The Silk Pavilion
from The Development and Use of Low Embodied Energy Materials in a Carbon Conscious Construction Sector
In an attempt to illustrate during reviews, tutorials and presentations the innovative thinking behind many low energy materials and processes I decided to draw the evolution of the Silk Pavilion by Neri Oxman which was developed in the MIT Media Lab in America. which were placed on a framework and who, over the space of a number of weeks, spun enough silk to encompass the framework. This shell could then be removed and was hung from the ceiling and acts as an example of a truly sustainable material which fully embraces cradle to cradle thinking.
