FLIGHTS OF FLOWERY FANCY Get ready to party! Nouméa’s traditional Carnival hits the streets on Saturday 12 September from 5 p.m onwards. Ever a hugely popular extravaganza, this year's 28th Carnival is all about flowers and will feature 17 carnival groups whose floats, costumes and dances will be a veritable explosion of exuberant

colour and riotous blossoms, accompanied by joyful music to delight the thousands of revellers lining the route. An ecstatic parade which will end in style at Place des Cocotiers with a grand firework display and a community dance.

Guest stars from Nice S tre e t s h ow s p e c i a l i s ts Planète Vapeur from French Riviera hotspot Nice, famous

the world over for its spectacular carnival, will be taking par t in the parade and presenting a breathtaking show that is quite simply out-of-this-world! Further details at www.noumea.nc

A fascinating new exhibition is being hosted by Nouméa's WW2 Museum to mark the 70th anniversary of V-J Day, when Japan signed the surrender document officially ending World War II. Featuring attractive displays to appeal to all, the 3-part exhibition includes: a first section dedicated to the signing of the instrument of surrender, a second section on the representatives of the allied powers involved in the Asia-Pacific War, and a third section with models of planes which circled over USS Missouri during the signing. The exhibition will run until 13 December. WW2, 14 avenue Paul Doumer, Downtown, Nouméa, Tel 27 48 70
