“The art of communication is the language of leadership.” AIESEC in University of Malaya
In conjunction with ‘Karnival Sukerelawan’ held by Sekretariat Sukerelawan Univeristi Malaya (SEKRUM), AIESEC in UM was invited to attend the Breakfast Talk: Dialogue with Deputy Vice Chancellor. The objective of the dialogue is to bridge the connection between our admin and the students. This dialogue also gave us a space for better understanding on what the university administration is doing for the student bodies in UM. “When we are talking about organizations that develop soft skills, I think AIESEC is a good example in this.” – Yg. Bhg. Prof Dr. Rohana Yusof, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) of UM. She complemented us on our professionalism in providing leadership development to the youth community.
In conjunction with our Global Volunteer promotion, we ran a campaign named “Carpe Diem” which means “enjoy yourself while you have the chance”.
On the 8th of May, we went to the International University of Malaya–Wales (IUMW) for our promotional campaign. Special thanks to Student Council of IUMW for supporting our promotion. We were able to attract some of the students to sign up as Global Volunteers. They have made their choice, how about you?
On the 19th of May, we held a soft skills workshop for our members so that they can develop their skills in presentation and digital marketing.
It was our utmost pleasure to have Mr. Kevin Khoo from Junior Chamber International (JCI) Mines and Ms. Raeesa Sya, CEO of Orkid Cosmetics to be our speakers. Nonetheless, we also have our very own former Vice President of Incoming Global Volunteer 2016, Alex Lim to deliver session for our members. Kevin from JCI Mines delivered a session on presentation skills. We had a lot of fun trying out activities to improve our presentation skills under the guidance of Kevin. He taught us how to be more confident in presentations and overcome our fear.
For digital marketing, we had Ms. Raeesa who shared her own experiences with us on how to do digital marketing effectively. She shared us a lot of tips and tricks on how do create better posts with captions that can attract more youth. Not only on Facebook, we also learnt how can Instagram work as a digital marketing platform.
Apart from these learning sessions, we also had fun with our AIESEC alumni, Alex Lim who brought in interesting activities for us. In AIESEC, we do not just work, we also learn through fun activities and this is what keep us up all the time.

“See the world, make it yours
Nobody knows food like Malaysians do. Malaysia is a melting pot of cultures and that is quite evident in all of our local cuisines. However, the harsh reality of it all is that despite being a food paradise, we are a giant food dump as well. About 15,000 tonnes of food is wasted daily, which is enough to feed about 7.5 million people a day. We realize that the root of this problem is the mindset of Malaysians. Thus, AIESEC in Malaysia, University of Malaya is running a local project – Clean Our Plate to curb this issue. Starting from the end of June, we will be having our international volunteers with us to run workshops around Klang Valley. We do need help from you in our social project. We are currently looking for volunteers to participate in manning the booth with these job descriptions: 1. Passing out flyers on food waste to the people passing by. 2. Explaining more on food waste details to them (You will be given some education regarding this). 3. Guiding them to nominate charitable organizations that requires surplus food. 4. Guiding them to nominate schools where they want Food Waste Awareness Workshop to be held.

“I have never expected myself to discover so much in AIESEC. Every day is a new challenge for me. Trying out new things and discover the inner part of myself. I have never know that I could actually do those things that I dare not to try last time. I always get different insights and realization in every conference and most importantly, AIESEC taught me about life and discover my own strengths and weaknesses. For me, all these are the valuable things that I couldn't get from other clubs or societies. Goh Kheng Yee Vice President, Finance and Legalities 2016
“AIESEC works in a very professional way and takes me through many types of tasks. It’s very good filter to know my own strength, weakness, and what I should improve on. From time to time, I receive a good amount of feedback for a better future-self.” “Young people can be so much innovative and so much influential to the society and AIESEC is trying to guide this passionate youth power towards a better world. What's so important is that I am a part of something that is shaping the mindset of the future generation. How wonderful a vision is that!” Samira Yeameen Rasul Director, Outgoing Global Volunteer 2016
