Observe but don’t disturb
A number of key local players are involved in a new sea turtle ecotourism initiative designed to allow visitors to watch adult turtles nesting and baby turtles hatching on Roche Percée beach at Poé, without any risk of disturbing them.
01/12 ` 28/02 BOURAIL This year, for the very first time, with the active support of a turtle conservation group, members of the public can take part in a special turtle observation program running from early December to late February.
From December onwards, there are evening visits to watch adult turtles nesting, and early morning visits during February to see the hatchlings emerging. Strict rules are implemented to ensure sustainable and responsible behaviour and prevent any disturbance of this timeless, complex and vulnerable process.
Tickets: www.eticket.nc. The web page also provides details of all safeguards set in place. Visits are not open to children aged under 7. Shuttle transport from/ to key accommodation venues: 4 people minimum Tel 82 00 06 or 74 24 22 bourailbus@gmail.com
