ABOUT AIESEC Ana Saldarriaga, Global President 15-16, AIESEC International
We want to create a movement that ignites the leadership spark in the youth of the world and transform our impact into an exciting and unstoppable force of change When an organisation talks about
Up until 2010, AIESEC had an impact on the lives of an average of 5,000 young people every year.
everyone. Since 1948, we at AIESEC have believed that cross-cultural and committed leadership are the most needed qualities to transform the world into the peaceful place that we dream it can be. The only way we can achieve this is through inspiring committed leaders that can transform our dream into a goal, and a goal into reality. We accomplish this by mobilizing young people all over the world to create a positive impact abroad, by working in a company, an NGO, or a public institution. This enables them to challenge their mindsets, learn about and respect new perspectives, and ultimately gain a deeper sense of empathy and social responsibility. Along this journey, we aim for them to develop a set of leadership skills which we believe are fundamental to achieving the ability to empower others, to be self aware and solution oriented and essentially, to be a true global citizen.
have shown exponential growth by activating approximately 130,000 young people. The organisation has made a profound transformation in the way we dare young people to dream, dare them to set goals and dare them to act ambitiously. Such massive growth in only ďŹ ve years did not come without hardships along the way and many things could have been done differently and of course, there is still a long way to go to create the monumental global impact that this organisation continually strives for. Nevertheless, it is encouraging to know that the goals set in 2010 for 2015 have revolutionised our impact and expanded our limits. We are now more connected than ever to face the real challenges of our fast-paced world. These changes have unleashed both, a new perception of what it means to work for a beter future and a new generation of AIESEC members who advocate what we as
AIESEC envision to be by 2020. In 5 years from now, we want our daily activities to be creating a movement that ignites the leadership spark in young people around the world and transform our impact into an exciting and unstoppable force of positive and inextinguishable change. By shaping what we do around what the world needs and aligning it to our ambition for peace, we are embracing the biggest change initiative ever introduced, The Global Sustainable Development Goals. We are committed to taking an active role towards this agenda in the process of creating a more relevant and accessible AIESEC. We are prepared to challenge our own status quo and initiate a process of disruptive growth to make this happen. As the Global President, I could not be prouder to lead an organisation with such brave leaders who are fully committed to being the catalysts of change that the world needs: leaders who recognise that in order to fundamentally innovate AIESEC by 2020, the transformation must come from within ourselves.

We place our confidence in youth because they have the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit that are needed to shape the future. They have the responsibility to improve tomorrow by choosing who they will be today. AIESEC was founded in 1948 after the Second World War by a group of young people from Europe (Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden). Our fundamentals were shaped by the social, economic and political climate of the time.
Since then, the world has been changing faster than ever before. We believe that young people hold the key to a better future and they must learn to adapt quickly and solve problems. This is why AIESEC strives for Peace & Fulfilment of Humankind´s Potential.
for Peace & Fulfilment of Humankind´s Potential. In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not necessarily mean only avoiding war. Peace can symbolize a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of differences in humanity. Peace can also symbolize being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace, while respecting and understanding the views of others.
Through “Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential” AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.
Our Goal Engage and Develop Every Young Person in the world by equipping them with 4 leadership characteristics: being self aware, world citizens, solution oriented and being able to empower others. Empowering Others: Communicates effectively in diverse environments Develops & empowers other people Engages with others to achieve a bigger purpose Solution oriented: Adapts and shows resilience in the face of challenges Transmits positivity to move forward throughout uncertainty Takes risks when needed Self Aware: Understands and lives personal values Focuses on strengths over weaknesses Explores one’s passions
World Citizen: Believes in their ability to make a difference in the world. Interested in the world issues. Enjoys taking responsibility for improving the world.
We place our confidence in youth because they have the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit that are needed to shape the future. They have the responsibility to improve tomorrow by choosing who they will be today.

