Newsletter 002 │ I Got the Power │ Cycle 2011/2012
HAWRA’S THOUGHTS Dear LC Stockholm, “I Got the Power” might sound cliché to some of you; some other might take it as a cool thing. A few on the other hand might think it smells arrogance and cockiness. No matter how you take it, here’s my definition of this concept. “I Got the Power” is a fusion of confidence, self-awareness, knowledge and ambition. However having all these four strengths doesn’t mean that you got the power “på köpet”. As I mentioned, a fusion of these four elements will give you the “Power”. For fusion energy, you need extremely high temperatures like the temperature of our sun. For the fusion of these four wonderful atoms, you need “Passion”; a very rare element which is not to be found anywhere these days. No wonder why this concept was chosen as a theme for our “Roll Call” because we not only think but also believe that “We Got the Power…” Yours Truly, LCP 2011-2012
A NEW YEAR, A NEW SEASON SO WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO JANUARY 2012? Christmas Countdown Right before New Year’s, we held a Christmas Countdown on our Facebook page. With the countdown, we also debuted our venturing into the world of QR codes. For a recap, click here. Välkomstdagen Stockholm University is one of our main campuses for recruitment of members and interns. It only seemed natural to help welcome both old and new students to the main campus. We were also visited by one of our own alumni: Sajid Alvi, former member of ICX. Plus, we managed to establish contact with over 20 students, interested in the AIESEC experience! Podio A FULL sponsorship was secured with Podio regarding the premium subscription version of their intranet platform. AIESEC Stockholm will handle much of its internal communication through podio.com, which will also help document our activities for future cycles. Thinking sustainably, indeed! T-Shirts If anything screams team spirit except for shouts and roll calls, it’s matching t-shirts. We are awaiting the delivery of our new timeless AIESEC Stockholm T-shirts, sponsored by Electrolux. It will certainly be exciting to sport the t-shirts at the IMPACT conference in Linköping/Norrköping this spring! The Photo Exhibit We held a two-day photo exhibit on the main campus of Stockholm University, showcasing photos sent in from LCs from all over the world. The exhibit was also shown at LC-Meeting III. We will hold the event at SU later this spring, once again.
LEAD Conference The EBs in Sweden attended the LEAD Conference in Stockholm – hosted by AIESEC Sweden. The conference focused on rallying the troops, voting for the next cycle of MC members and an inspiration seminar by Lennart Bjurström. Originally from Sweden, it was during his term as President of AIESEC International in 1990-1991 that AIESEC developed its current logo. His main advice: “Always think about the end in sight first.” …And to read the book: “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”.
LC-Meeting III Our latest event was packed with its own separate happenings: 1. The LCP Election, where Kim Dywling from the Finance team was elected LCP for cycle 2012/2013. Congratulations AIESEC Stockholm and Kim! 2. The roll call competition, where AIESEC Stockholm’s first proper roll call in a very long time was chosen. The winning contribution was by the TM team. But let’s keep the details about this roll call a secret until the IMPACT conference this March ;) 3. The movie ticket competition; where the winner was Siddharth Madan from the Communications team. Siddharth promised to watch the latest Mission Impossible movie. 4. The Best Teams Awards, which were awarded to the TM team and the OGX Team for their outstanding work in recruiting applicants interested in internships abroad. Congratulations, TM and OGX!
Recruiting Incoming Interns! The ICX team has been busy finding perfect candidates to present to our partners. If you know of anyone (living abroad) who would like to do an internship in Stockholm, let us know :)
