OVERVIEW The Atlantic International School Curricula span foundation stage, primary and secondary years. From the ages 5-18, the AIS curricula focus on the core subjects of English, Math’s and Science.

Completely modernized buildings with light, fully furnished classrooms

The Foundation Stage Programme in Atlantic International School is designed to provide children with the opportunity to explore and interact with the world around us. Children learn new things by experimenting and playing with a variety of materials, which lets them get deeper understanding of the concepts and rules the world is based on. In the process of acquiring new concepts children learn English naturally and effectively, also at this age the level of English is approaching proficiency in their native language. The Cambridge International Primary Programme includes a framework to develop Mathematics, English and Science skills and knowledge in young children. It allows us to assess learning as students progress, with annual progression tests and analysis tools that allow to identify strengths and weaknesses within subject areas. At the end of the course, a Checkpoint Test allows student progress to be recorded and benchmarked. The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme follows the same pattern. It provides a coherent core around which our teachers can construct the programmes that best suit students. Cambridge Checkpoint is a test to evaluate continued progress, diagnose strengths and weaknesses, and assess the readiness of students to embark on international qualifications like Cambridge IGCSE.

PAGE 14

Cambridge IGCSE is one of the most recognised qualifications around the world. It brings out the best in students and develops successful learners through a skills-based approach to teaching and assessing.

Cambridge International A level is one of the most respected qualifications around the world and accepted as proof of academic ability for entry to universities worldwide. Cambridge International A levels offer a flexible course of study that gives students the freedom to select the combination of subjects that is right for them.

AIS FOUNDATION STAGE PROGRAMME Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Reception - Early Childhood (ages 2 to 5) The Kindergarten provides an environment that is happy, warm, secure and stimulating. Through the Early Years curriculum we enable children to develop a strong sense of self whilst also learning to play, negotiate and co-operate with others.

curriculum offers a wide range of experiences for all children and allows them to deepen their understanding by playing, talking, observing, planning, questioning, experimenting, testing, repeating, reflecting and responding to adults and each other.

Children aged 2-5 are constantly encountering new experiences and seeking to understand them The Foundation Stage allows pupils to access in order to extend their skills, develop their confi- learning relating to all of the six areas during the dence and build on what they already know. Our whole day both indoor and outdoor.

Early years foundation stage profile During Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception your child will have a personal folder created for them by their teachers. This folder is called a profile and is used to create a picture of your child progress throughout his/her year. The profile contains: • photographic evidence from independent play; • incidental observations recording children freechoice actions and knowledge; • timed observation on specific areas of learning; • examples from work during focused lessons • examples of responses from children to structured questions

W

ithin focused activity sessions children will have the opportunity to work with the teacher for short periods of time and also independently have the opportunity to participate in other areas of play, including role-play, construction, small world play designed by the teacher to support and enhance their understanding of what is being taught. These will also include kinesthetic, auditory and visual styles of learning.

CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY PROGRAMME Lower Primary - year groups 1-2 Upper Primary - year groups 3-6

A Cambridge International Primary Programme • A curriculum for children aged 5 - 11 • Excellent preparation for secondary education • Focuses on English, Mathematics, Science and ICT skills in young children • Shows your child’s progression throughout their primary education • Certificate of Achievement for each child at the end of primary education

t AIS we aim to provide a curriculum with learning opportunities that recognise and celebrate each child’s individual uniqueness, develop their full potential and prepare them to meet new challenges. The Primary Programme develops English, Mathematics and Science skills in young children. It provides a natural progression through the stages of primary education and focuses on what children should be able to do at each of the primary stages. It is designed to help parents gain a greater understanding of their children’s abilities, and their strengths and weaknesses. This is very important, as it helps teachers to know which areas to focus on for each child. Part of the way teachers assess children’s abilities, is by using Primary Programme Progression Tests, which are marked by the teacher. These tests enable teachers to tell where children are in their learning. All children who complete the Primary Programme receive a Certificate of Achievement at the end of their primary education. The Cambridge International Primary Programme is an excellent framework for learning in the primary years and provides a solid foundation for progression to secondary education, including Cambridge IGCSE .