How We Develop Leadership
We are In AIESEC we believe that developing globally minded young leaders who lead themselves, engage and lead others and positively impact their communities by taking action, creates a better world for everyone Global and Inclusive As
Cross Cultural Exchanges AIESEC provides an opportunity for young people to work or volunteer abroad in non-familiar environments. This allows them to step outside their comfort zone and expand their worldview, while contributing to the community in which they are working. Living such experiences enables people to build a better understanding of how to communicate and capitalize on diversity in our increasingly connected world. Team Experiences AIESEC members work in teams to create and manage these cross-cultural exchange experiences. This provides an opportunity for our members to live powerful team experiences and develop their own leadership potential. Inner and Outer Journey We believe that young people learn best by doing and reflecting. The following diagram shows the framework AIESEC provides in every experience, enabling young people to learn the most from every experience. The Outer Journey is the individual’s interaction with the external environment. The Inner Journey is the internal change that happens within the individual. The combination of the two ensures that what someone learns from any experience will stay with them forever

AIESEC Experience and Products As part of the strategy within 2020, AIESEC refreshed the product portfolio that we offer to young people and our partners. The AIESEC Experience consists of three phases, which are: Engagement with AIESEC, Experiential Leadership Development and Lifelong Connection. In each phase, we facilitate the development of one or more Leadership Qualities within youth.
YouthSpeak Forum YouthSpeak Forum powered by AIESEC is an event run by youth for youth, that brings together both young and senior leaders to form a diverse cross-sector and multigenerational space for inspiring conversations around pressing global, national and local issues. Through these forums, we constantly strive to shape what we do around what the world needs at the local, national and global level. Global Volunteer Global Volunteer is the cross-cultural volunteer experience for young people who seek to develop themselves and the world by working on social impact projects with NGOs and organizations that contribute to any of the Sustainable Development Goals. Global Talent Global Talent provides a global internship opportunity for young people who seek to develop their career in a multi-cultural setting. AIESEC partners with organizations and companies of all sizes from diverse sectors and industries in order to create opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. Global Entrepreneur Global Entrepreneur offers an opportunity to young people interested in developing their entrepreneurial outlook to undergo a professional development experience in a start-up. This program also makes AIESEC’s talent available to and affordable for start-up organisations.
In the term 2015-2016, we re-branded, strengthened and launched following set of products to the

market:
AIESEC Membership AIESEC by nature is independent and youth-run, implying that it is the members of AIESEC that make the organization run and grow each year across organizational levels. The majority of the 50 000 members through their own leadership development journey. Our Membership volunteer their time to create a ripple effect on others by supporting young people in all exchange related processes as well as creating spaces for those people to develop their leadership. Thanks to that, they are equipped in customer service attitude, project management skills and much more. Every year, thousands of young and highly talented people are shaped by AIESEC after intense team and leadership experiences, after which they move forward in their professional careers as they continue living the AIESEC values. The Environment Which We Create Local Volunteer To enable a greater number of people to be engaged by AIESEC and live a short-term AIESEC experience, Local Volunteer was initiated globally this year to give a “sneak peek” into what a Global Volunteer experience looks like by allowing local youth to volunteer on a project or inside an NGO alongside Global Volunteer participants.
For our membership, we follow certain standards to ensure they are able to develop themselves in the best way. Each single member of the organization needs to be a part of a team, which has a goal and plan for how to achieve it. The job description of the member contributing to this plan, alongside with functional training, are an essential part of the environment. We as well ensure that there is a system of tracking and evaluation in place and each member has a space for his/her own leadership development.

Global Volunteer is AIESEC’s program which gives young people an opportunity to volunteer abroad in different organizations or on social impact projects that focus on the direct development of the communities around the world. Global Volunteer Program offers cross-cultural experience to young people seeking to develop themselves and the world, and the opportunity to develop global mindset, leadership and soft skills by creating direct positive impact. Our main partners are NGOs, schools and orphanages, where our global volunteers spend from 6-8 weeks working on social-based issues. From July 1st 2015 until July 1st 2016, AIESEC mobilized 30.766 young people, who travelled abroad to volunteer on social impact projects and develop themselves. They worked on more than 6,000 projects, tackling issues especially related to education, cultural understanding, sustainability and human rights.
This year, 7,077 more young people volunteer abroad compared to the previous year, mostly in Asia, Latin America, Western Europe, North Africa
During 2015-2016 we evolved our business model and improved technologies behind the open platform, in order to become more customer-centric and ensure the facilitation of time in 68 years of AIESEC’s leadership development in every history, we crossed the mark of experience. This resulted in facilitating 30,000 life-changing the increase of interest in our experiences to young people programs and 58,000 platform around the world. users applying to our volunteer opportunities.

