As a University of Cambridge Examination Centre, the school wants to prepare its children for the examinations they will take in the summer. It was decided, as part of assessment for learning, to give the children the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned this term.

Они показали нам несколько особенных подарков, которые приготовили для своих мам, и нарисовали настоящую «школьную маму».Каждый ребёнок с благодарностью написал о том, что мама делает для него. Таким образом мы рассказали, какие замечательные у нас мамы и как они о нас заботятся. ■

They saw gigantic gorillas lumber about with their babies in tow, wildly colored mandrills that leaped, played and splashed in water as we looked on at them, tiny capuchins and tamarins who looked almost like big eyed squirrels, and moved just as fast.
It was a great experience that combined

kindergarten children from Atlantic school focused on a “Kind Hearts” theme throughout the week. This was lead by the teachers from Dubrovka with the participation of the other kindergarten teachers from Skolkovo. he
Visiting an orphanage in Kolomna was the highlight of the event. They were kind enough and gave us a tour around their building; with their children’s outstanding work on display. We got acquainted with children of different age groups and they welcomed us with a smile. They also invited us to see the gym, cinema and the offices of both the psychologist and the speech therapist. It was so interesting to see their apartments and living conditions and to truly understand their life. Both the teachers from the Atlantic International School and the children enjoyed deco-
rating picture frames with different art materials such as beads, sequins, ribbons and the like, which made the visit worthwhile. Getting acquainted created a positive atmosphere both for the children and staff.

С заданием дети успешно справились. Атмосфера во время нашего визита была очень теплая, дружелюбная, а занятие оказалось интересным и вызвало много положительных эмоций не только у детей, но и у педагогов детского дома.

We watched some short video clips about the Seven Wonders of the World, discussed how they were made, and learned some interesting facts about them. Each group took turns showing the displays we made

DAY OF NATIONAL FOOD AND DRESS kindergarten at Dubrovka spent one week, 14-18 November, celebrating all of the cultures represented at our school. Wednesday was a particularly special day. Each child came to the kindergarten dressed in a national costume and shared their knowledge of their home country with us. Even the teachers took part in this activity, and a professional photographer came to take pictures of us all in our beautiful costumes. In the afternoon, we had a special snack time. Из наших домов мы построили целый город. Все работы по этой теме получились такими красивыми, что мы не могли не представить их на большом стенде в холле, потому что очень гордились ими. этом

изучали из чего строят дома, и даже сделали небольшую театральную постановку «Три поросенка». Очень интересно было узнать, какими бывают дома в разных странах. В заключение занятия все играли в игру «Угадайка». Прошедшая неделя была замечательной: мы многое изучили и многому научились, развивали творческие способности, речь, внимание и навык письма, обводя дома и домики или закрашивая их пальчиковыми красками. ■

Children also took care of the beans they started watering the previous week and planted the ones with distinctive roots. On Thursday our little explorers tried making ice-cream. They enjoyed the process greatly as they followed instructions that worked like magic and of course the icecream turned out to be delicious. It was a busy week. Kids were introduced to new sounds and letters, counted backwards and found out that one more is +1, did some amazing relaxing yoga, crafted presents for their beloved mums and were rehearsing for the mini-concert. But there’s no place like home so during weekend the kids will have rest and come back full of energy and ready for another busy week. ■

21-25 ноября группа Reception старалась узнать все о воде. Дети играли со столиком для воды, наблюдали превращение воды в пар, пробовали замораживать воду и топить лед. Одновременно с этим они вели наблюдение за посаженной ими ранее фасолью, поливая её и ухаживая за ростками. Все свои наблюдения они отражали в дневниках наблюдений. А четверг наши юные исследователи делали мороженное. Рецепт был необычен: все ингредиенты нужно было 10 минут встряхивать под музыку. Ребятам конечно же, понравилось это занятие. Но еще больше им понравилось то, что в результате получилось: своё мороженое. Прошедшая неделя была

Мане вдохновил группу Pre-Nursery на создание картины «Кувшинки». Чтобы сделать такую картину, ребята выполняли рисунки акварелью, лепили из пластилина, делали аппликации. Так совпало, что на пошлой неделе у знаменитого художника был день рождения (исполнился 171 год со дня рождения). Мы уверены в том, что наша работа получила бы высокую оценку Клода Мане. лод

