there are teaching on life skills, culture, music and dance, art and crafts, drama, health education, and sports. Interns will be working in a community primary school and assist in normal teaching and other special lessons on life skills, health education (focus on HIV/AIDS), culture, languages, music and dance, art and crafts, drama and sports

Interns will prepare talks and discussions that will aim to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS and reduce any stigmatization that is present. Interns are expected to be creative on their delivery methods. They can lead games; short skits play short video clips etc. Interns will also be working in the education department and assist the students in their normal learning and other co-curricula activities like sports, art and crafts, culture sharing, life skills lessons, music, drama and health related topics. The intern is also expected to mentor by building a rapport the children and identify issues that may require further assistance or cancelling such as assault issues FGM

Education

Kusoma Tu Program works with children in Primary school whose reading and writing skills are too weak for them to have a meaningful interaction in the classroom. Our aim is to give the gift of reading to children, especially those in upper primary school, who cannot read. Our vision is to cultivate a reading culture within our population and make reading interesting by providing story books to economically challenged schools, encouraging peer teaching and setting up libraries, as well as reading centers.

The intern will be a reading coach upper primary pupils who cannot read or speak in English. Each intern will be assigned 5 children weekly to coach. Interns are expected to come up with creative coaching methods. Every quarter, there will be a project in which interns are expected to work together to plan and organize an assigned project which involves art, entrepreneurship or educational activities such as debates, poetry etc. The intern will learn on cataloging and will be expected to maintain the library. Interns are to prepare materials for the day which will include talks and discussions that will aim to educate and interact with the students. Interns are expected to be creative on their delivery methods.

• Teaching the children subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science amongst others. • Assisting the staff and directors of the schools in management, fundraising and other activities that may arise.

(KNOWLEDGE IS WEALTH) This project is based in several primary schools located in Mathare slum in Nairobi County. These schools provide education for underprivileged children who live in the slums. The children are aged between 3 and 15 years old. The main aim is to improve and develop the schools so that they can attain sustainability in their everyday activities through the KULEANA Initiative.

• Assisting the staff to create sustainable projects for their schools e.g. feeding programs, libraries, washrooms and so on. • Mentorship and guidance to the children. • Innovating fun and creative ways of teaching as well as coming up with extracurricular activities such as sports, music and art.

• The intern will work hand in hand with the nurse to treat sick kids at the school • Will hold training sessions with kids in different classes on hygiene and sanitation

(HEALTH AND SANITATION) The health and sanitation project run in . Mathare seeks to teach children between the age of 4 and 14 proper sanitation habits in workshops in different schools in the area. The health project also involves doing health checkups on the children in the community for various tropical diseases and do any awareness campaigns the team might find necessary.

• Interns will teach kids at the school on precautions to take to protect themselves from HIV and TB • Interns free time will be spent in networking to support in raising money to acquire drugs or create partnerships for donations in form of medical drugs for the school kids • Intern will keep record of school children that have been examined and make a follow up regarding their medication.

• Hold one on one counselling sessions with affected students

This project entails the rehabilitation of students affected by either HIV/AIDS, rape and trauma.

• Hold meetings with teachers to help them deal with affected students.

The main aim of the project is to facilitate general seminars on HIV/AIDS, trauma and rape which will help the victim cope with different life situations.

• Teach the students on good nutrition and sanitation practices.

The project is also meant to facilitate the care offered by teachers to be continued at home.

(PUBLIC RELATIONS) This project is located within one of Nairobi’s largest slum, Mathare.

The project is located within the Mamma Africa organization and is meant to change the perception of the locals towards their personal and community health awareness . The project is meant to increase awareness of the value of the organisation to the wider community.

• Teach entrepreneurial classes to the ladies at Mamma Africa.

START DATE : 12th October 2015.

• Create awareness on the project in the surrounding community e.g. getting members of community to know about the project.

END DATE : 16th November 2016.

• Implement strategies for exposing the products to the target market through advertisement.

• The intern will perform regular Health Checkup on the Children at Mamma Africa. • Carry out a workshop on the importance of Hand washing and how to properly wash hands.