Our volunteers don’t just travel., they develop the world. Young people have the chance to become locals in an unknown environment and experience new cultures by working in a diverse, cross-cultural team.
Self-Development Young people have the opportunity to grow and develop by going through practical experiences and learning-bydoing. An intense cross-cultural environment allows them to increase their self-awareness and solution orientation, improve communication skills and develop a global mindset. They strive to become the best version of themselves.
We believe the most powerful way to learn something is to experience it. Through a complete cultural immersion and a challenging new environment, young people have the chance to rediscover themselves, increase their level of self-awareness and undergo immense personal growth. At the same time, by volunteering to address global issues hands-on in local communities, young people acquire new soft skills, evolve professionally, develop a sense of world citizenship, desire to contribute and have positive impact on society.

Evolution! Over the past 5 years, our volunteering program tackled community issues that were related to all of the 8 Millennium Development Goals. In order to stay relevant to the global agenda and upscale the impact we deliver through our programs, this year we initiated the restructuring of our projects in order to align them with the Sustainable Development Goals that were collectively agreed by the member states of United Nations in September 2015. We realized that being the largest youth-run organization, AIESEC could champion the mobilizing of young people to contribute to the SDGs through our global volunteering projects.

Stories of Impact: Projects contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals
Europe, Belgium, Greece, Finland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland: InteGREAT
Middle East and Africa, Egypt:
InteGREAT is the project that aims to foster the integration of refugees in European communities. By working together with NGOs and local communities, InteGREAT mobilizes young volunteers from all over Europe to contribute to the social inclusion and cultural integration of asylum-seekers and refugees. The InteGREAT initiative supports the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development, namely Goal #10: Reduced Inequalities.
Empower This project aims to support Egypt in achieving Gender Equality, which is one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (Goal #5). Gender equality is a must in order to ensure all forms of discrimination against women and girls are eliminated, and ensure equal opportunities. Through these efforts, we aim to spread awareness on the issue within the Egyptian community, as well as support women in overcoming the challenges they face on a daily basis. The project is run in partnership with a local organization that directly contributes to enhancing gender equality in Egypt.
Volunteers were facilitating teaching and recreational activities for young refugees and asylum seekers hosted by an NGO. Also they delivered workshops about the country’s social and cultural context, or language classes. Volunteers were helping give media coverage and visibility to the refugees’ stories and activities on an international level.
Americas, Mexico: Hometown Project This project supports Indonesian community in achieving Good Health and Well-being, which is one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (Goal #3). Currently 10-16% adults globally experience the symptoms of kidney disease. In Indonesia, kidney failure is the 4th largest leading cause of death. The habit of consuming water is one way to maintain healthy kidneys. Through the Hometown Project, AIESEC in Indonesia together with its partner DANONE Aqua strived to help its members together international volunteers and young Indonesians to care for the healthiness of society with activities that can raise the importance of water consumption, kidney health, and a healthy lifestyle.
Somos Project The project of “Somos México” emerged as an idea to attack a major problem in the city of Monterrey, which is discrimination. The project goal was to reduce inequalities that indigenous women suffered and to achieve this, they were going to give out entrepreneurship workshops,

Our next Mid-term Ambition: AIESEC 2020 and Global Roadmap
Shaping what we do around the world needs: Being aware of global and local issues, we act quickly to respond to them by offering powerful leadership experiences. We collaborate with like-minded organizations that, like us, strive for a better world. Through this, we take part in global and local decision making processes.
From a youth-led organization to a Youth Leadership Movement term ambition is a milestone towards our vision which we set each 5 years. It took two years to set up this process that enabled our vastly diverse organization to come together to that image of what we want to become for the world. Using Future Search as method to create this ambition, AIESEC 2020 was born. AIESEC 2020 represents the dreams of thousands of AIESECers that came together to create our next mid-term ambition, from the 900 delegates present at the International Congress in India (August 2015), to the more than 10.000 young people from all over the AIESEC network who participated virtually. We were able to put together a process that by including as many perspectives as possible allowed us to create a future image of the kind of organization we want to become, the kind of youth movement we will be.
Growing disruptively: Doing the same things is not enough to one day engage and develop every young person in the world. ways to grow faster and be better. Every AIESECer seeks for solutions and acts upon them every day. We are an AIESEC that is able to grow from 5 to 500 exchange experiences within a few weeks.
This mid-term ambition is summarized in four statements: We are a youth Leadership Movement youth & like-minded organizations around the globe to act as one. When people think of leadership development, they think of AIESEC.
Being accessible to everyone, everywhere: Anyone can experience AIESEC, be it physically, virtually, directly or indirectly. We actively break our geographical and social barriers to make it possible for every young person in the world to live an AIESEC experience.

