Global Citizen

MY EXPERIENCE Volunteering overseas with AIESEC has allowed me to better appreciate my role as a global citizen. I realised that everyone is bounded universally, through new friendships, mutual affections, and the exchanging of cultures speaking the same language has become secondary.

However, over the two months, not only have I learnt how to appreciate the little things that I used to take for granted back home, I have also gained more confidence, independence, and global awareness. For the first time ever, I tried backpacking across Eastern Europe on my own, meeting lots of wonderful people along the way, and gaining very insightful perspectives from people on the other side of the world. It has definitely been a memorable experience that I

I have travelled quite a fair bit over the years, but my AIESEC adventure has enriched me like no other travel experiences have. I started my trip on a flight alone to Budapest, putting on a brave front and biting my nails throughout the 30 hours journey. Rather than scared, I was more worried. It is, after all, a pretty big commitment an eight weeks volunteering trip in a foreign land, with no friends or family members by your side. I was worried that I would not get accustomed to the weather, to the food, to the people. And worst of all, I was worried that I was going to miss home.
