What we can do more in LCs? There are a lot of LCs who still have a lot of flyers from fall recruitment 2013. We can use them during info-tables and info-events. By choosing one flyer out of 6 types of flyers the student can read on the back what experience can fit him/her due to their choice.
As one AIESEC in Switzerland we can do even more There is one story about Origami that inspired the MC team to support all LCs even more during this Recruitment.
We want to share this story with all people who are doing recruitment now. By this story we want to connect all LCs in One AIESEC in Switzerland and make a brave action to achieve our Recruitment Goals!
The Legend
The legend goes deep into the Japanese Middle Ages, when among the aristocracy - it became popular to send messages in the form of folded paper figures ("origami"). One of the simplest figures was “TSURU" – a crane (for folding it took only 12 operations). In those days in Japan the crane symbolized happiness and longevity. Hence arose the belief - if you make a wish and put a thousand “TSURU", it is sure to be fulfilled.
On Hiroshima, Japan, the first atomic bomb was dropped. Together with half a million of its other inhabitants the family of Sadako Sasaki had to go through this trouble. Sadako Sasaki is a Japanese girl - she was two years old when the tragedy happened. The city burned down and was razed to the ground. Sadako was nearly two kilometers away from the nuclear explosion but did not get any burns or other visible damage.
Sadako Sasaki
Symptoms of radiation sickness appeared in November 1954: Sadako was participating in the school relay race. After running the girl felt very tired and dizzy for a long time. Sadako was taken to the hospital of the Red Cross. The diagnose stated that she had leukemia (blood cancer).

Sadako was in the hospital when her best friend Chizuko came and brought with her a special paper from which she made a crane, and Chizuko told Sadako the legend: The crane, which in Japan is considered to be a happy bird, lives a thousand years; if the sick person will make a thousand paper cranes, this person will get better.
The Hope The Hope Sadako believed in the legend because she wanted to live. A thousand paper cranes - a thousand pieces of paper. Sadako decided to make a thousand paper cranes, but due to illness she was very tired and could not work. As soon as she felt better, she folded the paper cranes.
There was enough time for folding cranes, but there was not enough material – paper. She used any suitable pieces of paper that she was able to get from nurses and patients, but only achieved to fold 644 cranes. Her friends completed the cranes after her death.
The little courageous girl Sadako Sasaki became a symbol of opposition to nuclear war, a symbol of protest against the war. Inspired by her courage and willpower, friends and classmates published her letter. They began planning the construction of a monument in memory of Sadako and all the other children who died from the atomic bombing. In 1958, in the Peace Park in Hiroshima was built a statue depicting Sadako with paper cranes in hand. On the pedestal of the statue is written: "This is our cry, This is our prayer for the Peace in the world."
Origami theme for Recruitment AIESEC supports student who are “a blank paper” in the beginning to find out what “shape” they want to become and gives various experiences and opportunities to become such.
The Origami crane is a symbol of striving for Peace is which fully correlates to our AIESEC mission: Peace and fulfillment of humankinds potential.
By this we open 1000Challenge! All LCs spread in total 1000 origami cranes to students during info-tables and info-events!
And boost our Recruitment Promotion!
How it can help promotion? 7 Main Action Steps:
1. Make a bunch of origami cranes for you info-tables and info-events with your EB or members 2. Invite people to choose one flyer out of 6 options (all of them have different quotes) 3. Give the an origami as a present and invite that person to get a picture taken with this origami. 4. Tell the person that you will upload their picture with origami quote from flyer they have chosen on facebook 5. Give person name of your LC facebook page 6. Write down the person’s name and surname (as in facebook) as well as the quote they’ve chosen to tag this person after he/she joins a page 7. In the description to every picture always write: #1000_challenge Shape your future! Unleash your potential! Join AIESEC: link on application
Simple calculation
1 student have aprox. 200 friends on facebook If we spread 1000 origami cranes and take a picture of each person, we can tag 1000 people. Every friend of these people can see the picture this way these pictures will be seen around 1’000*200 = 200’000 people minimum. Reading the description under each picture they can see the link for joining AIESEC and info about it.