Monet was the inspiration for pre-nursery to paint, stick and collage waterlilies. It just so happened, that it was Claude Monet’s birthday last week (171 years old!) I’m sure he would have approved of our future generation of artists!

was a very busy month at Atlantic Kindergarten! Not only did the children put on a wonderful concert for Mother’s Day, they also participated in Art Week and attended a very exciting assembly about Scotland. The children were very enthusiastic about Art Week. In Nursery A we took an in depth look at the world of colours. We looked at colours in the world around us, learned about different shades of colour and made a beautiful poster all about colours in our world. ovember
The children truly enjoyed learning all about Scotland, the home country of Year 2 teacher Miss Suzanne who led the assembly. Together all the children learned about the different animals that live in Scotland, traditional Scottish clothing such as kilts, and the very scary mythical creature known as the Loch Ness Monster. In preparation for the assembly the children learned the songs “Mary had a little lamb” and “Baa baa black sheep”, both of which they put a strong effort into singing at assembly.

It is hard to imagine that the children had any time to prepare for their first big concert of the year –Mother’s Day. With all of our lessons about our homes, our families, and the world around us, it seemed like our days were already much too full. But, still managed to make time to prepare something extra special for the very important people in our

ello!
We are very glad to introduce ourselves and our children. Hi, I’m Helen and I am currently working as the International English Reception class teacher alongside Irina. I am originally from the North East of England. I trained at St Martin’s College in Lancaster for a degree in Early Childhood Education and Primary Teaching giving me the opportunity to teach from birth to eleven year olds. One of my great interests is dance and I have gained teaching qualifications for tap, ballet, stage and modern dance. I also have an interest in languages. My interest for French allowed me to teach English at a Primary School in Paris whilst I was at University. The challenge of teaching a new language to the children here in Moscow as well as the British Curriculum attracted me to the position. Irina has graduated from the State Teaching University, She had experience working as an English and German teacher. This fact gives her the opportunity to work with different ages of children. But she has decided to specialise in Early Years, as She has found they are more open for communication. She values their sense of humour,
and every time she notices it, Irina put down their jokes or funny phrases. She likes to find new ways to develop each child’s individuality. There are currently eighteen children in the class. In Reception we learn through play. We begin our day with Mathematics and Phonics, and have English and topic in the afternoon as well as specialist lessons. So far our topics have been: Artists, Zoo, Circus, Builders and currently Winter. This allows the children continue to develop their creativity and skills, applying them to a variety of new learning situations. We are proud of the progress our children have made since September and look forward to the year ahead. Finally we would like to thank the parents of our class as we are very grateful for the constant support they give us! ■

Меня зовут Хелен, я работаю преподавателем в международной группе Reception вместе с Ириной. Родом я из cеверозападной Англии. Там в колледже Святого Мартина я получила степень по раннему дошкольному образованию и обучению, что дает мне право обучать детей. Я увлекаюсь современными танцами и хорошо отбиваю чечётку. Ещё я люблю французский язык. Знание его позволило мне работать учителем английского языка в начальной школе в Париже, когда я была ещё студенткой. В школу «Атлантик» меня привлекла возможность преподавать детям иностранный язык в соответствии с британской системой обучения. Мы работаем вместе с
Ириной. Она закончила Государственный педагогический университет и имеет опыт работы преподавателя английского и немецкого языков. Ей нравится работать в младшей возрастной группе, потому что она считает таких детей более открытыми для общения и познания нового. Она ценит их чувство юмора и каждый раз, когда замечает его проявление, записывает детские шутки или смешные фразы. Ирина находит всё новые возможности для развития индивидуальности каждого ребенка. Сейчас в нашем классе восемнадцать человек. Мы об-
учаем их в игре. День наш начинается с математики и фонетики, а вечером у нас - английский язык. Мы уже изучили следующие темы: “Зоопарк”, “Цирк”, “Стройка” и готовимся перейти к теме “Зима”. Создавая во время игры незнакомые обучающие ситуации, мы успешно развиваем умения и навыки детей. Мы гордимся теми успехами, которые смогли достичь наши дети с начала сентября и хотим выразить благодарность родителям наших детей, которые оказывают нам постоянную поддержку и всех сердечно поздравить с наступающим Новым 2012 годом ! ■
