During your time at AISHK, your tennis career and achievements were inspiring to the school community. Will you be pursuing your tennis career after AISHK? Yes; I’m really looking forward to playing tennis at a university level and hopefully becoming recognised as an All-American athlete. I’ll also continue to strive to maintain a balance with my schoolwork. Congratulations on your scholarship offer! Can you tell us a little bit about your course and university? I plan on taking Economics with specialisation in Data Sciences at the University of Chicago. It’s one of the most renowned universities for the program with 6 Nobel Prize Laureates as current faculty members, among the 30 awardees in Economic Sciences. I’m excited to learn from the world’s best! Was this area of study always of interest or did it develop at a later stage? Economics was one of my strongest subjects during the time I took IB and I had developed a much deeper interest in it, along with understanding. When the university offered me a spot on the tennis team, I was quick to accept, having known its prestigious program for a subject I very much enjoyed. What was your first reaction when you found out you received your scholarship? I was overwhelmed to say the least because, not only am I the first of my family to attend a university, but I am also one of the fortunate few who are able to qualify for the scholarship. I also felt very proud that my efforts in and outside the classroom had paid off. Aside from your studies, what else are you looking forward to/ plan to do having graduated from AISHK? I look forward to living independently in a completely foreign country and am excited to experience the new adventures that Chicago has to offer. Aside from my academic and sporting commitments, I hope the coming four years will see growth in my character, as well as bountiful opportunities to meet new and possibly influential people.