The Conference in a nutshell: The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are an ambitious
a better world. On September 25th, 2015, 193 world leaders committed to 17 goals keeping these three fragments of a world vision in mind. With about 1.8 billion young people composing the world’s population, it is evident how huge a role the youth can opt to play in achieving this. Young people are critical positive agents of change. Movements in human history have witnessed that when young people take to a cause, protests and energy is elevated. Activism steps up when young people readily catalyse them. However, the world’s youth population is not entirely hale enough to take up the initiative to contribute It started with the information and education about the Sustainable Development Goals and the clarity of basing our actions around what the world needs. The delegates understood the present and the current state of the world and came up with trends shaping it, statistics, potential dangers and solutions. Speakers included the United Nations Deputy-Secretary General Jan Eliasson and Envoy on Youth, Mr. Ahmad Alhendawi who highlighted the central role of young people to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, noting that next General’s Envoy on Youth will be launching a Global Youth Partnership
for SDGs for young people to take action and showcase best practices. Furthermore, Mitchell Toomey from United Nations Millennium Campaign, Nora Wu Global Capital Leader of PWC, Christopher Ian Morris Head of NGO and Civil Society Center of ADB, Douglas Ranan of UN Habitat, Henrik Sundström, Vice President, Group Sustainability Affairs of Electrolux, Sergio Fernandez de Cordova CEO of PVBLIC, Philip Chlotier from Barret Values Centre, who all approached the challenges and opportunities of the current global context, and provided key elements on how to engage youth, private sector and the public sectors to achieve the sustainable development goals. Finally several workshops were held to shape the above described challenges into collaborative projects among different sectors of society business, government, civil society, and youth with the focus on the needs of the world and the Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, the delegates looked into how to implement projects, partnerships and new initiatives regionally, nationally and locally. The Media were there publicizing the outcomes and strategizing on how to engage the public in a way that generates ownership of them and the Sustainable Development Goals. At the end, AIESEC launched its commitment and contribution towards the Sustainable Development Goals - a commitment of young people to make the Global Goals happen.

a common ground in the nature of both entities and the reason for which we partner with AIESEC is because we want to Empower, Engage and Inspire youths to take actions to stay a step ahead in life and in society. We believe that this is the point where this partnership brings added value in the world, not only for ING or AIESEC as organization. Together we build a partnership that will bring both ING and AIESEC closer to achieving their vision as organizations. On the one hand, it is a partnership where AIESEC offers access to an international pool of talent, young people with diverse backgrounds/ nationalities and leadership experience that are ready to bring on board innovative ideas to support ING in staying a step ahead and think beyond traditional banking. On the other hand, ING is supporting AIESEC to achieve its purpose of generating more leadership developing experiences in the world.
We can recognize the value that AIESEC brought in the world only by looking to the impact it had over ING in the 10 years of partnership we had so far. Besides the CEO of ING, Ralph Hamers, over 50 other AIESEC alumni work now for ING only in The Netherlands. Starting with last year, ING accessed for the bringing 4 AIESEC interns in ING and this was a game changer for the partnership’s value and the way we see the international programs that AIESEC is developing. Now we are looking to expand the partnership and bring on board ING Poland by having the model of collaboration between AIESEC and ING Belgium. The impact that AIESEC had in ING empowers us to believe in the impact and the value point that this partnership can bring in the entire world