(MEDICAL INTERN) This project is meant to encourage the culture of hygiene in children in order to prevent water borne diseases as well as treating minor periodontal diseases. It is also meant to create awareness in regards to HIV/AIDS in children and provide them with sexual education It is an extension of the Health and Sanitation project targeting those associated with the medical field.

• Dental Students can perform and treat minor Dental problems on the kids. • Carry out fun and Interesting and creative workshops on HIV/AIDS and Sexual Education • Hand in a report to the TN manager at the end of the experience addressing any issues that may have come up during the stay both pros and cons.

(BEYOND DREAMS) This project involves a small children's home operating in Ruiru, Kenya. We care for abandoned and abused children aged between 1 year old to 5 years old and work towards their mental, physical and social growth. We provide the children with Early Childhood Development classes and therapy through a few volunteers.

• Train the caretakers at the home on basic child care therapy, play therapy and basic first aid for continuity purposes.

START DATE : 12th October 2015.

• Organize creative therapy sessions for the children in order to engage them.

DURATION: Minimum 6 weeks, Maximum 12 weeks.

• Assist the workers at the home to run the children's home. • Assess the children's well being and create remedies for any problems. • Send in weekly reports to the director of the home and to AIESEC project director.

• To do trend research and create new garments and patterns according to L’Afrikana table of measures. • To choose fabrics. To teach how to sew the new garments. To monitor the progress of the work in the workshop.

(FASHION & DESIGN CENTRE) L’afrikana is a social brand of garments and home items, made of African textiles and handmade by African refugees based in Kenya. The brand’s aim is to empower it’s members through social inclusion, training and creative work. Tailoring is meant to be a path to financial independence and fashion, as a way to nourish creativity.

• A Tailoring Teacher to teach how to operate sewing machines; different types of sewing and seam allowances; sew zippers; operate the iron; cut the fabrics; take measures; read and make patterns; sew different types of outfits.

(COUNSELLING CENTRE) L’afrikana Centre is a community based organisation that works in unison with L’afrikana brand for the social development goals of the refugees in Kenya. The aim of L’afrikana Centre is to provide them with skills that, while may generate them incomes, can also be strengthen ties between he community.

• Organize either group or individual therapy sessions. This should be done in an interesting and encouraging manner.

START DATE : 12th October 2015.

• The intern should also be able to assess the group and advise the organization accordingly if further and intense counselling is required.

(AGRICULTURAL CENTRE) This project involves small scale farms in Ruiru, Kenya, where we hope to develop systems that maximize food production. We strive to equip the farmers and workers with knowledge and skills necessary for improving the agricultural methods and tools used.

• The intern is required to create agricultural farming systems that work for the home's farm to maximize food production.

START DATE : 12th October 2015.

• The intern is required to train the home's workers on basic agricultural and farming knowledge.

DURATION: Minimum 6 weeks, Maximum 12 weeks.

• The intern is required to research on farming and market research. • The intern is required to procure and utilize farming input appropriately according to the home's needs and capabilities. • The intern is required to send a progress report to AIESEC and the director of the home every 2 weeks

Frank Educational Centre is a community school based in Ngâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ando Dagoretti slum in Nairobi. However the term community schools may have different meanings in different country contexts, in Nairobi community schools are mostly defined as schools which are built, financed and managed by the communities themselves, with or without government assistance. Frank Educational Centre works without governmental help. The school works thanks to the charity, little help of the community and a hard, voluntary work of the school staff

This a small school found in the vicinity of Mukuru Nyayo slums, just adjacent to Kenya Wine Agencies, located off Enterprise Road. The institution which was founded in 2005 had an initial enrolment of 5 pupils only, but with years of sound policy implementation, a well glistened teaching environment and a continuous reminder about following your dreams and promises through, has seen the school experience tremendous growth. Currently, the school has a whopping 130 students, from Baby Class to Standard 8.

1.Teach. Social Entrepreneurship

A community-based organization with the Ministry of Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services located in the Mathare slums Nairobi. It was started in 2005 by a group of young innovative people led by Nicholas Omondi and Charles Alulu. It was registered in 2006 and currently has 20 staff members who renew their membership annually and pay monthly contributions for the organization's sustainability.

