1.0 THREE RELATIONSHIPS

1.1 POINT/LINE/PLANE BRIEF SOLIDIFY THE GROUND Design a combination of levels, possibly with some slopes that explore ways of defining ground-related space, by using the progression of point to line to plane, and by analogy, from standing to sitting to lying down.

Iceburg Sculpture Made of Tissue PaperBY Gabby O'Connor

The Cubic Houseslocated in Rotterdam, Netherlands by architect Piet Blom in the 1970s

This is a gorgeous geometric artistic work made by very simple material paper and stables. It shows a woderful visual effect by using trianglular shape to combine these easy elements together What inspired me most in this work is that it is standing in the sky, but it still shows a earth appearance. Also, it is a good example to explain what is point line plane.

1.2 MASS SOLID AND VOID: DARKNESS AND LIGHT: TOUCH AND SEE "When it comes to excavated ground, dreams have no limit" (Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space) BRIEF DRAW A SECTION thru the solid ground with spaces carved out of it, or in it. Include an access space from above the ground, or the ground surface, and design two spaces: one DARK and interesting to touch and feel your way around, and one which uses LIGHT in an interesting way

Concept Of Mass Project: What I want to show in this mass project is the combination of underground, ground surface and above ground. For aesthetic theme, I also try to draw in a more mysterious style . The blue part is a bridge to connect from bottom to top. The layers and levels in the drawings help to understand the relationships of ground surfaces and above grounds.

1.3 FRAME AND INFILL VIEW OF THE SKY, VIEW OF THE HORIZON, VIEW OF THE GROUND "Each wall of each hexagon is furnished with five bookshelves; each bookshelf holds thirty-two books identical in format; each book contains four hundred ten pages; each page, forty lines; each line, approximately eighty black letters." Concept of Frame&Infill The topic of my frame&infill project is transformation. In this project, two architectural language combine together through the way of transformation: frame becomes infill, infill becomes frame. Also, the structure from small to large scale is another key element.

2.0 HERRING ISLAND Herring Island is an artificial island that was formed in 1928 by cutting a new path for the Yarra River through an old basalt quarry, as part of a plan to control flooding of the river. In 1994, Parks Victoria assumed control of the island, and turned it into a wildlife reserve and recreational park. SITE CHOSEN

PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE SITE CONCLUSION The determining Factors of why I chose this site is the proximity to water and triangular shape of this site The topography of this area is an esplanade, and it near the water, this area can help me to finish my design concept which can connect water and ground. The triangular shape also fits my secret project.

CONTOUR MAP The topography of this area is an esplanade and not so many altitude variations

VEGETATION A great deal of vegetation provides a good condition of air and environment. The chosen site is surrounded by many trees, just like a secret hided in the forest.

SUN PATH This area can provide a good light condition, and provide a unique sense from sunrise to sunup.

PATH AND ENTRY The chosen site is not near the path, this provides a silent environment.

FRAME INILL

In frame and infill, my most important design is the way pf transformation: frame becomes infill and infill becomes frame. So I use this in my secret project, transformation existed in below ground and ground surface and above ground.

TECTONIC PROCESS OF HOW FIN

NAL FORM WAS GENERATED:

The design has the elements from the three relationships. It begin to have a below ground.

Related to the environment of the chosen site.

Changing the simple geometric structure and adding some irregular elements in the design of the pavilion.

PRECEDENTS Architects have designed an incredible 65-storey 'earthscraper' which plunges 300 metres below ground. What element inspired me in this architecture is the way it explore below groun Louvre Glass Pyramid by I.M.Pei Mexican 'Earth Scraper' To Plunge 300m Below The Ground

Adding some details like brunch-shaped decorations on glass.

The idea of this project is the beautiful geometric structure and the glass wall brings brightness to below ground.

Refine and design the spaces and structures more detailed

3.2 FINAL DESIGN MODEL

4.O REFLECTION I developed my understanding for the three concepts of architecture during my study. Especially practice had provided me a chance to learn how to be critical to my ideas. Also, using the knowledge that I learnt into exercises let me know how to apply what I learnt into practical life. This is not just for architecture, it can be used for every aspect of my future life.

4.0 REFLECTION

Hand drawings are what I'm familiar with, but I tried to use different way to display my idea.Digital software was one of my weakness before. During my study of the course, I had chances to practice my software skills. I used software to help for model making and this process led me had opportunities to get used to using software. I became familiar to this skill and had some improvement in the end. To further develop my project, I think I should learn the concept part, culture and thinking of one project is really important. Also, to strengthen the ablibity to analysis site or design is one of the essential thing I have to develop, too.
