International Olympiad Open international Russian language competition for non-Russian speakers "About Russia in Russian" started on February, 25 2011. On the first day of Olympiad poem reciters competition was held, it was attended by 54 students from 14 schools of Moscow. The atmosphere was festive and solemn. In the room, in addition to the judges, there were reporters from a few television channels. All the contestants were skilled. However we are confident that our students performed well. On February 26 there was a competition "Connoisseurs of Russian language." The competition was attended by 84 students from Years 5 to 11 from 17 schools. Results will be announced only on March 17, 2011 in the Kalyagin theatre during the final gala concert. There will also be an awards ceremony for the winners of the Olympics. Ahead we still have three competitions: a singing competition "Across Russia with a song”, a drawing competition "I draw Russia", a photo contest "And I take a walk across Moscow”. The participants' work has already been sent to the jury, who will invite participants to present them on March, 12. The International Olympiad aroused great interest among teachers and children who study Russian as a foreign language. Many of them visited our school for the first time. Organization and the content of the contests were highly appreciated by the participants who left their comments in Atlantic International School.

I will talk about the following topics: - dealing with children's lies - dealing with children using swear words. These are very sensitive issues, and many parents are afraid of asking specialists’ help and advice on "what to do?" on these topics.

“Bad" habits in the preschool years.
When telling lies deserves to be punished, then: - avoid use of physical punishment; - separate punishment for lying (trying to conceal the offense) from punishment for misconduct; - emphasize what consequences can the child’s act have for others; - punishment should be commensurate with the deed; - do not punish your child if he confessed of lying, evaluated his action.
If you want to teach a child to be open and honest, you should be ready to hear from him sometimes bitter truth, not just what you are pleased to know. Your reaction to the feelings expressed by your child helps him to figure out whether honesty is indeed the best policy. The formula of the confidence for parents and children is: "In our relationship with you there is nothing more important than trust. If you do something that I will certainly not like, do not be afraid to tell me about it. You can remind me that I should not get angry. Of course, you can try to hide your deed, but I'll just be proud of you, if you find the courage to tell the truth."

One of the main reasons is fear, distrust to an adult’s reaction. Child is afraid that he would not be heard and will be punished for misbehaviour. Aren’t we sometimes too quick to punish the children?
Excessive control, the desire to know every step, movement of the child, eventually leads to secrecy, stiffness, complex, and lies. Parents need to clearly distinguish between what they need to know about their child, and what they can accept as a manifestation of the independence of the child. You can compile a list of issues that are the most necessary for you to be aware of (for example): - who are your child’s friends and their behavior;

Another reason children lie may be a desire to bolster their self-esteem. Such a morbid desire sometimes also develops in a child due to antipedagogical adults’ behaviour. This leads to child’s embellishment of his own character features and qualities of his loved ones, to the need for wishful thinking. You must listen carefully to such lies and try to find truth in it. But the person you should start with is not your child, first start with yourselves. Think about how honest you are. Parents are the main role model.

What causes a child to lie, where does it come from?

Fantasizing may also lead to the elements of lies. But most of the time fantasizing is beneficial. Fantasy is the basis for imagination development. Imagination is one of the valuable qualities of the individual, it must not be destroyed, but sent in the right direction. Try to fantasize together how you could solve real-life problems!

One of the biggest problems is the white lie that seeks to protect somebody else, to save him from harm. Cheating is not considered a vice, if it replaces the painful truth. The punishment for lying in such cases does not give the desired effect.

The other aspect of excessive control - is the lack of attention, i.e. using a lie, a child with a cry is calling everyone in the house to come because something "terrible" has happened! But, no! In fact, the kid tries to attract attention to himself. And probably the whole situation leads to fear, or insults the child. And you cannot just leave this situation! The problem should be identified and solved, if necessary, go to the psychologist.