Mentor people living with HIV/AIDs in the community.

On a day to day basis, visit homes of the less privileged to talk to them and give them moral support

Culture

A Non-Governmental Organization started by a Portuguese intern called Marta Baeta. She was in Nairobi for the first time in January 2012 as a volunteer for a project run by AIESEC in JKUAT. She fell in love with the country but more important she fell in love and empathised with the kids she was teaching. Eventually she started her home and is currently sponsoring over 54 children through her fundraising efforts in Portugal.

Daily Activities Include 1. Teaching the kids during holiday time 2. Playing with the children 3. Fundraising to send some of them to high-school 4. Updating on Social Media channels 5. Photography and videos 6. Providing healthcare and medicine to the children 7. Dancing and doing fun and social things with the children

OUR AIM: To persuade people to pay the ethical price of their leftover food, anywhere, anytime. INTRODUCTION FAO estimates that each year, approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption in the world is lost or wasted. This food wastage represents a missed opportunity to improve global food security, but also to mitigate environmental impacts and resources use from food chains. Facing this challenge of food waste and the difficulty in reducing our leftover food while being proponents of zero hunger in the world, we propose a new way of keeping up with leftover food.

1. Carry out sales of anti-food waste campaign to identified restaurants, hotels, eateries, etc. 2. Research and document on NGOs working on issues related to food, hunger, food waste in Kenya. 3. Seek for partners and sponsors for anti-food waste campaign. 4. Carry out food waste survey. 5. Market food waste app to food consumers at various locations. 6. Conduct interviews for restaurateurs and food consumers. 7. Edit and Make video recordings and take pictures of interview sessions. 8. Make animated videos of food statistics. 9. Media coverage of awareness campaigns. 10. Write articles about interviews and food waste findings or as per advised, for uploads on the website. 11. Promote the campaign on social media networks. 12. Design anti-food waste campaign posters.

Tunapanda spreads digital era vocational education with a primary focus on people who can't afford to download "free" educational videos from the internet. "Tunapanda" is a Swahili word that connotes them, as a group, moving upward, climbing, planting and growing. Tunapanda Institute focuses on improving digital literacy and encouraging self expression. They do so by sharing free content and micro-curricula both offline (via local networks) and online. Their goal is to use technology and free content to help millions of people in all countries climb out of poverty and achieve personal freedom.

The Dyslexia Organisation, Kenya (DOK) is dedicated to creating dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties (SLDs) awareness and engaging advocacy for individuals with dyslexia DOK is extremely proactive in creating awareness about dyslexia amongst the educational community and the general public in Kenya and the region. DOK works with schools and education authorities in furthering the acceptance of children with SLDs and enabling them to reach their full potential.

In the morning the intern is going to teach additional subjects like arts, dancing, reading, etc. according to personal interests and school's needs, to children from 5 to 11 years old. Basic audit of the situation in the project and needs assessment to ensure growth and track progress. The intern will be part of a team headed by a member of the school stuff or a team leader. The work will be divided into 2 parts: teaching in school and organization management. Keeping records of the partnerships for continuation after the intern leaves which help with follow through of potential partnerships. The interns will alternate working in the organization's offices. In the afternoon the interns will be working in team on the school's development and growth.

According to World Health Organization, mental health is not just the absence of a mental disorder. It is defined as a state of wellbeing in which every individual realizes his or her own full potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully. In most rural Kenya societies, poverty, disease as well as ignorance are the key impediments to most people unlocking their full potential. It is this that drove for the formation of EFYE. We run a series of projects given the limited resources to operate on that are all based in 3 pillars that guide us: poverty eradication through social business, disease control, quality education to all.

Teach basic Chinese to primary school students Engage in motivation, training and teaching of the students in life skills such as first Aid, entrepreneurship, cultural engagement, extracurricular activities such as games. etc. Work in liaison with the program manager to develop the projects to be effective on the organization goals. Create new projects to facilitate realization of the organization goals. Write weekly report on what, the department has accomplished and submit to the program manager intern.
