WHY TAIWAN DIVERSITY Taiwan provides you the opportunity to experience a diverse culture with different cuisines and events all within the same country.

EXPERIENCE You might think you know a lot about Taiwan since it seems so similar to other Asian countries but once you immerse yourself within the understand that there is a world outside of your bubble and you will become more open-minded.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT Project Name: Dream Beyond Language Location: Tainan, Taiwan Duration: 7.5 weeks Issue Segment: Education

PROJECT OVERVIEW The project focuses on teaching primary school children Australian culture and helping them understand the world beyond their own. In the process, you will be constructing and preparing presentations and other class materials. It requires a well-planned out schedule and a clear knowledge of Australian culture and the English language. You will be teaching a class of about 25, however, you may be teaching multiple classes or even large assembles for the whole school.

PROJECT SNAPSHOT Project Name: True Colour, True Power Location: Taipei, Taiwan Duration: 6 weeks Issue Segment: Culture, Education

PROJECT OVERVIEW The exchange participant will be introduced to Taiwanese culture and lifestyle through reception by the local AIESEC in Taiwan and through the school that the exchange participant is based at. The exchange participant will be given the opportunity to engage with students (high school or primary school) and teachers and prepare class material with the teachers to teach with. The exchange participant may be asked to introduce Australian culture and lifestyle creating an exchange of cultures. The exchange participant may be given the opportunity, depending on the school, to engage with cultural activities such as calligraphy and the school activities (School Sports Carnival).

This is the most fundamental aspect of the Global Citizen project under the educational category. It involves the development of the English language for primary school children, ranging from the ages of 5 and 12. It involved

Taiwan prides itself on weekend camp trips with families and I was lucky to be invited on two separate occasions to do so. The idea of camping is profoundly different from the way we would perceive it. Their idea of camping involves the use of multiple electronic goods and camping grounds generally had access to public showers, electricity and wifi.

The choir school performance was a local as well as national competition for Taiwan schools to showcase their ability to perform. The performance had a foundation of increasing the awareness for the need to understand English. The dance and singing performance was in English and the script was taken from traditional English story tales.

COST BREAKDOWN The Global Citizen Program requires a $700 administration fee to be paid to AIESEC QUT once applicant has passed their interview and signed the contract. View below for an explanation as to what is included in the fee. The following is an example budget breakdown of minimum expenses that can be expected during a standard 6 week project in Taiwan. This does not include the administration fee, leisure and travel costs.

MY EXPERIENCE In all honestly, AIESEC exchange to Taiwan will always be a fundamental part of my life. I was able to gain so much in such a short period of time, understanding the importance of leadership, courage, time management, patience and independence.

Prior of the volunteer program, I anything and I was ignorant to the world around me. I was able to grasp a better understanding and widen my view on the world.
