Norwegian Tail-fin Heroes - Harvey Milk

Our cover story this month is about United’s ‘Her Art Here’ initiative, by which two female artists will have their art appear on a Boeing 757.

One airline which makes special designs and liveries a regular design feature is Norwegian, with its “tail-fin heroes.” The tail-fin heroes are meant to be “personalities who have pushed boundaries.”

Norwegian’s aircraft features tail-fin heroes from all the Nordic countries, as well as Spain, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Argentina and the USA.

The latest hero, unveiled in March, is Harvey Milk. Milk was a US civil rights leader and one of the world’s first openly gay elected public officials. Harvey Milk’s image will appear on the tail-fin of one of the airline’s 787 Dreamliners.

According to Britain’s Mirror newspaper, as well as putting Harvey Milk on one of its aircraft, the airline will be supporting the Harvey Milk Foundation, and collaborate with the organisation on inclusion and diversity initiatives.