AIESEC has performed well enabling Entities’ operations led to greater investments ended 31 May 2016 in terms of to accelerate the system’s development for which some results. there is an ongoing project at the moment, the suspense account can only be completely and all outputs are approved, meaning all payments have been received and all expenses are processed. Similarly, the PwC GCDP sponsorship revenues and expenses are in a suspense account while the projects are executed. Additionally, member committees’ liabilities grew due to the Apple partnership, where done jointly with some entities because of particular invoicing instructions in the global contract. In 1516, the AI Team was unexpectedly evicted from their residence in Rotterdam (Hofdijk), after the landlord decided last minute to not renew the lease (the 5-year lease had been renewed once before, totaling 10 years of AI Teams living there under this contract). The decision was informed to AI in May 2016, therefore the incoming and outgoing teams had to hurry to leave Hofdijk in the conditions demanded by the landlord and on the time agreed by both parts. This situation implied moving, new tenancy agreements and deposits to be paid in May and liquidation from Hofdijk by July 2016, which is shown in the balance sheet. Although an estimation of wage
increments had been done, the actual increments surpassed the forecast; yet, this did not imply over expenditures. Regarding travel budget, one of the biggest variable costs, this year we implemented stronger budget controlling systems and therefore, we present no over expenditure of the AI team’s travelling budget lines and have a decrease of €27,626 from the previous term. Still, great travelling investments were consciously made to have representation in different events (e.g. New UN Secretary General Appointment Retreat, opening event of the 70th General Assembly of the UN, ECOSOC Youth Forum, JCI Work Congress 2015), to form new alliances and partnerships, maintain and improve current ones, and train/coach Entities. Moreover, AIESEC’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), resulted in a series of activities and investments made in order to showcase our commitment, partner with other organizations to contribute to their awareness and achievement, represent youth’s voice and provide a focus and framework to the network to align our operations with this world initiative. An important example of this is the event Youth Action Summit organized by AIESEC and hosted in the UN headquarters in New York in December of 2015. This event implied an extra investment which was greatly supported by our partners, ADB, PwC and Electrolux, and resulted in AIESEC formally committing to mobilize youth into action for the SDGs, providing a space for youth to learn and express their views on the matter and connecting the organization with major political
actors and world organizations. The costs associated to this new event account for the increase in Meeting and conferences expenses. Another special development was the creation and launch of Youth for Global Goals (Y4GG) initiative, which aims to generate awareness and understanding of the SDGs, gather and share youth’s views through the YouthSpeak Survey, raise youth’s voice and connect with other organizations through YouthSpeak Forums and create exchange projects that are directed towards the achievement of the SDGs. The corporate sponsorship increased this term after a decrease last term. The goal was to have €677,240 in revenue and we surpassed our goal, obtaining €703,415.29. This reflects the hard work put into maintaining and strengthening the partnerships left by previous terms, upscaling and renegotiating some partnerships, offering new opportunities for partners to contribute and benefit from, and engaging new organizations to work with us. We focused on obtaining more strategic partnerships that can contribute in different ways, not only to our operations, but also to AIESEC’s growth and the fulfillment of our vision, while leaving partnerships that will benefit future terms. The ADB partnership, PwC’s GCDP sponsorship and Electrolux’s SDGs projects are examples of this. A financial managerial decision was made to write off all bad debts that had accumulated during previous terms and that were not going to be recuperated (payments we were not going to receive), which added up to
€69,136.78. These prior terms adjustments decrease 1516’s revenues but give a clean start for the Global Office for the next term. Nevertheless, we were able to obtain a profit after recognizing that significant “expense”. Many organizations across the world are turning to AIESEC to provide high quality internationally mobile talent, and many students are taking the opportunity to gain some international work experience through AIESEC before looking for full time employment or becoming entrepreneurs themselves. Our organization is experiencing unprecedented levels of growth currently achieving 37,483 international internships, - 30,826 in our Global Community Development Programme and 6,657 in our Global Internship Program. AIESEC also provided Team Leadership and Team Member Experiences for over 50,000 young people in the year which ended 31 May 2015. AIESEC has a membership of around 70,000 students and recent graduates from around the world. AIESEC currently has 122 Member Committees and Contracted Units. It is present with initiatives in another 9 countries and territories.
